That's my approach. I notice that so many people are playing 4 Secure the Wastes. Is it that good? Some people say you can't have too many Secure the Wastes, but I had some moments where I had two in my hand and wished for one of them to be an actual removal. And 2 Secure the Wastes should be enough to activate Westvale Abbey when it's time for it. I'd love to concentrate on some early removal. Stasis Snare is the best removal, in my opinion, so I play the full set of that.
With old sorin rotating out I feel that secure got worse, but even still it's great with gideon and now Abbey so i wouldn't play any less than 3. I've playtested with hangarback as well and thought it was a bit too slow.
Hey Guys, long time lurker. First time posting. I'm considering running this for standard season (I skipped OGW and BFZ, was too meh to me) and I'd like to add to the convo. You guys are awesome with analysis and strategy.
Comments:
Call the Bloodline + Secure may not be as good when Sorin rotates but the lifelink on the token plus the buildup to Alley is a +.
May add some life gain to the sideboard and put some more catch alls in the main deck. Right now sideboard is just a testing ground for different versions of cards already in the main deck. I like the instant speed effects but recognize the sorcery removal (declaration in stone, angelic purge) is not to bad as well.
May run hard draw as opposed to reaping my own tokens, haven't fully tested the difference as of yet.
I'd say cut your conditional removal creatures for straight unconditional removal such as ultimate price or stasis snare. We don't really benefit from playing creatures as removal, as we aren't an aggro deck. I like relentless dead, but not in a deck like this as the card is better in an aggro/midrange deck where you can gain value off stuff like nantuko husk and fleshbag marauder. I'd also say that altar's reap is objectively worse than read the bones in almost any situation.
