Just wanted to start a thread, since I didn't find one when I was searching, discussing the future or lack-there-of of Esper Control in the post-Khans standard format. Obviously, an element of this discussion remains to be seen as we do not know yet what Khans has to offer, but with all the RTR block staples rotating out this deck is going to need some major love from Khans. I'm curious to see if it's even possible for this deck to remain T1.

I have a feeling control is changing colors. Potentially to a wedge color combo like BUG.
If khans doesn't give us a 4-drop board wipe it is going to be very hard for control to remain relevant. Like what Lordgrimpow said most likely a wedge like B/U/G or maybe Grixis.
The lack of new cards which can eliminate planeswalkers is a serious concern of mine. Control may see a rise as a result of this. Once they get a planeswalker down they pretty much win, or place themselves in a situtation which is hard to beat.
For this reason i think control will definitely lean towards a green splash for kiora. Whether they give up white for black is another matter. Elspeth is absurdly op, but the new garruk does provide its own absurdity as well. I think it will come down to white being necessary for the redundancy of supreme verdict, banishing light, AND detention spheres. While blacks hero's downfall is only a single answer to planeswalkers.
They printed a board wipe but its a five drop but it does hit equipment, i think esper an U/W still have chance especially with all the planeswalkers an removal still
It's a little premature to say anything definitively, but I imagine that Esper could remain a viable deck. With all the planeswalkers that are in standard, Hero's Downfall and Banishing Light will certainly be relevant cards. Additionally, Fated Retribution will still be in standard, and, again, considering the number of planeswalkers likely to see play, I believe that, despite its cmc, it may be a reasonable inclusion in a control deck.
To be perfectly honest, I think that the color that's lacking the most tools for a control deck thus far is blue. Sure, you have a few counter spells and some draw spells, but that's about it. If I had to make a judgement based on the information available right now, I'd say that any Esper build post rotation would most likely rely more on black and white, and blue might be little more than a splash.
To be perfectly honest, I imagine that there may be several viable control decks in the upcoming standard environment. Esper could be perfectly playable, as could Bant, BUG, Junk, or even Jund. There seems to be a fair number of decent control cards spread out among all the colors, so I can imagine multiple control decks emerging. And, honestly, it's something that I would be glad to see. I've been playing Esper since before Innistrad rotated out, and I'm currently playing Bant control. While the UW control cards are certainly powerful, I feel like they've kept other control decks from emerging. I'm hoping that in the upcoming standard, we can experiment with a multitude of control strategies and decks!
There will be control, but it will play permanents to help manage the enemy. Nyx-Fleece Ram for example. It won't be quite as obnoxious with Sphinx's Revelation gone.
