Has anyone tried American Heroic? I've been looking threw the thread and haven't stumbled upon any. Can someone post a deck they're running for it? I have too many ideas but none I've been able to settle on.
I posted a list called American Soldiers; it's a combination of Heroic and Outlast. The main idea, however, was Daxos of Meletis and Ride Down. It's done poorly and I've pretty much given up on Daxos.
Sorry i cant read the article so half of the questions i ask have probably already been answered in it.
Im not 100% sure about Eidolon of countless battles am i missing something? I can see what it does but usually you win with 2 creatures, one with Aqueous Form/Stratus Walk/God's Willing (pro from whatever colour). Wouldnt Fabled Hero be much better?
I don't have access to the article myself either, but I would guess that the reason to use the eidolon is primarily due to bestow. Additionally it has some neat synergy with Hero of Iroas as well.
My only loss was to a Rabble/Brimaz with burn. Should have boarded in the Lagonna-Band Trailblazer. It was my first time playing the deck so I was not really confortable piloting it against burn.
I've been testing a very simple list. I normally mulligan to 5 or 6, but most typically only need 1 land, 1 creature, and the rest is gravy. I've been very tempted to splash red, but the mana base needs to be consistent and can't miss a beat -- so it looks like american heroes has to wait until they reprint mesas and tarns
Wow, I am not sure that I could run that few creatures, thought it would be nice to have so many spells. A thoughtseize would be so brutal with only 12 creatures. I guess with so many save spells, you could beat a bit of removal. You'd almost have to wait for turn 2 or 3 to play your creature with the spell backup. I did that yesterday and it worked really well.
I am considering running ephemeral shields over feat of resistance because of convoke. Not sure, though. I like having at least 8 save cards (gods willing and ajani), probably will want 10. The plus of feat, though, is that its a color protection so it beats banishing light.
Unfortunately, we need that many spells. The only thing I've been wondering about cutting is Triton / Defiant Strike for maybe 2 Treasure Cruise and maybe Stratus Walk / Aerial Formation main. Thoughtseize is Brutal, but so is going late game. lol. Win fast or go home
Notably you can see the I chose not to include Battlewise Hoplite. I knew that I wanted the four Hero of Iroas to synergise with the Eidolons,
and scry on heroic felt useless in this deck as we have so many ways to scry as it is.
In his place I am trying two copies of Akroan Skyguard, to force through damage in clogged boards when i don't draw my evasion enchantments, as well as being a fantastic creature to bestow onto.
Lagonna-Band Elder is included as a four-of in the 75 because of how important it is to have a one-drop on turn 1 so that you can leave up trick mana as early as turn 2,
and because the 0/4 body is fantastic against Jeskai Tempo, which is a somewhat miserable (and very very common) matchup. Also relevant is that many early round matches include aggressive red decks packing Lightning Strike and Stoke the Flames, along with little dudes that you really really want to block. Triton Tactics is a four-of in the 75 for most of the same reasons.
Cheap protection against burn, allowing you to hold your Gods Willings for more important uses. Can also act as pseudo-removal in races when you can surprise block your opponent.
When I first began playing this deck I disliked Eidolon of the Countless Battles, but after playing some I found I was lacking the raw power needed to close out many games, especially versus Green Devotion and Jeskai Storm. Mortal Obstinacy in the sideboard furhter helps the storm matchup, as well as having plenty of random targets that you could board it in to deal with. That's all I can think of for now, please respond with any questions (or to call me crazy for cutting Battlewise Hoplite :P)
(Ps. try to never ever ever let a Jeskai Charm resolve on your creature, it's basically the worst)
Edit 1: I would love to maybe find room for a couple extra spells in the maindeck, any ideas on what to cut?
Edit 2: I give up on the formatting. Sorry.
Edit 3: Keeping track of your Heroic dudes names is tough. WTF is a Fabled HOplite or a Battlewise Hero)
This thread was active during spoiler season and all the talk was about WG abusing Hardened Scales.
While I haven't seen many posts with results for that build, I'm happy to see a reassurance of WU. I've been winning like crazy on MTGO with this list.
I was playing almost the exact same list before rotation with about 50% success, and that was in a full strength standard. Now I'm winning 4/5 against up and coming decks. Voltron/Enchantress is the way to go imo. Most of the removal in the format is 3 mana (Charms, Downfall, Banishing Light, Anger). We are just faster than it and have good answers - Feat of Resistance has been a fine replacement for Mizzium Skin. I haven't even found it necessary to side Ajani's Presence now that Verdict is gone. The only spell I fear is Crackling Doom but I have yet to encounter it.
Heroic's very best friend is card draw. More cards = more triggers = more wins.
Plenty of protection between triton tactics, crypsis, ranger's guile.
Tappers (blue) + Sedge Scorpion (green) does not care about God's Willing. Moreover, Crypsis is a trade that results in 2 dead cards.
Warriors' Lesson is often draw three cards for one green mana...
If you don't dwindle your opponent to death, chasm skulker/kiora finish the game.
I am, however, currently using 2 dream thief's and an extra hunter's prowess because I do not own 2 chasm skulker or kiora.
Yep, I have. Hardened Scales and Solidarity of Heroes works wonders with heroic. I combined it with blue to form a Bant heroic deck. It feels good to swing in with an unblockable 15/15 and scry when it attacks.

It is a premium article though.
