If you do not have new Jace, run more Ob, or pick up new Jace... he is like $11 a pop which is a pretty good price imo.
Fortunately, I have two on the way - they just hadn't arrived by the time I played. I think I'm going to keep the landsas they are. I need to run some more games to get a better feel for why they are how they are. Alhammaret is going to the side, and at least one more Magosi is going main. Next standard will be next week, as the LGS only drafts this FNM.
This is what I plan to rock on Game Day next week unless this weekends PT shows something different.
Infinite Obliteration in the main seems super sketch. I understand that you will always have a target, but having this against something like WW is going to be rough. For 3 mana and 2 slots, you could do a heck of a lot of things.
Is there a reason you are not running Silumgar's Scorn? That card (and FTI) is probably the reason to be running any more than 2 Dragonlord Silumgar. It lets you play your win conditions fairly aggressively and it can just buy you that critical turn 2 and 3 a lot of the times. If I am being completely honest - having 2 Scatter to the Wind can sometimes suck. 4 Void Shatter is going to come back to haunt you, I am almost certain of it.

I cut Alhammaret and just stuck with my 4 DLS. Card was sometimes super awkward with only 26 mana, even thought it was clutch some of the time. DLS has never really let me down.
Good to know. I think that win cons are close to personal preference - Sphinx or Dragon. I do like the fact that we are all on pretty much the same page for removal and counters though, and I think there's only a few tweaks that will benefit as we continue to play the deck through the meta.
I look forward to hearing how your list goes at States, and the ensuing discussion of what was strong/weak. I'm also hoping that Adrian Sullivan rocks some kind of UB control this weekend as well!
Been doing okay with the deck on MTGO using Kahmahl's list.
Friendly League: 3-2, 4-1, 3-2
Competitive League: 2-3, 3-2
To be honest, most of my losses have been to the deck beating itself not drawing enough lands or my opponent's outtopdecking me after a flurry of discard spells, things that just happen.
The deck is really fun to play.
Thanks for the share man.
I cut a Confirm Suspicions for another Grasp of Darkness and it's been doing well for me.
Yes, and your question is the exact reason why I love to run it - it's unexpected. It's one of the cards from the Welcome Deck 2016 set, which is standard legal as long as SOI is. See bullet number 2 here for the official announcement.
I don't see the appeal of Nagging Thoughts vs Anticipate. You get to see one card less and only occasionally at instant speed. Anticipate is a lot more flexible, and can be used in response to something - imagine the situation where you have plenty of land open, and the opponent flashes in Avacyn. The only card you have in hand is Nagging Thoughts, and no Jace. Wouldn't you rather be able to respond and dig for a counterspell, instead of sit there and likely die very soon? Running it in primarily a madness shell makes it marginally better, but again, to cast it at instant speed you need the reliability of discard triggers. Regardless, Anticipate gives better numbers of card to choose from.
Sinister Concoction is an interesting card that I've also been considering, but with discard and mill, is not just a 2-for-1, but in essence a 3-for-1. I think it may make the list after the next rotation once Price goes out, but for now I like Price and Grasp. Yes, Price only works on mono-coloured, but Grasp picks up what it misses, and is rarely a conditional removal. Finally, I'd like to see your math for how only a couple of Drownysrd Temples make Sinister Concoction "rarely a 2-for-1". Even if one of the cards you pitch or mill is a Temple, the chances of the other being a madness card or another Temple are slim, making this still a 2-for-1...
I'm not much of a standard player but my LGS rotates between Standard and Modern every week so I wanted something to bring on the Standard nights. Here is a list I've been playing around with.
I haven't made up the sideboard yet because I have no idea what my store's meta will look like. I will be including some generic cards though.
2 Infinite Obliteration which can be fetched and cast with Dark Petition.
1 Dragonlord Silumgar to side in against ramp
Some number of Duress, Negate, Dispel, Flaying Tendrils, Languish etc.
The win cons are obviously the walkers, but awakened lands and thopters can get there too if you can control the board. I chose Whirler Rogue because I wanted to keep my opponent's spot removal "turned off". It's also great to follow one up with a walker because you have 3 chump blockers to protect them. I was thinking about putting a Rise from the Tides in the board for surprise zombie hordes but that white exile card is too good against it.
I'm not sold on the Scatter/Clash spread. Clash is great as a 2 mana counter spell when the opponent is playing on curve, but I'm not sure if I want 2. I was thinking about running the exile counterspell for pesky recurring creatures too but that will be a meta call.
I've actually liked Epiphany as a source of card advantage. It's fine to play EOT for 3/4 mana when you aren't countering or killing something, but the fact that it scales from mediocre to massive card advantage the longer the game goes on is appealing.
I haven't played enough games (only been playing on cockatrice) or even know what standard looks like enough to know how well this deck will do, but I'm sure I could get a win or two a night from it. That's a win in my book for a deck that cost about $100 to build. I've been using this thread for some inspiration, so if anyone has any recommendations for my list I'd be glad to hear them! I didn't even know Dark Petition was a card until I heard people buzzing about it from the PT so I'm sure there are some other cards I've missed that are worth playing.
@Kamahl thanks for the inputs regarding my deck. I've updated my deck and patterned it after the Esper Control Walkers that top 8'd the pro tour in terms of being removal-heavy. Can't get rid of the counters though (the draw-go permission style is too much of a habit), and just relegated the Dragonlord to sideboard (it's hard to defend if you're forced to tap out for it, or to play it without counterspells).
I included Rise from the Tides in the main 'coz it's netted me some surprise wins, especially during mid-late game- if the opponent's board is empty and he/she's unable to cast kozi return EOT or languish on his/her turn, the game's basically over on my next turn (due to the sheer number of instants and sorcs in my graveyard, usually able to pump out 10-12 2/2 zombies).
