Just played a 5-3-2-2 tourney in mtgo with the deck i posted above. Came in 2nd. First round was vs mono red aggro, I got mana flooded first game ( i kept a 6 lander because i did not know what my opponent's deck was). Games 2 and 3 were easy with all the sorrows and blights. Game 2 was an interesting jeskai midrange-aggro-control-don't know what to call it. It looked like ben stark's list from GP memphis, that has both aggression with rabble, seeker topping out at sarkhan, but also a long game with grandmaster and the red siege. The only difference is he had a couple disdainful strokes and stubborn denials. The final was vs the mirror. He had PLA, Ugin and Ashiok G1, which is not expected (typically lists are PLA or Ashiok, not both) and that caught me off guard. I lost G1 to mana screw (yup, even with 28 lands!) and game 2 i think he outplayed me. It did not seem like my deck was more or less powerfull than his, it simply felt he played better. Definitely liked the green splash but, most importantly, i did not miss the dissolves. NOt having them game 1 was a handicap in the mirror, but since the mirror is not as popular as other strategies, all in all i was happy with the experiment.
I think not having access to dissolves also really hurts vs any sort of burn deck and/or RW. Countering a late-game Siege can be crucial.
I don't think this is true. I know it isn't in my case, but I think having both is fairly common.
I've been having quite a bit of luck lately with my current build of UB.
I've never been a huge fan of interpret the signs; however, I'm going back to testing it. Against the new breed of Abzhan control decks it always comes down to card advantage. I'm finding that Jace's Ingenuity is simply not enough card draw to put me over the top.

I never got off of the Interpret the Signs plan. It's a high variance card, but when you hit for 5+, it's just stellar. Just wait until the coast is relatively clear before casting it, and you should be fine.

Yea. I got off the interpret the signs plan from the very beginning. I never felt good about tapping out for it due to the variance. My version of UB is practically identical to the GP winner a few weeks ago except I run -2 strokes, +1 Vault, +1 Crux main.
That being said... in current Gauntlet testing on MTGO x3 Jace's Ingenuity just doesn't cut it vs the Abzhan mid-range decks running the black "scry then draw 2" card.
I've lost too many games vs abzhan in the last few days due to not having an efficient way to refill my hand. The vast majority of the time had I been able to cast signs instead, I would have been much better off.

Edit:
vs Divination: Same mana with black instead of blue but life loss happens, digs deeper by 2 cards unless you keep both on top.
vs Jace's: Costs less and less color dependent. still digs deeper unless you keep both on top in which case it'll give you less cards, sorcery instead of instant which was discussed a few pages back.
I wouldn't run a play set by any means because of the life loss. Probably run it over divination, though. Split between Bones and Ingenuity.
I haven't had much trouble vs the abzan control matchup. We just seem to dominate other control decks.
Running out of steam is an issue, and if I don't draw an ingenuity or dig before my hand runs to 0 obviously I lose, but my general rule is to counter their card draw. Thoughtseize is extremely painful, I pray they don't take multiple draw spells and instead take threats. I find I don't need the extra fat when considering our weaknesses regarding fast aggressive decks. Maybe I should consider it, but my 75 are so tight, it is hard find something to cut.
Agreed that siege can be crucial for red dks, but between 4 denials and 3 negates that's 7 counterspells for it. Plus, the green splash gives me access to 2x sultai charm, which is a cheaper answer than ugin should the siege be resolved. All in all, 7 mana answers and 2 3 mana answers to their crucial 4 mana spell is pretty good I feel. Against burn, dissolving a 2 or 1 mana burn spell (strike/slash/ magma jet/etc) can really strain your mana. Dissolve is obviously a great card in lots of mathcups and a 3 or 4 of in the 75 is a no brainer, but at this point in the meta, having a slightly lower curve in the opening 60 could be a benefit.

Thoughtseize is the reason I'm considering adding signs back into the deck. Getting hit by multiple thoughtseizes is crippling and sometimes Jace's Ingenuity is simply not enough to get back into the game.
Additionally most Abzhan lists have begun to play x4 thoughtseize in the main again.
New-ish to the archetype as it exists now. I've played UB control decks in the past. I'm just curious what Tasigur is coming in against out of the board. I've read of people bringing them in against Abzan Midrange, but that just feels wrong to me. Yes, he can be a cheap threat. Yes, they are siding out some number of removal spells. However, they are most certainly not siding out Abzan Charms or their Hero's Downfalls. So what you end up accomplishing is depleting your graveyard and delaying your Dig through time.
I'm playing in the Super IQ in Crestwood, MO this weekend and battling with UB. I'm currently running the 75 that won in Seville a couple weeks ago. Most of his SB cards were pretty straight forward. Thoughtseize is for the mirror. Extra removal and sweepers for aggro matchups. The Tasigurs threw me. I can't think of a matchup that I want Tasigur in. I am wondering if I would be better off playing a Silumgar and an extra counter in those two slots over 2 Tasigur.
I honestly would like any input that can be provided. And I will provide a tournament report likely going up Monday night.

If your opponent is using his Abzhan Charms and/or Heros' downfalls and Tasigure, you're winning.
The reason Tasigur is so good is not just the body but rather the card advantage he generates. His ability reads 2UU: draw a card post sideboard.
I wasn't a fan of Tasigur, but after seeing him late game I've changed my mind. Even if they cast removal on him, often times it isn't the first turn he comes down and you can cast his activated a few times on the stack before he goes.
You can delve out all the irrelevant stuff and really make the opponents decisions hard. I have no idea when to side him in though =P

Yeah, I've been running 2 copies from the start, maindeck. I recently swapped them with sideboard Ashioks, and now I basically bring it in most every matchup. Of course, I'm only running 2 Crux and no Vaults, so YMMV.

Abzan Midrange, Jeskai Tempo, and Mirror match (according to Huey).

I think you also bring in vs boss sleigh. Especially because against that deck you can easily cast him as a big blocker by turn 4.
I don't think so. For me, Ugin is mainly a sweeper that sometimes acts as a win con. Same for tasigur: it is a 5-mana card drawer that gains life. It so happens to also be a finisher when the opponent is under control. So, bottom line, you only described 4 "pure" win cons (2 Ashiok, 1 PLA and 1 Silumgar). I think this is fine, specially because PLA is great in the mirror and Silumgar is awesome vs tokens.

I feel like the Jorubai Murk Lurkers do a fine job at blocking against Boss Sligh.
but it can change, im happy with the main deck right now, its won me two FNM's in a row, but im going to an IQ tomorrow, ive played against R/W decks before but am not sure what to side in against them and wht to side out. Its hard to determine whats really good against them and whats not, I usually swap pearl lake for silumgar, and I bring in the drowns and murderous cut for stormbreath(swapping for a downfall). But what are you strategies against them? I used to bring in more crux, but people would tell me that's bad, does the vault come out? Sometimes I swap two dissolve with two negates, ive never brought in thoughtseize but some people tell me to bring in two. This is by far my most uncertain matchup.
You board out everything over 5cmc? Even DTT and ingenuity? That seems crazy, hows that been working for you?
nd the R/W I was referring to was more the seeker into rabblemaster into outpost/stormbreth version. That's where im unsure of what to board.
By playing only 1 Perilous Vault, you really need to keep Outpost Siege/Mastery of the Unseen from resolving. I like the Negates, Drowns (even though they'll board out a lot of things that get hit by this, I think it's still necessary), and Silumgars, maybe some number of Thoughtseize.
This is the deck I've been playing for the past few weeks and I haven't finished less than 3-1 since using it (about 6-7 Standard Events overall). The deck seems to perform consistently and that's really all I ask of for a control deck. Ashiok has always been good regardless of the match-up. I used to be against using her at all, instead opting for 2 Pearl Lake Ancients mainboard but she does a fantastic job of eating damage, removal, and, if left unchecked, winning the game. I wouldn't even consider running less than 4.
My worst match-up seems to be the common G/R aggro, Green Devotion decks that draw Whisperwood Elemental every turn, and the typical Temur builds. Even still, those match-ups don't feel unwinnable. I'd say I'm as high as 40/60 against them. Temur is probably 30/70 but I don't play it that often and Neutralizing Blast helps more than you could imagine.
R/W is a mostly easy matchup and I usually only ever worry about the direct burn that the people at my shop are siding in. Outpost Siege is annoying but manageable as long as I hold up a counter for it and Mastery of the Unseen, which is a card I'm seeing in more and more sideboards against control, has been a complete non-issue. I did try dropping the Dismal Backwaters for Opulent Palaces today and sideboarded 2 Sultai Charm to deal with Grindclock and Outpost Siege but I'm not sure if I like it all that much. It was always a relevant card but the lifegain from the gainlands against red decks (which make up a huge chunk of my meta) isn't irrelevant. I can't tell you how often I was at 4 life, clinging to a Negate for my life.
I realize that's only eleven cards, but that's because I literally couldn't tell you what was else was in my sideboard, it felt useless all night. I hit a bunch of R/W/x mathups last night, and they were all super easy. Most of the field was jeskai/R/W/X, and I had a perfect record going into top eight...which consisted of one mardu deck, two abzan decks, one sultai control and four U/B control, I had a "fair" U/B mirror, one mardu mathup and then an abzan control mathup in the finals. One of the U/B players was playing mainddeck grindclocks, which I literally cannot beat, so thank god I bypassed him. If I was going to make changes to my list, probably find more room for one more vault somewhere, another PLA in the sideboard, a gridclock or two in the side, and just figure out a more usefull sideboard configuration period. I hardly ever used my SB, mostly just using it for musical won cons.
I'm running one copy of Empty the Pits SB and it's for sure my best finisher against midrange/control decks and the mirror, since my opponents generally sideout End Hostilities, Crux and Bile Blight. I know it's a dead card in starting hand, as are PLA and Ugin, but I almost never cast it for less than 5 zombies, and its clock is faster than PLA's.
I'm using just one Jorubai SB and feeling it's unnecessary (used to use 3). Even against the aggro matchups, Drown in Sorrow, Bile Blight and Pharika's Cure are enought to keep me alive.
As Garazu pointed, GR and Temur are the matchups I feel the worst, especially Temur. They can put early pressure and keep mana open to deal with our removal. Any suggestion on sideboard against them?
