While everyone is saying that I brough us off topic, I would just like to point out that someone mentioned the MUC matchup, and I noted that splashing helps to fix the MUC matchup. I don't think anyone was ever trying to guess my deck card for card. This patrons within this thread seem to be shunning my voice on this deck, only because I'm not willing to give away something that I've worked so hard to tune. This seems to be quite counter-productive.

Okay, I'm going to go MB VS MB but I wanted to post a SB anyway. With 4 Zealots in MB, 3 Wear Aways in SB should be okay. Fecundity is great against anything with Black or a deck with a lot of removal (AKA red). Defense Grids are also a wonderful peice of tech. I like them a lot. CE for T&N. Nothing new; I just want to reiterate some things. The Thunderstaffs I haven't tested yet but they seem okay in theory. They would nullify beacon tokens (and make yours bigger) and meloku tokens. My only fear is artifact hate and counters.
With all the Jitte's going around I think 2 would be good. A lot of builds I've seen use 3 or 4, which is why I decided to MD 4 x Viridian Zealots. That card is amazing. Well, time to test.
*3rd at Idaho regionals 2011

*Made day 2 in GP Seattle/Tacoma (115th place) 2009.
I'm not going to re-discuss the equipment, so don't bother telling me jitte > sword :p. I've opted to drop Defense Grid off the sideboard entirely, and am considering trying to transition into a Beacon-Blasting station deck game 2 against aggro.
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.

I think overall the sword is better suited for mga. The biggest reason is the simplest: drawing cards. WW loves the jitte because it's cheaper but the cmc doesn't really matter to a deck that generates tons and tons of it. The last reason i think it's better for mga is equiping a bird of paradice compared to equipping a bird with a jitte.
dantheman7777: The thunderstaffs are great on paper, espically with tons of tokens, but i think that engineered explosives might prove to be better in that slot. Also you should have 2 swamps instead of the 1, more of a just in case than anything.
This is a deck I have been running for a month or so now and I am pretty sure it is what I will be running at regionals. It has done well in some of the larger tournaments in my area where almost every archetype is well represented, but tooth, this and MUC seem to be the most popular at the moment.
3 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Kodama's Reach
2 Viridian Zealot
3 Meloku the Clouded Mirror
4 Eternal Witness
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Plow Under
4 Sword of Fire and Ice
3 Iwamori of the Open Fist
3 Troll Ascetic
2 Swamp
2 Island
2 Mountain
1 City of Brass
12 Forest
4 Tendo Ice Bridge
SB: 2 Dosan the Falling Leaf
SB: 2 Splinter
SB: 3 Sowing Salt
SB: 2 Echoing Decay

the deck has gone through a few revisions but this is the most consistent of the lists.

Hats off to [BB18 & IBTG], you've found something that may be THE deck to beat post rotation.
the list I posted is hardly mono green, and the reason I didnt post it on this thread is because most of the decks on here ran beacon of creation as opposed to iwamori. I understand the deck looks vaguely similar but it is played entirely different than beacon green and really does deserve its own thread. Just because they have some of the same cards doesnt mean that the decks are at all similar.

I was wondering where that thread had dissapeared to. I honestly thought it looked rather horrible, but I have not played it so I guess I can't really say for sure. When I looked at it, I was more thinking it belonged in the casual forum, especially since the designer failed to post any testing results, matchup points, tourney reports, etc.
Of course, it isn't 5 color either, but that might've just been a typo or something.
Insofar as critiquing the deck, I truly question your justification for 4 copies of Reach when you only have 3 Trolls. Also, why even bother with Iwa? Would it not be better to go G/B aggro and use Yukora instead? Also, why Zealot over Shaman? Additionally, if it is to protect sofi's, why not run jens?
The final word is this does not really qualify as mono-g aggro, just as the designer so eloquently stated. It does deserve it's very own casual thread though as it mainly appears to be a rather subpar build considering all the different card pool options available.
At first, for regionals, I was going to play Ponza I admit. But after realizing I can never get 4 Chrome and 4 Slogger on the budget I'm on in just 2 monthes or so, I decided I'll be playing another deck.
I looked through new decks and olds, and came across Mono Green Beats. Other than being a fan and noticed it has done well post-bannings, I chose it. Oh... and other than the fact I have about 5 monthes of experience of Green beats (use to play it) while with Ponza I have about... 2 weeks.
I'm still on a budget, but other than 4 BoP I think the deck will be fine. I still have some of it like most the commons/uncommons and 4 fangren firstborn and 1 kodama of the north tree. I sold all 4 of my ascetics... but recently the past few weeks, instead of $6 (USD) for an Troll Ascetic at my store, their now $2. So that saves me plenty of money. Alright, well, here is my build. (Even without BoP, I have played it for 5 monthes and it has shown 4 Sakura-Tribe Elder's and 4 Kodama's Reach test well and are better for Beacon of Creation)
Your build appears to focus on Firstborn and Echoing Courage. While it can instantly win the game, the formula is easily disruptible. I wouldn't recommend using up slots for it.

The 5CG deck is U for Gifts Ungiven & Meloku, Red for Boil, Black for Extract and Terror, and White doesn't exist. Honestly, its worse than this. Gifts is nice, but I would rather play a Beacon.
Also, you guys are way overestimating the MUC matchup. If you can't resolve a Troll, MUC will own you. Sword of Fire Ice helps, but Troll is basically the matchup. its really 50/50 at best.

To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.

Hmmm yeah Firstborn/Courage can be good, but usually a Courage/Beacon always works better and what I prefer.
Well... if its easily disruptible, what kind of build do you suggest? (maybe even a list? :))
I looked at all the builds played in the French regionals... they just werent "for me". While might be good, they all look kinda odd/shabby to me.
I run 2 Isao, Enlightened Bushi and 2 Humble Budoka right now in testing to see how much they help the matchup against MUC. The only problem is them getting my bushi in shackles.
In the MUC matchup, Genju of the Cedars+Viridian Zealot tends to work pretty well. The Zealot can deal damage AND destroy shackles. Usually having one or two on the field is a good way to win a game, not to mention the Genju is a 1st turn 4/4 drop. When they're going to counter everything you play, you might as well be using your mana to swing for 4. Other than that, maybe a boseiju or two md would help. That lets you get those beacons/plows/courages/reaches without any hitches excluding time stop (which most MUC's don't play MD and few even play it sb, from what I've seen), although whether to put them md is a local meta thing. This deck has a crazy good matchup against MUC. Aside from all the stuff that comes out early and is hard, there's just the fact that you play a LOT of threats, which can be difficult to counter. I think my verson has lost a grand total of twice to MUC, and that was just because of some bad hands that I shouldn't have taken. Granted, it's not like playing mono green is an auto win against MUC, but the odds are definitely in mono green's favor.
And, I've found that Isao is not that great in the matchup. It's not really a beatstick, and gets shackled too easily to be effective. I'd go with Zealot.
Aside from that, Okina is useless in any deck that only has a Kodama of the North as far as legends go, because it can't be targeted. And, it serves as a drawback because molten rain would hurt you.
Well, I'm back with testing. I played 6 rounds (3 with my build and 3 with HKKID's build) and here are my results (all games were without sideboards):
My build (2-1):
Round 1 (2-1):
Game 1: The sims costed too much to play. They always got countered. Zealots and Trolls won the game.
Game 2: Counters were flying everywhere. The only creature I got down I think was a bird.
Game 3: An early Jitte won the game.
Round 2 (0-2):
Game 1: Mana screwed.
Game 2: By the end of the game there were 7 counters in the graveyard and 1 Time stop RFG. Shackles prevented me from playing anything else.
Round 3 (2-1):
Game 1: Too many lands. Didn't draw into anything that would help.
Game 2: Early beats combined with an early Jitte made this game quick.
Game 3: Resolved 2 x plow unders. Yeah, I won that one.
HKKID's build (1-2) with Sims:
Round 1 (1-2):
Game 1: My oponent got mana screwed. Easy win.
Game 2: Shackles won this one.
Game 3: This was an interesting game. The sim and was countered but the Sword of L&S resolved. However, I couldn't damage my opponent because of this stupid Meluko tokens. If the sword were a Jitte then I think I would have won this game.
Round 2 (2-1):
Game 1: Two beacons in a row with no echoing truths. I like these games.
Game 2: Shackles secured the game and Magpie beatdown x 3 kept his hand full and my life low.
Game 3: A combo of Beacon beats and Troll won me this game.
Round 3 (1-2):
Game 1: Another game of early counters and shackles.
Game 2: Beacon and Troll beats, again, won this game. The Sword of L&S was countered by a mana leak. If it were a Jitte then it would have resolved.
Game 3: Meluko stompted my @$$. 'Nuff said.
Oh, I almost forgot, the MUC build I was playing against is such:
That build is from the MUC thread. It's based on Wolfwood's builds but I put a few twists on it. I know that it has A TON of counters but I'd thought it's be good to play against anyway. The shoals are surprisingly good against MGB. You pitch a thoughtbind or something to counter a 2 turn troll or sword. Peer Through Depths is also an insane card. With the amount of counters in this deck, a Peer pretty much says: 1U: get one of you counterspells from your deck.
Okay, I'd also like to say a few other things. First, I still think that Jitte is awesome. I'm going to continue using them in my deck because it's really the only way to remove a Meluko and his (her?) tokens once they hit the board.
The sims may be good against other decks but not MUC. They cost more than Wood Elves and MUC can't really kill them so you don't get that extra card when it dies. I'd leave them out.
Well, that's it for now. I just read the post above me and I was thinking of trying Genju of the Cedars VS MUC. Has anyone tested them? It seems good.

The 5CG deck is U for Gifts Ungiven & Meloku, Red for Boil, Black for Extract and Terror, and White doesn't exist.
Playing gifts wastes too many slots. Red can also be useful, if you need it, to splash Sowing Salts. Black also lets you run persecute, if you choose it as your heavy splash color. White leads to a plethora of card choces from CoP: Red, to Worship, to Steelshapers gift.
Well, we should get back on topic, seriously... we don't need to talk about half of this.
I played this in my local turny yesterday, and i got top 4... it was kindda lame. I shoulda beat ponza but i drew 4 land in a row =/ and then 2 useless cards at the time. I also lost to a BG meta-game'd deck... and only reason i lost here was i had 40 cards left and i had 21 diff cards to draw within 4/5 turns and i never drew a single one....
Saltheart, believe it or not this is a competitive deck and it has made placings in carious regionals and other tournaments. It is proven and it is fact, it HAS a place in the current metagame of T2. *Reports for spam*
I'm trying to explore some new possibilities if we're going the wrong way with all the equipment in the deck. I've found that there is quite an abundance of artifact hate around where I play, so I'm trying to consider alternate possibilities. I'm thinking about making the deck use more Kodama's Reaches and land search to power a rude awakening more well. An added bonus is the thinning of the deck, which can lead to more critical draws. I'm not sure yet.
It's just that we use 7 slots for equipment, and while the equipment is AMAZING, I'm wondering if there are other alternatives that we haven't considered perhaps (Sylvan Scrying + Boseju?). Anybody have any innovative ideas that they are considering for "teching up" their Mono-G?
I don't see why Boseiju would be included...Our MUC matchup already is pretty good, simply because we have too many business spells to handle...Plus, it disrupts tempo too much for the little benefit of making a beacon uncounterable. I agree, if you want to go mass fetch and rude, then Boeseiju is a must, but I really don't want to play vs. anything Black. I just think Ride is too fragile to base a deck on, and that Equip is the way to go.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
I play in the New England area and for the most part we have a VERY and I strongly reiterate VERY good players here. To say a deck looks "horrible" when I have multiple wins in 30+ player tournaments with it, well I guess I would have to disagree with your summation.
Originally we called the dec U/G craziness but since we starting running explosives in the board and we actually starting using the 5-colors we just called it 5 color Iwamori due to pure laziness.
I would rather have Iwamori for multiple reasons. He is a 5/5 trampler turn 3. When equipped with sword he runs over every guy that your opponent can play. Really the only guy you dont want to see come down is kokusho, and iwamori should be boarded out in that matchup. If they play a meloku, Iwamori still stomps through and after he gets a sword no illusion is throwing him off his game.
Zealot over shaman because zealot can blow up enchantments... durf... I hear being able to blow up glorious anthem and ghostly prisons's in addition to all the things shaman can hit is a good thing. I also see alot of MUC and really zealot is by far more optimal in that matchup.
I ran the fourth reach to optimize the top, without it I would only have 7 shuffle effects and really I find 8 better as far as consistently being able to shuffle my library, not to mention people play mana leak alot around here and being able to completely nullify conditional counters, again is a good thing.
Also, why Zealot over Shaman? Additionally, if it is to protect sofi's, why not run jens?
how does running either shaman or zealot protect my swords? not sure how jens acheives that either. jens is slow, theres no arguing that point, and because I dont see alot of tooth and nail I decided to go with reach 4x instead of him, as by running zealot I have a guy that can pick up the sword in addition to blowing something up.
Not to pick on you but I really dislike when people make comments such as the following;
Would it not be better to go G/B aggro and use Yukora instead?
I suppose it might even be better to drop the forests all together and play force of will...
as a side note, even if I was playing BG aggro I would still run iwamori over yukora.
I appreciate the 2 minutes you took to look over the list and proove to me that you dont quite understand the premise of competitive magic. you say so in your first paragraph;
I honestly thought it looked rather horrible, but I have not played it
regardless of the letters following that statement, I tend to disregard the comments that person makes, and I hope I get paired with them in a round to come, but odds are I wont, there days seem to always go 0-2 drop and well I see tables with only 1 digit.

Sim coms VS Reach VS Wood Elves: An interesting debate. I'm going to test out Sims Coms (probably x4) VS MUC today.
Here's the build I'm using (my own making):
Lands (22):
Forest x 21
Swamp x 1
Creatures (22):
4 x Troll Ascetic
4 x Eternal Witness
2 x Wood Elves (Replaced by Sims x 2)
4 x Viridian Zealot
4 x Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 x Birds of Paradise
Artifacts (6):
4 x Sword of Fire and Ice
2 x Umezawa's Jitte
Others (10):
4 x Plow Under
4 x Beacon of Creation
2 x Kodama's Reach (Replaced by Sims x 2)
Sideboard (15):
3 x Cranial Extraction
3 x Defense Grid
3 x Fecundity
3 x Wear Away
3 x Thunderstaff?
Standard: Valakut (soon to change)
Cool things about me:
*3rd at Idaho regionals 2011
*1st at Salt Lake City regionals 2007
*2006 Idaho state champion of Two-Headed-Giant
*3rd place in Idaho State champs in 2009
*Made day 2 in GP Seattle/Tacoma (115th place) 2009.
1 Swamp
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Sakura Tribe Elder
4 Wood Elves
2 Kodamas Reach
3 Virdian Zealot
3 Eternal Witness
4 Plow Under
4 Beacon of Creation
3 Sword of Light and Shadows
I'm not going to re-discuss the equipment, so don't bother telling me jitte > sword :p. I've opted to drop Defense Grid off the sideboard entirely, and am considering trying to transition into a Beacon-Blasting station deck game 2 against aggro.
Mafia Stats
I think overall the sword is better suited for mga. The biggest reason is the simplest: drawing cards. WW loves the jitte because it's cheaper but the cmc doesn't really matter to a deck that generates tons and tons of it. The last reason i think it's better for mga is equiping a bird of paradice compared to equipping a bird with a jitte.
dantheman7777: The thunderstaffs are great on paper, espically with tons of tokens, but i think that engineered explosives might prove to be better in that slot. Also you should have 2 swamps instead of the 1, more of a just in case than anything.
The bullet of justice caps evil's a$$.
3 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Kodama's Reach
2 Viridian Zealot
3 Meloku the Clouded Mirror
4 Eternal Witness
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Plow Under
4 Sword of Fire and Ice
3 Iwamori of the Open Fist
3 Troll Ascetic
2 Swamp
2 Island
2 Mountain
1 City of Brass
12 Forest
4 Tendo Ice Bridge
SB: 2 Dosan the Falling Leaf
SB: 2 Splinter
SB: 3 Sowing Salt
SB: 2 Echoing Decay
SB: 3 Terror
SB: 3 Engineered Explosives
the deck has gone through a few revisions but this is the most consistent of the lists.

1 Okina
19 Forest
//Creatures
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Troll Ascetic
4 Fangren Firstborn
3 Eternal Witness
3 Kodama of the North Tree
2 Karstoderm
4 Beacon of Creation
4 Echoing Courage
4 Plow Under
4 Kodama's Reach
2 Sword of Fire and Ice
2 Genju of the Cedars
Or....
1 Okina
1 Island
20 Forest
//Creatures
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Troll Ascetic
4 Fangren Firstborn
3 Eternal Witness
3 Kodama of the North Tree
2 Meloku
4 Beacon of Creation
4 Plow Under
4 Echoing Courage
4 Kodama's Reach
2 Genju of the Cedars
Any/all help is appreciated and Thank You in advance.

Random quote of the last time I updated my sig:
"...FOMG THE SCROLL LOCK KEY DOES SOMETHING "
Also, you guys are way overestimating the MUC matchup. If you can't resolve a Troll, MUC will own you. Sword of Fire Ice helps, but Troll is basically the matchup. its really 50/50 at best.

Lands (25):
21 x Islands
4 x Stalking Stones
Creatures (4):
3 x Thieving Magpie
1 x Meloku the Clouded Mirror
Artifacts (4):
4 x Vedalken Shackles
Counters (17):
4 x Hinder
4 x Thoughtbind
4 x Mana Leak
3 x Disrupting Shoal
2 x Condescend
Others (10):
2 x Time Stop
1 x Bribery
4 x Peer Through Depths
3 x Echoing Truth

Playing gifts wastes too many slots. Red can also be useful, if you need it, to splash Sowing Salts. Black also lets you run persecute, if you choose it as your heavy splash color. White leads to a plethora of card choces from CoP: Red, to Worship, to Steelshapers gift.
I ran the fourth reach to optimize the top, without it I would only have 7 shuffle effects and really I find 8 better as far as consistently being able to shuffle my library, not to mention people play mana leak alot around here and being able to completely nullify conditional counters, again is a good thing.
how does running either shaman or zealot protect my swords? not sure how jens acheives that either. jens is slow, theres no arguing that point, and because I dont see alot of tooth and nail I decided to go with reach 4x instead of him, as by running zealot I have a guy that can pick up the sword in addition to blowing something up.
Not to pick on you but I really dislike when people make comments such as the following;
I suppose it might even be better to drop the forests all together and play force of will...
as a side note, even if I was playing BG aggro I would still run iwamori over yukora.
I appreciate the 2 minutes you took to look over the list and proove to me that you dont quite understand the premise of competitive magic. you say so in your first paragraph; regardless of the letters following that statement, I tend to disregard the comments that person makes, and I hope I get paired with them in a round to come, but odds are I wont, there days seem to always go 0-2 drop and well I see tables with only 1 digit.
