Gregg is playing super sloppy against chris vanmeter... so hard to watch.
edit: The hard part is it looks like they will go to time, I don't think Vanmeter can win in 7 minutes and 5 turns with his opponent playing so slow. Great that he is teaching him how to do his turns, not so great as it has an effect on the outcome of his game.
I could be wrong too.
Oh god that guy Gregg Dieckhaus was really painful to watch. Slow and full of mistakes, like watching molasses move. Meanwhile another guy with a legitimate chance of advancing had to time out with a draw.
I think Chris Vanmeter was being too nice, spending time to explain so many things to this guy and reminding him to do this and that. It was his undoing. If I was in his shoes I'd demand timely play from the judges and speed things up.
Slow magic players are a pet peeve of mine, kind of like slow drivers in the left lane.
I haven't been playing too close of attention. Has there been any decks on shown stream that is not mono-blue (and Ephara variants), mono-black (and Bx variants), blue/white control (and blue/white/x variants), or Red/Green monsters?

You've covered pretty much every competitive deck possible lol. There was a BUG deck but it got crushed vs an esper Ephara deck.

Maybe. Game 3 was bleak for CVM but jeez I wanted to slap the other guy.

Such sloppy play against Van Meter in the first round. No clue why Chris let him take those super long turns. The guy missed a ton of triggers, and several attacks with mutavault (ie extra cards) plus wasting his Domestication. I hate getting a draw or losing to people that are playing so much worse than me...
It even looked like Chris Van Meter was even giving him blocking advice on his own attack at one point. That wasted Domestication was silly too I agree. What's weird is towards the end Chris purposely attacked the guy's Jace let him lose 2 loyalty counters even though the guy had +1 Jace last turn, yet for most of the match prior to that he was reminding the guy about triggers and giving him advice and explanations. But by then it was too late, he was already on his way to losing or drawing.
If you are at a tournament it isn't time to play nice guy in my opinion, you are devoting hours and hours of time and energy with the purpose to advance. Do that at FNM, not a tournament. Keep your killer instinct, don't make mistakes, and finish the game quick (win or lose) and rest and eat between rounds.

Hehe. I was hoping that we may have a bit more diversity than we currently have. But I guess that is wishful thinking.
Good guy CVM won't be so nice going forward I bet... I try really hard to be nice to new/bad players but that guy didn't even know how to play his own deck... Just painful.
I just don't understand it, the Mono-U guy was flip flopping phases - like he would draw then untap or play a land and CVM would be like draw phase dude... can't a judge say something at that point - I saw one sitting at the table?
hmm just saw that game from Josh Barnes versus Jeff Hoogland.
Well that was a comeback and a beating.
That said with BW as popular as it is onlineand as well positioned as it seems, I find it concerning just how dead Hoogland was to a resolved Blood Baron although that could just be bad luck on his part.
Also more Ashiok doing what Ashiok does best in competitive standard today.

It's actually suprising how many decks are weak or are just dead to Blood Baron of Vizkopa. People seem to forget about him when deck building until they get unpleasantly surprised.
As much as I like that Junk list, having actual removal would just have made that deck so much better.
That was the first thought that I had. Black has so much powerful removal. Seems like a waste to dont use them. Especially since there are many powerful creatures. I wonder how he plans to win against a Master of Waves?
On 1 end of the spectrum we have brad nelson devouring people for 1 mistake (not that I'm saying he's wrong though).. on the other end with have CVM teaching the other guy and correcting nearly all of his mistakes... jeez they should have a prize for best sportsmanship or at least give him recognition or something...
man was hoping hoogland's list would finish strongly... really liked BUG colors

Indeed, sportsmanship should be rewarded somehow even if it's just a small token or appreciation from the tournament organizers. Maybe it's hard to see from the tournament, but from the camera matches it's should be encouraged as an example. Maybe this would make this behavior more commonplace.
