Hey guys, if you tuned into the TCG Player MaxPoint Championship this past weekend, you might have seen Brad Nelson playing a very interesting RDW that looked more like a Theros draft deck.
He was running Akroan Crusaders, Titan's Strengths, and Dragon Mantles in the deck. It at 4-1 when he was featured.
Does anyone know the full list that he was running?
You can find it at starcitygames.com on premium vs. Naya Control w/ Todd Anderson. I played in an Open recently, getting a month of premium free; that's how I know this.
I would do a google search. I believe that all cards are 2 or less except sideboard 4 Peak Eruption, 17 mountain, and a bunch of 1 drops.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)

Ah thank you, I haven't gotten around to subbing for premium yet so I didn't look there. I'll check it out.

Some idiot online was running this deck. I was wondering what the heck was going on, now it makes sense. I smashed him, this is a pathetic pile of cards.

With your busted as **** Mono Black deck?
This deck is actually not half bad, and I would stray from bashing it. It may not be the most optimal set up but it is certainly not a pathetic pile of cards...

You're not understanding how synergetic decks actually work. This isn't just a "huge pile of crap cards", they all interact well together with an insane curve. You can potentially kill before your opponent has a chance to play even one spell.
But alias... like the stigma of all aggro decks, it'll be deemed junk until proven. I remember reading how Mono U was a PT wonder as well, NEVER would it last in a big tournament.

Did you not even read what i said? I played against it, it sucked, i won easily.

And the 5 people Brad Nelson beat with it in the tournament were crushed easily. It's almost as though magic decks can have different results when played! OMG someone call the governor this changes everything we know about magic forever!

T2 Frostburn Weird + T3 Anger of the Gods seems to take care of it, but that's asking for much of your deck. I don't like Electrickery but it does seem like a good card against this deck.
I put this deck together in paper and have been playing it the past few days. It has some very explosive draws. In one game today against mono blue this happened on the play
T1 Mountain, Akroan Crusader
T1 Island, Judge's Familiar
T2 Mountain, Madcap Skills, swing 5
T2 Island
T3 Upkeep Titan's Strength, draw, Mountain, Ash Zealot, swing 11
T3 Scoop
On the other hand it also has some very clunky draws. It reminds me a lot of Naya Blitz from last season. It is extremely fast but can't beat things like a couple of Ox's/Weirds and sometimes it just loses to itself.
As far as the price:performance ratio goes this is one of the best decks out there in my opinion.
On the subject of Brad Nelson, he has given credit to others for this deck on camera twice now. He often netdecks other peoples stuff but he doesn't claim it's his.
Anyways, I've had a lot of trouble beating Frostburn Weird. It can be done but you need removal spells or Madcap Skills.
Link to the deck. I hate brad nelson's ability to take credit for every single deck he plays. Its annoying as all shizz
I have a feeling that Nelson isn't blatantly taking credit for coming up with the idea. What is probably happening is simply... Nelson is the first player to win a big tournament with the deck and thus he's "credited" with being the originator of the deck.
Also, lets be a little fair to the guy... he presumably put in the work to test it against the metagame and make tweaks here and there. So it's not like he just showed up to the tournament with someone elses list without putting the work in playtesting it.
As DarkRitual says, he is a good pilot and he plays non-streamline decklists. I actually respect that he is brave enough to take something to tournaments that isn't a part of the meta, and win.

The red mage lives by the variance and dies by the variance. May the variance be with you, always.

Coming to a concrete conclusion based off of a sample size of one is bad magics.

I'm very confused about many of the card choices. For example, Arena Athlete over Firefist Striker. Also, BTE seems strong in this deck.

... proceed to crawl up the wall in crab position with your head hanging backwards until you reach the ceiling. Once you are there, start screaming "For the Glory of Satan" while blood seeps out of your eye sockets (bonus points if they land on her desk).
Generally works for me in those kinds of situations.
The best part about this deck is it's economic friendliness. No mythic rares. No rares. No expensive cards. You can get someone to give you these cards for free. Decks that cost the least in real money are always a win in my book. 10/10.

This deck was built my Tom Ross and a few other locals and was ported over to the SCG team via Tannon Grace.
Just throwing that information out there.

So you won against one deck, one time, and you just automatically deem "it sucks".... without any real knowledge of how it works.
Gotchya.
I'm glad we had this conversation, helps me "filter" out posts in the future.
Tried it. It is fun.
Very fast. Mantle is KEY because it cantrips.
Enjoying myself playing around with it.
I beat a Pro Player once. He mulled to 4 in game 3 and I topdecked the win off a win-card left in my deck.
That Pro Player sucks (name withheld for his safety).
Brad Nelson DID give Tom Ross credit in his vs. video on SCG Premium. He said that when Tom Ross says a deck is for real, he's not bs'ing.

Damn... No need to buy this deck, I feel like people would just give this deck away.

I like this deck. Easy on the budget and hella fun.

It more so reminds of those AIR decks.
