One thing I am wondering about, and forgive my noobishness for asking, is what makes Resto so great on turn 3-4? what are we targeting that early to take advantage of ETB mechanics? or is it in anticipation of supreme verdict? My preference after a t2 smiter would be silverblade and rancor on the smiter.
Passing turn 3 with untapped lands and a dork is a great strategic play. When your opponent swings, assign blockers and then flash in Angel to reset one of those blockers, then assign Angel herself as a blocker. I've seen many aggro decks overextend and over commit to the combat phase not anticipating or forgetting about her. When the combat resolves, usually you have a full board while your opponent lost a creature or two failing to get any damage through.
Oh yeah, and now they pass turn and you swing over their head with an Angel that essentially by-passed summoning sickness.
Blade Splicer and Huntmaster aren't the only reasons to play her, although those were some good times..
Do not cut rancor yet. I think many of us are forgetting just how useful this card is. It makes dorks swing for 3 in the lategame. It pushes Silverblade Paladin over the edge. It turns Thragtusk into a 7/3 trampler and a 3 turn clock. And lets not forget its synergy with senslaya charm alowing us to exile smaller than 5 power creatures. I have cut mine down to 3 but would never cut them all together. Oh and they net you mad advantage with Garruk Primal hunter aswell either through repeatable 5/3 tramplers or by netting you 2 more cards through his minus 3.
I like Relentless, like alot, but Now that primal hunter produces a net of 5 cards on average if i just -3 him from the start. if there was a sorcery that read 2ggg draw 5 cards. would you play it in a deck with a high threat density like ours? absolutely!
I dont see too many guys we cant handle under 5 power since our creatures outclass most threats we may encounter. If we have an issue with someone however, i think we've got a good answer in ulvenwald tracker in fact he'd make a fine answer to the mirror match by being able to body check the entire board. Revenge of the hunted is another really solid option.
Also, as a finisher, do we consider Entreat with angels? We generate enough mana to put up a good lethal wave miracled or not. I have yet to test it but would like to.
Vs control i think we really need angel of serenity. Board sweepers suck, period. garruk can help though. but angel of serenity punishes control if they answer her and refills your hand even if they exlie, charm, or sweep her. just target the biggest threats from your graveyard and watch the fun begin! two gives us the ability to loop. 7 is not hard to hit between a fat manabase and dorks+Farseek.
And to those not running farseek... DO IT!! your arbor elves will thank you. and on the games you cant drop turn 2 Loxodon smiter you can drop turn 3 Sigarda/Garruk/Silverheart/Thragtusk then turn 4 Armada wurm and so on. with farseek md you can hit a turn 3 armada wurm with 2 dorks and a farseek. Also farseek helps with the jund matchup that preys on your mana dorks.. let em waste their removal early. ramp anyways and deliver the hammer.

IC, I didnt see her mechanics applied to blockers. That sounds great actually. I am looking at ways of trimming the cost of this deck down so was thinking of playing cloudshift instead of her. But I did find that the flying body was difficult to replace. I guess Ajani could help there.

It doesn't work quite like that I don't believe. You have to flash her in, then assign blockers, or assign blockers and flash her in to reset one of the blockers. Still a very powerful play, but not that powerful.

I agree on that point it's almost a Harmonize but for one more and you can produce 3/3 bodies. I am going to run no less than 3 Rancors so I like your point about the recurring 5/3 trample threat.
After posting in a few other forums, this is the list that i've settled upon. It's almost G/W Midrange toolbox, but it abuses the hell out of ETB effects. Ill run through my choice @ the end.
Every creature in the deck Bar Sigarda can be abused by Resto Angel or Cloudshift. Centaur healer has been much more reliable in testing in slowing down aggro than Loxodon Smiter. My Smiter's were getting Dreadbore'd or Decay'ed so much that the +3 life was way more meaningful short term. It also meant that Resto Angel had something meaningful to interact with besides elvish visionary if the heat was on. The healers also mean that you can run 3 Thragtusks and feel very comfortable vs. Aggro ealry, and not be so 'on the ropes' when Thrag enters to stablise.
Selesnya Charm's 2/2 instant speed dork was Very useful as well. I overlooked this part of the card at first, but when you don't have a turn 3 play against aggro (a lot), this effect reset the board on a number of occasions.
Rancor & Call of the conclave have tested really poorly. Selesnya Charm ended up doing a lot of the lifting that Rancor used to, and without a populate mechanic CoTC was worse than the charm @ sorcery speed. Still great value, but other cards were more valuable in other slots.
This is the best build i've had so far, and i've tested many variations. I'm tossing up between this and Bant control; that has been house for me as well.
Can this deck survive post RTR control decks? (Primarily BR Control, Rakdos, etc)
Yes. In fact, the current version which is very similar has done exceedingly well in competitive play. That's against a fully matured format where Delver control shells are dominant. Control gets weaker post rotation. We get stronger.
It doesn't work quite like that I don't believe. You have to flash her in, then assign blockers, or assign blockers and flash her in to reset one of the blockers. Still a very powerful play, but not that powerful.
It's true!
Declare a block, flash it into play, keep your blocker alive, flash it in as a blocker herself.
My wording of "reset one of your blockers" is misleading though. You can only block once with the flicker target. Does that clear it up?
And wouldnt Nightshade Peddler and Silverblade Paladin bond nicely? nothing like a pair of first strike deathtouch creatures for 5 mana, they demand removal.

Doesn't quite work that way, you can either blink a blocking creature or block with the angel herself. All blockers a declared at once, so if the angels isn't in play once you declare blockers the first time, she won't be eligible to block.

Math also states that even in a situation where your cards can't win your opponent still has a miniscule chance of having a heart attack, stroke, nervous breakdown, or being hit by lighting. Therefore giving you the win by default.
And wouldnt Nightshade Peddler and Silverblade Paladin bond nicely? nothing like a pair of first strike deathtouch creatures for 5 mana, they demand removal.
Paladin and Smiter kill him fine.
Even a 2/2 dork token from Selesnya Charm is sufficient.
Although I do like the surprise factor of Viper and have considered running it in the past. Feels too defensive though for my taste.

4 mana left open looks like an angel bluff in the case of Yeva enough to make them reconsider thier attack. And at three you could mislead them with the Avenger. Come to think about it, wolfir is looking a little better in the new format. can chump gost all day. Being able to regen might be a good way to take out enemy silverblades too.

I'm more of a fan of the token from Selesnya or Restoration Angel because a decent Bant player would only attack with GoST if they thought they could get through to you and if you have GW mana open then you can flash in a blocker and kill GoST (even if you take the angel's damage).
I'm also running 4 Selesnya Charm's regardless to deal with buffed up Falkenrath Aristocrats, Buffed/Scavenged Zombies/Lolteth Troll, Buffed Huntmaster of the Fells, etc.
Wolfir Avenger as a flash blocker is an interesting prospect.
He's hard pressed to compete with Paladin or Smiter for a three spot for me, especially since I also run Champion, Ajani, and O-Ring. This is the spot I thought would be impossible to fill with the loss of Splicer and Crusader. Turns out to be pretty crowded.
What's more is that his double green is a concern. Paladin, Ajani, and Sublime are all hungry for double white, and Pilgrim only taps for white.
I think he's a strong consideration in a build that is shifted towards green though. Perhaps he's a good fit in a more aggro Strangleroot version where curving out with double white Paladin is a concern.
Since I am helbent on playing the Paladin and thus leaning towards more white sources than green I am less inclined to play 2xG casting cost on earlier creatures. I like the flashing in of surprise blockers to take out creatures though, which is why I am thinking of ambush viper. not sure how often I will have open mana though... more testing is needed. i guess the 2/2 knight from the charm is also an option for GoST.
This is what I'm going to run as soon as I get my fourth Sublime. Might even go bant or naya actually but not certain yet. Depends on how much (if any) RtR I get. Thinking Bant to copy my bombs with Clones.
Here's what I'm running the last week before rotation:

Been testing on cockatrice and i have to say, Angel of Serenity is aaaaamazing. My deck focus will now be about ramping to her, she is just too good. Exiles 3 of their dudes, and when she dies they go back to their hand? It is just insane, won too many games from her. I'm not sure if I should play Bant Control or stick with straight GW. There's just so many ways to get to big mana safely (Centaur Healer, Thragtusk, Etc) in the current format that I'm starting to think that ramp strategies may be best......
Here's my latest build with a slight U splash. My build has only had a few issues, Silverblade paladin was awesome sometimes, and was eating everybit of removal in the book. i started looking into 4cc solutions and found one that actually comboed extreemely well with the rest of the deck and dealt with the problem creatures i was encountering.
Any thoughts on Rogue's Passage? I think that fatty heavy versions of the deck could use a way to push damage through without being chump blocked for days.
Any thoughts on Rogue's Passage? I think that fatty heavy versions of the deck could use a way to push damage through without being chump blocked for days.
I just became aware of this card and I like it! seems like just the thing to finish the game.
Here's the deck I'm testing. I've looked around and it's the only GW(u) deck I've seen that relies on heavy token making, shunning Restoration Angel for 4x Rootborn Defenses.
Strong creature control: Garruk Relentless to snipe small and key creatures, Selesnya Charm to kill large creatures, Rancor to run over everything else. Also, you get to do crazy stuff like cast Rancor on your OPPONENT'S 3/3, then killing it with Selesyna Charm.
I have a wg tokens list too, but i dont think this is the place for me to post it. I will say this though; rancor + sundering growth is a pretty sick combat trick i just discovered. Run 4 sundering growth for their orings and detention spheres, but also to populate by targeting your own rancor with it. Because rancor is returned to you hand, its beautiful
