But it was. Regardless of anything Owen could have had, the best play was to mainphase the Brave and then attack only with the Skyjek and the Soldier.
He didn't need to overextend there, he did, and lost for it.
Exactly this. FNM heroes here are just wrong. The orzhov guy misplayed. Simple as that. Big misplay too.
yeah i was wondering that two but i think his logic was he couldnt whip anything back that would do enough damage to bring his life past the next turns lethal
Didn't he have a Demon, a topdeck and another Demon in the graveyard though?
I'm just irritated that I've just watched two games where Owen hasn't won because of the good player that he is, but because his opponents don't seem to fully pay attention.

I thought he main phased Brave but I guess he used it during the attack phase? I need to see the play again but I see what you mean if Skyjek and Soldier were enough to deal lethal. Still, Ced made it sound like using Devour Flesh in that situation was such an obvious out that everyone was/should have been aware of when it wasn't. That was my main gripe.

Even without Devour Flesh it was the wrong play, but Ced was fine with his assumption in my opinion as in a competitive scene you should be aware of your opponents outs.
I understand where you're coming from though.
Also, Rayman had lethal on board game 2, was definetely going to lose and didn't risk going in.
Owen seemed to play a bit cocky in game 3.
I believe that the deck lists are posted a half hour after the Top 8 has begun.

Yeah, when I saw that play I assumed he was playing around Pharika's Cure, in which case playing Brave in the main phase makes even more sense. But that's my assumption for why he attacked with everything, because even if Owen used Cure on the Skyjek, he still would take lethal. The problem with this case, though, is hat it would still be a better idea to wait to respond with brave than use it preemptively. I agree with the announcers that he played too fast there.
EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.
To be fair only 3 of the 8 were boring mono X and consider that one of the mono B was piloted by the best mono B player there is. Pretty diverse top 8 really. 5 different decks.

I'd like to see this as well. couldn't find it on SCG's site. Where did he place and what was he piloting?
He was playing RUG devotion with Garruk, Jace, primespeakers, primordials and other ramp into bigstuff. He finished 29th overall, which isn't bad. He's from my area so I'll see if I can get the decklist out of him or someone he knows. Also, his name is Uric, I wonder if he puts Eric so it's easier for the tournament or if eric was a typo

Maybe SCG just replayed boring turn two Pack Rat games too much, then, because it was all over the place.
I must have saw the first ten minutes of CVM vs GW Aggro three times in five hours, so I wouldn't put it past their crackerjack editing team.

Ahem, I'm a DE hero. Huge difference.
Well luck is still a part of the game. Nothing you can do about it.

Well whille Mono blue and black are clearly the best two decks. 3 versions each in the top 16
If you take them away.... each other top 16 deck is unique.
All you have to do is take a step down to Tier 2 and standard is way more interesting.
Pioneer:UR Pheonix
Modern:U Mono U Tron
EDH
GB Glissa, the traitor: Army of Cans
UW Dragonlord Ojutai: Dragonlord NOjutai
UWGDerevi, Empyrial Tactician "you cannot fight the storm"
R Zirilan of the claw. The solution to every problem is dragons
UB Etrata, the Silencer Cloning assassination
Peasant cube: Cards I own
Owen's opponents, y u keep misplaying?
Edit: Again with the Pharika's Cure this time.
Sorry, I pulled a stupid.
The cure was his Owen's draw for the turn and he hit the soldier. Voice only gives you tokens if they cast the spell on your turn.
