Rending volley - Hits uw heroic, hits some gw manifest though they can counter with temur sabertooth, Can hit some control creatures and is uncounterable against control
self inflicted wound - hits devotion decks though sacing a hornet queen token or later game mana dork or turning a useless creature face up is not ideal. hits some gr midrange could throw off the tempo hitting a mana dork early. Overall id rather play ultimate price
So overall i see Display of Dominance, rending volley and encase in ice being more playable than the other 2. i think all could be decent sb cards definatley all designed to be sb cards.
Curious how other people feel about the cards and if i missed anything id love to hear about what i missed bc i would like to know if i missed any deck match ups where these could be used though if i see a color i can probably figure out if it makes sense.
Self-inflicted Wound seems like a decent answer to Fleecemane Lion and hits most of the creatures Abzan aggro/midrange play. If I were playing an aggressive deck running black, I'd consider this a clean answer to a Deathdealer or Rhino as well.
Display of Dominance doesn't hit enough targets to be playable.
It doesn't hit a lot but display can effectively counter removal so if you need to keep something alive it might be worthwhile. Self inflicted wound could definItely be good against abzan
I was just about to say I think Encase in Ice looks the best. At worst, you tapped down a creature for a turn and 1 for 1'd their removal in possibly the two most relevant creature colors right now. It hits Stormbreath before he attacks sometimes too? Sign me up, sounds like a solid aggro 'removal' spell.
Self-Inflicted Wound seems okay, it hits Abzan Aggro's two drops early, but bad against token decks. Can be great against heroic.
Rending Volley is great but it misses the Rhino test and Roast seems like the better Go-To red midrange removal spell. We'll see on this one later.
I like Rending Volley, but the fact that it doesn't hit Rhino means I don't think I'll be playing it and I haven't seen it in any sideboards either. I'm still on the fence about it though, but at the moment I feel like there are just better sideboard cards.
I actually really like Surge of Righteousness. It does hit Siege Rhino, it stems some of the bleeding caused by Rhino's ETB effect, it's a decent tempo swing against aggressive red strategies for a really low cost. Missing Stormbreath Dragon kind of sucks, but then again that's just something you have to keep in mind when running white removal.
Encase in Ice looks good against Stormbreath, and red is the colour I'd expect to be least equipped to deal with enchantments unless they're running RG or Jeskai, but I kind of feel like that's the only case where it's good so it might not be worth running.

encase in ice - hits midrange, taps down a hornet's nest, tap down red sligh, tap down devotion though again countered by temur sabertooth
self inflicted wound - hits devotion decks though sacing a hornet queen token or later game mana dork or turning a useless creature face up is not ideal. hits some gr midrange could throw off the tempo hitting a mana dork early. Overall id rather play ultimate price
Surge of righteousness - kills red sligh, goblin rabblemaster though it could take a while to set up, kills thunderbreak regent taking 1 damage instead of 3 but can't kill stormbreath dragon.
