Anyone think there will be any competitive archetypes where he will still shine, with rabble running around this guy seems like he would be a good fit.
Should still be good... I just have no idea where he'd go.
I have in the past played him in a control deck with Ashiok font of fortunes Jace and Sphinx he'd come down as a 8/4 for 4 and stonewalled red aggro then killed before they could draw enough burn.
But I'd love for him to find a home again in a more aggressive deck.. it is super annoying that the elementals I'd like to play him with in KTK are all 4 cmc grrrr.. just give me a 3 cmc one seriously!.
I think it might work by using tempo to control the board and making 2-3 dudes at a time, instead of the MAKE BUNCHES OF DUDES! type of play it uses now.
This is a very, VERY rough list I threw together this past weekend. Granted, I never actually played Mono-U Devotion, but I was curious as to where it could go after rotation.
* Frost Lynx takes the place of Tidebinder Mage at a higher CMC, but it gets a pump from MoW (it's an Elemental!), is relevant in more matchups (taps down any creature for 2 turns), and the creature stays tapped down even if it's removed during your EOT.
* Triton Shorestalker was thrown in just to be a 1-CMC evasive beater.
* Omenspeaker gives some value by letting you scry, but is otherwise just a 1/3. Maybe Vaporkin would work better as a 2-drop since it gets a boost from Master?
* Quickling is a "counterspell" for spot removal and adds a little value to Omenspeaker. If Hall of Triumph is used, Quickling could be used to bounce Master, then recast for more tokens.
The reason I don't think master has the same strength as something like blade splicer is because he takes his tokens with him. I just don't think he's particularly valuable, maybe as sideboard tech against rabble red and that's it. And I don't Thassa will be played at all, it was difficult enough to keep her active with double and triple devotion creatures, now it'll be impossible.
I think Mindreaver is horrible for the deck. Tidebinder Mage may have been just a bear in some matches, but it was actually useful in others.
Mindreaver, though, will only ever be a bear because you can't consistently target him, and you have to sacrifice him to his ability. Best case scenario is your opponent plays a spell, you trigger Heroic on Mindreaver (somehow), get lucky and exile a copy of the spell, then you sac him to counter it? That's a lot of hoops to jump through just to make your 2-drop useful.
I don't think you HAVE to use Master of Waves or Thassa, God of the Sea in a strictly mono blue shell. Master is still really good even when its only for 2 or 3.

The card might as well not have a text box as far as I'm concerned.
Thassa and MoW need friends and this guy is all they've got since others got kicked out of the house.
