One of my LGS's is having a mono color standard deck tournament next week, and I'd like to build something that'll sweep the competition. I'm assuming that RDW is the most viable and is probably going to be the most popular, but I'd like to hear your opinions on anything else I could build that would take first place.
*And if you were wondering, I CANNOT use hybrid cards (sorry, boros reckoner).
RDW is probably the best choice, however a mono G stompy deck with Strangleroot Geist,ThragtuskWolfir Silverheart and Predator Ooze could work to your advantage as RDW generally can't deal with the bigger creature. Since there is no Hybrid cards, BurningTree will not be a thing, so MBC could work out also.
For the most part, the creatures are just better than RDW's in the early game (all that FS) and the deck can just do massive amounts of damage out of nowhere. If you're expecting a lot more control-ish decks, though, then White Weenie is probably not the call.

Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
I've been thinking about MBC as ultimate price would be insane here as a 4 of. The only thing I worry about is plainswalkers as MBC really can't deal with them outside of splashing red for dreadbore
Mono-green sounds insane if for no other reason than access to ramp and Thragtusk. Oh, and Garruk (either one).

Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.
I like your version and I originally went with Jubilation over Sublime, but I figured between Rogue's Passage, Ajani, and KoG (which is immune to everything in black besides Mutilate and that -1/-1 Curse) that I'd want one thing getting super big instead of lots of things getting a little bigger.
That being said, my version is just something I came up with in like 10 minutes, so if you have any actual experience with your list then you're doing better than me.
I would like to suggest that whatever you go with have any "Protection from color" creatures available in it, though. Having protection from basically your opponent's entire deck in some MUs is pretty absurd.

Haha I was just kidding man, I actually think rubblebelt works alright; more so in straight R/G though. How's primordial hydra working out for you? its not something I see in every day mono g lists

The hydra is INSANE with the corpsejack , already hit the board with double counters. Is a card that your opponent have to deal in the next round or he will lose the game. works good with blessing of nature and garruk too . I like it alot

Yeah Ajani does provide you a bit of extra evasion to get an exalted pump through, I'm just wary of running Sublime without the cheap reoccurring evasion that is Rancor.
I havn't tested this deck or anything but it seems pretty solid on paper. Between Ulvenwald Tracker, Revenge of the Hunted, Garruk Relentless and Avenger/Yeva's ability to act as pseudo removal you should be able to interact with your opponent sufficiently.
Revenge of the Hunted is the green Bonfire and flat out wins games in my experience.
Budget isn't really an issue, the only thing is that I probably won't have access to the caverns by next week (shop doesn't have them and no one has them to trade). How viable would MBC be ? It seems like it would be decent but RDW's burn would be a problem unless I can stick nighthawks or play blood artists or something.

Not a big deal. I can't see mono blue control being all that viable haha.
That list actually looks pretty fun, I didn't think of Killing wave either. I think nighthawks would be good to find space for however, even if they're not as synergystic with blood artist.
Not a big deal. I can't see mono blue control being all that viable haha.
It would probably be quite viable as most of the cards that screw blue over are multi-colored. Few people will probably choose to play cavern as no one will expect blue and cavern does affect mana fixing. Play a bunch of tap, bounce, and counter with augur and snapcaster for blockers and think twice to draw. Probably will need 3 architect (need the draw and board control), 2 memory adept, and 1 tamiyo. Finish with aetherling, memory adept, or tamiyo.
There was that one mono black vamps that won MTGO daily a month ago. I would just adjust it for a full set of Ultimate Price or use some Gloom Surgeon. Gloom Surgeon will be almost totally safe and will be asking for removals while Nocturnus, Nighthawk, and Keeper and stay safe.

If I go mono B, my core would definitely be 4 ultimate price, 4mutilate, and 4vampire nighthawk. I was actually trying to do Conley Woods' pt gatecrash list without the red, would that work? It seems the red is mainly for dreadbore anyways, so could I just swap in some more removal or possibly creatures and be fine? I like his core of crypt ghast + griselbrand.

MBC is far and away the best mono color deck. It also has the only board wipe. Crypt Ghast > Griselbrand is way over the top of anything another mono color decks can do.
Gloom Surgeon and Nighthawk can slow down the aggro decks. If you resolve Griselbrand vs aggro they just lose on the spot.

Great point on KoG.
I usually prefer the body in Silverblade over Ajani and I think you may as well if you are indeed figuring to see a good amount of RDW.
As for Mono G, is budget an issue?
4 Arbor Elf
3 Ulvenwald Tracker
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Predator Ooze
2 Wolfir Avenger
3 Yeva, Nature's Herald
4 Thragtusk
2 Wolfir Silverheart
4 Rancor
3 Revenge of the Hunted
Planeswalker (3)
2 Garruk Relentless
1 Garruk Primal Hunter

2 Cavern of Souls

I would alternately consider zombies.
3 Blood Artist
4 Bloodline Keeper
4 Vampire Nighthawk
3 Vampire Nocturnus
Spells: 21
2 Devour Flesh
4 Mutilate
4 Sign in Blood
3 Staff of Nin
2 Tragic Slip
2 Tribute to Hunger
2 Ultimate Price
2 Victim of Night
25 Swamp
2 Cremate
4 Duress
3 Human Frailty
2 Pithing Needle
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Underworld Connections
Standard: BG Golgari Midrange
Modern: U Merfolk GWUBR 5 Color Humans UBW Esper Gifts GW Bogles
Don't know how viable it is in the unknown meta of this tournament, but I don't think it's strictly unplayable either:
4 Augur of Bolas
4 Snapcaster Mage
3 Dungeon Geist
1 Aetherling
Spells: 21
3 Syncopate
4 Thought Scour
2 Unsummon
2 Cyclonic Rift
2 Peel from Reality
4 Think Twice
2 Dissipate
2 Switcheroo
3 Jace, Architect of Thought
1 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
Lands: 23
3 Haunted Fengraf
20 Island
It's unpolished, but that's a lot of CA and tempo that no other color (besides maybe black) will have access to.

Standard: lol no
Modern: BG/x, UR/x, Burn, Merfolk, Zoo, Storm
Legacy: Shardless BUG, Delver (BUG, RUG, Grixis), Landstill, Depths Combo, Merfolk
Vintage: Dark Times, BUG Fish, Merfolk
EDH: Teysa, Orzhov Scion / Krenko, Mob Boss / Stonebrow, Krosan Hero
Yes, artifacts are allowed. Although honestly I can't imagine a lot that would be great to use.
It depends on what you choose. If you chose to go MBC, Staff of Nin would be a good addition.
I do think Ultimate Price is amazing in the format you're talking about, and would be a big reason to go black.
I'd want to run some mix including most of the following if MBC:
Creatures
Glood Surgeon
Crypt Ghast
Vampire Nighthawk
Desecration Demon
Griselbrand
Planeswalkers
Liliana of the Veil
Liliana of the Dark Realms
Instants/Sorceries
Ultimate Price
Devour Flesh
Tribute to Hunger
Tragic Slip
Mutilate
Murder
Sign in Blood
Cremate
Enchantments
Curse of Death's Hold
Dead Weight
Artifacts
