This Past FNM I placed 5th of 22 with a 4-2 record. the games I lost was first round to a UW control build that ended up placing 3rd with 4-0-2 and a Red Aggro deck that was every explosive that on turn 4 he was hitting me for 23 damage. He ended up dropping after losing to the UW control deck. The decks that tied for first was a Mono Blue deck and a Black Devotion with a splash of green.
This deck is ideally what I would like to get with my current deck, Decks that have consistantly placing in my meta is Esper Control, Mono Black, and Mono Blue. I feel like this deck answers those three nicely.
Deck idea one is more solid, and similar to something my wife is running. I'd say drop Skylasher and Craska the Unseen and Slitherhead and add the following:

Help boost your deck, it is going to be the only way to keep up with the G/R Ramp Devotion decks.
Thank you very much for your input. Sadly I am more of a budget player and really cannot afford Cards like Deathrite Shaman and Sylvan Caryatid. There is cards in my area that are valued higher than say online and those two happen to be two of the cards. So people refuse to trade both the shaman and caryatid unless your giving 25$ worth of trade for the Shaman and 10$ worth of trade for the Caryatid.
What I thought about doing is running Voyaging Satyr for the Caryatid until I can get my hands on them.
Everything Else I see doable I just dont understand why people dont use Vraska....Not only does she kill whatever does damage to her but she can destroy any nonland perm and if she goes unchecked she wins you the game.
would absolutly love other people's opinions on the deck. Suggestions welcome, if you feel something isnt worth being in please explain why and what you would suggest better fits the role. Thank you so much
i like the first deck, I would consider Bow of Nylea as a one of and one Deadbridge Chant. These will make it harder to interact with many of your creatures and semi removal as well as getting back some of your win cons as well as returning some of your difficult to interact with creatures back to your hand.
Consider taking the charm down to 2x and try to pick up some Thoughtseize. Lastly try to get a Erebos, God of the Dead as there is lots of lifegain at the moment.
Thoughtseize is a good possiblity and completely agree with Erebos, Took out one swamp and put in a single Erebos, the Card draw would be very valuable aswell.
Wouldnt Deadbridge be alittle random? Would prefer consistancy over chance personally, I will play test it
Chant is not consistent enough for this type of deck.
Someone already said sylvan caryatid.
Someone already said 2 or 3 thoughtseize.
Cut down to 2 main deck golgari charm but don't let anyone tell you to take them out, it's never a dead card, it's good.
Um maybe swap ultimate price instead of doom blade. Right now mono b devotion, esper control, bw midrange, and blue devotion are the decks to beat. Doom blade is a dead card in two of those match ups and ultimate price can work in any of them, so the price is right.
I like vraska. Maybe Garruk would be better though.
Cut one reaper of wilds, add the fourth voyaging satyr. You have too many cmc4 and only 3 mana rampers.
Bow with its double GG will just mess up your mana.
doomblade >> Hero's Downfall (100% agree on the untimate price if you cant get the downfall)
Garruk would need more creatures in the deck and a good chunk of these are satyr
the bow and chant work very well together and can make it very easy to get back what you want for cards.
I would almost consider going Witchstalker over the mangler as i do agree that there are tons of black and blue decks running around.
i have also had great luck with Gift of Orzhova in golgari decks and it is worth playtesting as you have a few hexproof and some tokens that you want to get through.
If you cut the rogue's passage the mana base makes it much easier for any gg or bb casting cost cards.
So far in my meta, Not many people have picked up Mono-Black, Most are player Esper Control, Grixis Control, Mono-Blue, White Weenie, Green White aggro. The competitive ones anyways. Going off last FNM (Booster Box 1st place) Mono Blue won it. and there was 3 Mono Blue decks in the top 8. I was playing my White Weenie deck and placed 3rd. I just want a different option as people are starting to adjust to White Weenie slightly
Updated the deck that I am currently about to start testing. I feel that the deck has came a long way from the first draft. Gonna start play testing it tonight.
Testing so far has been pretty good, 6-2 against Aggro/Midrange decks. 4-2 against control decks. The deck seems to be alot more consistent than my white weenie deck. But my WW deck wins more often as it is alot faster than most decks being played at the moment.
I really like your deck, and something to maybe consider, since your running the high devotion cards anyways maybe drop the Gray Merchant of Asphodel in
you may find that some of the aggro matches will change when you get your hexproof wall. That little guy does end up stopping a lot of the early stuff.
The thoughseize helps a lot with controll and so does the chant as well as the connections. Hexproof is just annoying to deal with. I would consider adding anoter charm or two vs control matchup. It is an amazing card vs. control.
Play tested both the Devotion and the Midrange and I must say the Midrange performs alot better. The Scavenging Ooze really shines in this deck. Tested against Esper Control last night and I must say the Golgari Charm and Abrupt Decay were especially the stars. Allowing me to keep my creatures alive through sweepers and destroying the detention sphere. The Mono Black deck was able to do something against Esper also but it seemed alittle to dependant on Gray resolving.
the ooze is a great card, it just keeps a bit of pressure on the board. If you want to use the merchant it is so much better in just mono black. I can see that in a control matchup, you really have the advantage. The mid range really does feel like it has a good balance. I think that this deck would have a problem against mono black. The lifebane and the thoughtseize would cause a large problem, but I think that is the same way for everyone.
It is looking like a well balanced deck overall and if you happen to get a few of the cards that you are looking for I think that this will become a big problem for many decks to take on.
Ya I have decided fully to scrap the devotion idea. the Midrange aspect of the deck is working how I want it. I should be able to get my hands on scavenging oozes. I feel the only thing I need for this deck is maybe thoughtseize but even then that is a maybe.
After alot of trading this past weekend I am sitting pretty happy with the deck (actually have my own scavenging oozes). The deck I have found myself having the most trouble with is Esper Control.
I've been pretty happy so far in my limited testing with my new golgari deck, it runs a little faster than the midrange with a lot of answers to the current meta.
Regeneration is so strong right now with so much targeted removal, it makes this deck very hard to deal with. It also allows you to stonewall agro decks with regenerating trolls. Witchstalkers and Reapers also blank targeted removal and when you can make them huge with scavenge or boon satyrs. On top of the rest, running 3 pack rats in the 75 is really nice because there are a good number of decks that just can't deal with them at all, especially landing one turn 2 on the play. It usually ends up being: kill this rat before I untap or scoop. I'm looking forward to trying this deck in some of our local standard tournaments, but right now I like this list.
Some people have been questioning Nylea in this list; She is made active by a witchstalker + boon satyr, which isn't too difficult for this deck, is a end game mana dump that gives your reapers trample on top of their death touch, and my favorite thing with her, she scavenges for 4 mana to put 6 +1/+1 counters if you have a varolz out. She may not end up staying in the deck if I need to change things around, but seems to work pretty well with a heavy green base.
I really like that build it can be effective and really thrives around the scavenge concept. I can see that deck having problems against another deck running anything that exiles cards out of your graveyard. With Scavenging Ooze being such a popular 2 drop I can see that being a issue. (in my current meta I face 3-4 people that play green with scavenging ooze). I agree that spot removal is a thing right now but one thing I have noticed is people are ether running Hero's Downfalls and Ultimate Prices/ Doomblades. I gladly welcome a 1 for 1 Hero's Downfall at one of my creatures. And bulk of my creatures ignore the other two.
I like your concept but in my current meta trying to run a aggro build I generally get outraced by GrD or MBD. Going midrange it allows me to slow them down without having to sacrifice not dropping my aggro beats. I can see running aggro you will get into those matches where you start wondering which to play another creature to continue the race or removal to slow you and your opponent down.
I am really enjoying this deck, it has alot of answers for Mono Black, Mono Blue, Esper Control. Which are the big decks in my area. The one thing I have been running into is Dreg Mangler not really making a impact, I begin to wonder if he is a dead card but I really don't know of a good alternative other than Sylvan Caryatid. I also thought about dropping the creature and upping removals, which I tend to lean more and more to as this deck works really well when I have my removal in hand. Scavenging Ooze has been more times than Not a life saver to be able to come out and have alot of targets in GYs.
Here is my question, what would be more beneficial to my current deck?
Dropping creatures and upping my Removals
Or
Dropping semi early beater and upping Ramp to get my biggies out faster
Ok I ordered (almost) the rest of my Golgari Aggro deck last night. It might be more midrange-ish, not sure. Haven't wanted to shell out for Thoughseizeyet.
Against white weenie I will likely bring in Vraska, doom blade (SotP). RDW probably Whip of Erebos, Control I will bring in Duress and the other Golgari Charm.
Your deck is more aggroish, It is a solid build, the good thing about the turn one Elvish Mystic is probably your best bet due to the fact that you need that ramp to get your bigger guys out.
The cards I would look at and question is Boon Satyr and Slitherhead I do aggree Slither is a solid choice as a discard for Lotleth but that is a big wat if, sometimes you just need the stronger card in and if you discard him great. Boon, is a amazing card for something like GW but his 5 mana will hurt you in the end as your gonna want to spend that instant speed mana on removal.
Varolz is a very strong card for your build but he will work against Scavenging Ooze and they dont play well together. As you ether want to exile bigger creatures for his scavenge or exile them for the Ooze and gain that life (which has been game winning multiple times for my deck)
For a midrange deck Reaper is an amazing stabilizer, and sometimes I am happier to see her over Desecration Demon because she can't be tapped down and walked past with ease. Hence why I run 4 of her and 2 Demons, the Demons are more of Finishers that end the game for you.
For what you are trying to build I would suggest something close to what you have, I probably would drop the Boon Satyr and Slitherhead.
Two Drops you have solid basis with the Lotleth Troll and Scavenging Ooze.
Three Drops you have the only real viable Option with Dreg Mangler
4 drops I would say stick with Desecration, awith your more Aggroish feel I would say keep him to finish people off. I would suggest putting in at least Erebos, God of the Dead. Gotta stop people from gaining that life.
I would greatly suggest putting Whips in, that card can help you keep the onslaught happening over and over, and save you from being out raced.
Finally I would overall suggest you upping your total removal, Get Ultimate Price in there, with all the mono decks out there this card really shines.
With all I suggested I really hope I didnt confuse you. I feel like I was all over the place.
Edit:I would drop the Elvish Mystics and run more one drops....the thing about the one drops once you get past turn 3-4 they can be food for your troll to make him stronger.
As for Sideboard....Yes I would put in Doomblades and Dark Betrayals for the cards you cant destroy with Ultimate Price
Duress/Thoughtseizes are almost a must have when it comes to Control Match ups. Put in 2 Charms and 1 Abrupt decay they can win you matchs against both aggro and Control matches. Finally I found Gaze of Granite to be valuable against token decks and decks that can get out of hand.
Awesome advice! I also have a playset of Tormented Hero already so that will be an easy switch. I also like the idea of Dryad Militant. I am going to drop the Elvish Mystics and Boon Satyrs (Boon Satyr was suspect for me in the first place). Do you think Experiment One and Tormented Hero would be good one drops if I don't have any Dryad Militant's handy?
And I think I will MB the whips. The lifelink should be valuable.
Thanks!

Cut rogues passage.
Garruk would need more creatures in the deck and a good chunk of these are satyr

It's Regrowth. How it's not in decks with B/G is beyond me. If the pricey cards aren't an option, consider those that are unused and forgotten.
Again, it's Regrowth. Hell, run x4 and enjoy the antics.
that would be a great card in a GY recursion deck. I personally cannot see anything I would drop for the card.

Do you have what it takes to survive?
Here is my question, what would be more beneficial to my current deck?
Dropping creatures and upping my Removals
Or
Dropping semi early beater and upping Ramp to get my biggies out faster

Do you have what it takes to survive?
4x Slitherhead
4x Lotleth Troll
3x Scavenging Ooze
4x Dreg Mangler
4x Boon Satyr
3x Desecration Demon
3x Golgari Charm
3x Putrefy
The game plan is this:
T1 - Land, Elvish Mystic
T2 - Land, Lotleth Troll, discard Slitherhead
T3 - Land, Scavenging Ooze, eat Slitherhead
In the meantime, removal and whatnot with Putrefy and Abrupt decay. The win con then being a bestowed Boon Satyr on a troll or the DD.
I am not completely sold on Elvish Mystic in this.
Cards I am still considering but not sure:
Varolz, the Scar-Striped - I ordered 3 of him, but I'm not sold.
Reaper of the Wilds - I can still pick her up pretty cheap, but I think DD is a much better 4 drop
Experiment One - He can be very punishing when he gets big (and is hard to remove), but I'm not sure if he fits this deck
Sideboard is in the works, but I am planning:
3x Doom Blade
2x Devour Flesh
2x Vraska the Unseen (MB possibly??)
1x Golgari Charm
3x Duress
2x Whip of Erebos
2x Underworld Connections
Against white weenie I will likely bring in Vraska, doom blade (SotP). RDW probably Whip of Erebos, Control I will bring in Duress and the other Golgari Charm.
Any input would be great!
Going off your kind of deck for a 1 drop you got Deathrite Shaman, Tormented Hero, Rakdos Cackler, Elvish Mystic, Dryad Militant. All one drops that can allow you to get out ahead.
Suggested Deck
4 Dryad Militant
4 Tormented Hero
4 Lotleth Troll
4 Scavenging Ooze
4 Dreg Mangler
3 Desecration Demon
1 Erebos, God of the Dead
2 Whip of Erebos
3 Abrupt Decay
3 Putrefy
2 Ultimate Price
2 Golgari Charm
As for Sideboard....Yes I would put in Doomblades and Dark Betrayals for the cards you cant destroy with Ultimate Price
Duress/Thoughtseizes are almost a must have when it comes to Control Match ups. Put in 2 Charms and 1 Abrupt decay they can win you matchs against both aggro and Control matches. Finally I found Gaze of Granite to be valuable against token decks and decks that can get out of hand.

And I think I will MB the whips. The lifelink should be valuable.
Thanks!
