Yeah, there's a drawback, it's just not nearly as much of one as I was thinking which means it's likely the pros of playing the card outweigh the cons.
And yeah, 22 red sources is pretty good for playing Reckoner on curve. The chances of having 3 red sources in play on turn 3 are 79.6%, while the chances of having at least 1 Reckoner in hand on that turn are 52.7% - so you're much more likely to have the mana to cast Reckoner than you are to actually have Reckoner.
IME, that's a pretty good way to determine if your mana base will regularly support the spells in your deck.
In my build, Im considering 24 lands for another Lightning. Strike. Thoughts?
Good argument. I'm actually believing in my burn package and Chandra. There's no ridiculous lifegain anymore - so most of my opponent should be in the burn range.
Fair point, but Fiendslayer Paladin is still something to worry about. Again, you only have 4 Chained to deal with it before combat, and an Orzhov deck with Blood Baron (Mortars is your only kill for him), Fiendslayer, and that removal package could give this list fits. Also, 1 Ghost Dad could spell doom for your list outside of having 2 burn spells.
Upon further review, how does the cluestone work? Is it too slow or decent for mana ramp?
If anyone would be interested in my brews (sorry, but "the better ones"), join us on Dies To Removal and Fires of Salvation - the old gang that made Red decks competitive some time ago. Or just have fun here.
i dont think anyone has an issue with your advice, but rather your attitude. no offense, but it was a little superior, and i for one just shut down vs superior attitudes- makes me not focus on what you have to say. again no offense meant
i think assemble the legion, while not doing anything the turn it enters the battlefield still is a good choice for this deck. it works great with purph. be nice to add some synergy to make it do something when it etb, but ajani's chosen has been hated down upon a bit
While I have nothing against any individual cards (a bit skeptical about Gideon, but that's more due to the fact that I've never played the card than anything else), I am worried that you only have 7 cards to interact with before turn 3, and neither sweeper nor life gain to try and recoup lost ground against an aggressive opponent or simply a midrange deck who starts their fire before you do.
The same issue as above is true with your mana curve sitting at a high end that worries me. I'm not sure how good Flamespeaker is, but you do have 14 solid triggers for it. If it's good anywhere then it will most likely be here. I'm not much of a Johnny though, ask ze Warder about it

Hmm. i would say that while i like flamespeaker adept and see its possibilities- giving it pro-color to pump it +2 is ok, just doesnt seem quite there. magma and spark are nice, but underwhelming a bit- unless scry is more helpful in this deck than i am giving it credit for. Overall i think that there may be better cards for those spots- boros charm for instance. ill run some solitaire and delve further.
He seems explosive, would work well in a heroic deck that already gets value out of God's Willing because him unblockable makes me smile. Mana is too bad atm for him to be in the zerg deck he deserves.
Also, if you're auditioning for my bond warder that's Servant of The Grey :P.
I know it will sound lame but what about legion's initiative?
The problem with anthems is you want them to always do something so you'd need to build the deck around them! I say go for it though, Legion's Iniative+Assemble seems sick. i would stick to a red base as power>toughness mostly. Reckoner obv.
I haven't thought of a SB yet but will eventually.
Cards I'd like to try:
*Gideon...I really like him. I have been playing mono-white for a few weeks and really like how he works. He's a threat that has to be dealt with pretty quickly. If I don't use him in this, I plan on using him in my Wr deck I'm making (more white with red splash).
*Aurelia's Fury...I feel that this at EOT on your opponent's turn is good for an easy win if you already have a great board presence. Definitely thinking of this as a SB card.
*Mindsparker...it seems good against esper control. A SB card if control takes shape more after Theros comes out
*Ogre Battledriver...I really want this to work but cutting something MB seems wrong.

My first draft of my version looked just like this.
Gideon doesn't impress me that much at all. At 4, I'd rather play something that can immediately put pressure on board or start generating card advantage. Gideon just doesn't cut it for me.
Aurelia's Fury. This is something I can possibly get behind playing in the SB. Nice way to stop control decks from doing stuff, and them missing an attack step is a nice trick to pull on against Rx aggro. If X is big enough with Fury, it can wipe their board.
Mindsparker. Possible SB for sure.
Spark Trooper + Gift of Immortality?
That is....hmm...well...
That right there is like a nice piece of Cheesecake when you're on a diet. It looks so good and so tempting, but in the end is it worth it? It would be an immediate target for graveyard removal (DRS, Scooze) or is a 12 point swing in your favor.
Fury is another reason to consider a more aggressive approach and running Nyx. If you can get a high devotion count you can win on the spot with a Nyx fueled Auerlia's Fury.

i agree. playtesting it out, solitaire, and having a nyx could do really well. huge in fact. i really think fury is something really to consider.
The problem with anthems is you want them to always do something so you'd need to build the deck around them! I say go for it though, Legion's Iniative+Assemble seems sick. i would stick to a red base as power>toughness mostly. Reckoner obv.

Well, i was thinking about the ability and not the anthem. If U have purp and elspeth on the battlefield, you can +1 for 6 dmg and with 2 manas flash them all to dmg again! And they still have the haste.
Or im overlookin something?

the problem with tokens is that when you exile them, they are gone for good. so you'd only get 6 damage in that once and that's it.

Match 1 Prophet Bant.
Game 1: He lands an early Prophet of Kruphix and counters each removal spell I aim at it. Luckily he doesn't counter anything else and I'm able to land Purph+Assemble the Legion. He survives for quite a while with triple Sphinx's Revelation into various fatties, all of which are chumped until he plays Angel of Sereninty to clear tokens (thankfully purph was not a creature or I could've lost) I am able to land an Elsepth on the next turn and clear the Angel away after only one swing at me. After that, Legion+Elspeth kills him, barley.
Game 2: I think I am too wary of Prophet in this game as I lose a Reckoner to kill it (blocking a smiter, redirect to prophet) and use a pletohra of removal to keep it off the board. Unfortunately it leaves me empty for his two smiters and Advent token.
Game 3: I manage a strong curve of 3 reckoner 4 prophet 5 assemble. unfortunately he counters them all. I land a Chandra though and start to 0 each turn. I remove all of his creatures and he does the same to mine. Eventually I get a Stormbreath Dragon to stick. It kills him almost completely solo. Ironically he taps out for a sphinx's revelation on the turn I kill him. I wait until it resolves and monsterous my dragon.
Match 2 SuperSecretTech.dek
Silly names aside this guy was playing the strangest assortment of cards. I don't even remember what they were, can't remember anything he actually played. I know I squeaked by 2-0 but I don't know of a single creature that I got in for damage with. I know I never resolved a single spell against him, but man, that guy "bye" is skilled.
Match 3 v Naya aggro
Game 1: I'm on the draw. I mortars a Fleecemane Lion, then play Reckoner against a Reckoner. He plays Smiter, I chandra. He attacks with both, I block smiter w/ reckoner. He has the rampager. I take out his reckoner. So the board is his smiter alone. I'm fine with that, I drop assemble. He swings with smiter and plays a scaveging ooze. I untap, get a nice token to chump block and chain his smiter. From that point I have a near endless supply of creatures to block him. He has advent, but I use a removal spell on it. Eventually draw Purph and win.
Game 2: I win this one fairly easily, but it's mostly due to their mulligan to 4. I'm able to answer or match their first 3 threats then proceed to Assemble>Chandra+Chain>Elspeth into a concession.
Match 4 G/W Aggro
Game 1: We trade removal for creatures for a while, he starts experiment one into gyre sage into gyre sage, I magma jet into jet+ chians. I land purph on an empty board with assemble in hand. He plays fleemane lion then advent. For the next three turns I draw ash zealot, elspeth elspeth and die to the damage. If I had hit a land, a non-zealot creature or removal chances are I would've won as he was empty handed.
Game 2: This one is back and forth quite a bit. He goes Experiment One>Exeriment One+Soldier of the Pantheon. My first play is a reckoner which brick walls him as all he can follow up with is gyre sage. I drop Chandra and kill his soldier. He plays another solider followed by a smiter and swings with 2x expeirmetns and a 3/4 gyre sage. I block one experiment to downsize them, and reidrect to another. I eat his next soldier with chandra next turn. play reckoner and magma jet his last experimetn leaving him with smiter+sage. I block and kill sage next turn and he passes. I play fiendslayer and mortars his smiter. So board is chandra at 7 counters I'm at 7 life. he EOT advents then untaps and drops kalonian tusker. I have three draws (normals plus chandra) to find chained to the rocks/celestial flare/elsepth/mortars and fail to do so.
Even considering the loss in the finals it was a very nice ride to 3-1 and I never felt like I was out. The G/W deck I lost against is very beatable but punishes any stumbles harshly. I never felt out of either of the games, I always had multiple live draws to help stabilize and I'm fully confident my end game trumps anything he can play. I'm not sure what I can do to make the matchup more favorable.
So I built the deck more like midrange goodstuff Jund deck. The deck already has good match ups in most areas. The sideboard was made for control as Assemble, Elspeth, and Stormbreath just aren't enough for control. The pool of Boros cards weren't very deep for a midrange deck against control so I decided to utilize a transformation sideboard at the cost of only slightly lowering other matchups to vastly improve this one. It can still work well as a sideboard guessing game in other match ups.
