With the new set "m14" coming out I plan on making a new deck. I'm thinking a white, green, black life gain. I am thinking about basing the deck off of angel of thune. The problem I have is in my meta most people Are playing aggro and control so I need away to get around those decks. If anyone could help me that would be great!

The idea behind this deck, in a nutshell, is to gain as much life as possible while halting the current aggro heavy meta with the creature removal and Silverblade + Nighthawk First Strike/Deathtouch combo.
This is what I am thinking about switching to with M14:
-1 Resto Angel
-1 Rhox Faithmender
-1 Obzedat Ghost Council
+2 Archangel of Thune
+1 Angelic Accord
As far as other cards I've been considering..Fog has also been in my deck testing with this, I have mixed results. Deadly Recluse has also been on my mind, but will only be liable until silverblade rotates out due to not having first strike with deathtouch, makes it kind of useless. Fiendslayer Paladin looks like another viable card for this deck, he is cheap (1WW), Firststrike/Lifelink and can't be burned, just not sure where to fit him in.
Having a Scavenging Ooze in play with the angel is really good, because exiling a creature gives him 2 counters, while giving counters to all the rest as well.

But it doesn't have trample or lifelink making its synergy with the deck too small to justify inclusion.
Also @Bobby, you will find that Trostani has more synergy with Angelic Accord than it does with Obzedat. And Angelic Accord is harder (usually) to deal with than Obzedat. (even for control decks) Both can be countered, but enchantment removal is less abundant than creature removal.
Also running 0 Thragtusks is a mistake (I hope) on your part, unless you're a budget player. Judging by your mana base and a few other inclusions, you're not.
I'm not sure how prominent Junk Rites will be anymore due to the release of another hate card: Scavenging Ooze. I therefore removed 4 Deathrite Shaman. Feel free to change this, based on your meta. But, since they aren't completely reliant on their grave to win as they have proven time and time again, it was a safe decision. Things like Appetite for Brains will hurt them more because it exiles their threats and prevents them from hard-casting them as well.
I've also faced a deck with this theme before at FNM. It lost to Bant Flash and American Control. So it's safe to assume you need to be ready for such style of decks.
-2 Doom Blade
-2 Devour Flesh
-2 Putrefy
-2 Archangel of Thune
Much fewer opposing creatures warrants this decision. Archangel is just win more here. It can be justified (depending on what your opponent runs) to remove something else in this matchup.
+3 Voice of Resurgence
+3 Appetite for Brains
+2 Liliana of the Veil
Much higher instant-speed spell count warrants this. Also, because they're creatures you will be able to keep applying pressure after board wipes.
Against aggressive decks, most decks fall prey to their speed.
-2 Archangel of Thune
-2 Angelic Accord
These cards are too slow to deal with decks as fast-paced as a competitive aggro deck.
+4 Fiendslayer Paladin
Get some lower casting cost lifelink creatures in. The first strike will deal with most 2/2 bears and the protection from red spells will protect it from things like Shock/Searing Spear.
A different type of aggressive deck called Bant Hexproof (or Bant Auras) and Naya Hexproof will (most likely) be emerging as dominant forces in the Standard metagame, therefore you should be ready for dealing with their buffed hexproof creatures. Things like Liliana of the Veil and Devour Flesh are a must for this deck to deal with them.
-2 Doom Blade
-2 Putrefy
-1 Archangel of Thune (again too slow)
+2 Devour Flesh
+2 Liliana of the Veil
+1 Ray of Revelation
Does crypt incursion trigger archangel once or multiple times? Im thinking each time since it says each creature and not something like 3 times the number of creatures.
Also no mention of saguine bond and guilmage for extra damage? Or bubbling couldron to block sac and gain 4, make an angel all day long. Even a 128/128 hydra wont get past.
LordGrimpow, I had actually not considered Angelic Accord, you're right about it having more synergy. Dropping Obzedat, Ghost Council might be the right move, as he is one of the harder cards to cast in the deck.
Thragtusk is a card I've just never enjoyed, but he rightfully deserves his spot. I will put him him. There's also Rhox Faithmender I forgot about. To make room, since you're probably right about Deathrite Shaman being unnecessary, and his interaction might be too cute with Deadbridge Chant, here are my cuts.
I'm thinking of this switch :
I'm not completely sold on Angelic Accord though, while it has synergy, it's a horrible topdeck when trying to recover, and it needs other cards to function. We'll see though. I might consider putting in Rhox Faithmender as a 2 of. He pulls his weight no problem in my sideboard of Esper Control.
What about extort? It will activate angel of thune multiple times
I think its a great idea but its own theme. Blind of obediance Crypt Ghast Treasury thrull
are the best extort cards. I dont see a huge upside to playing more extort cards.
I am drawn to the life gain theme because it can be impossible for aggro decks to overcome and there are cute and clever strategies and synergies to win with:
- If you are 'extorting' then you should, without a doubt, play 4 crypt ghast. With that much mana it makes Debt to the Deathless that much better and makes Vizkopa Guildmage easier to use.
- flingSerra Avatar now you dont have to put red in your deck, just use Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. In this deck we could use a 'reanimation engine' so that unburied rites can be used to 'fling' her earlier.
- Otherwise just playing a bunch of thragtusk, restoration angels, etc. and attacking will get the job done.

had to look up crypt incursion. I think it would trigger only once. I dont like those 5 mana enchantments because they do nothing by themselves and only have a positive effect if life is gain afterward. I prefer the Vizkopa Guildmage over those because it can attack, block and it comes down earlier.
I think there are better cards that the cauldon combo
You could put Unflinching Courage on any other creature and make the same argument. Voracious Wurm basically just isn't good enough on its own. And I'm not sure why you think Brave the Elements works for a mono green creature. I'm just saying that there are better options than Voracious Wurm that should be considered instead.
And yeah, I'm not completely sold on Angelic Accord anymore either.
Doesn't Sanguine Bond have a (rotating out when Theros comes in) complementary card that allows for infinite life gain (and infinite life loss for your opponents)?

Eck! Meant Faith's Shield (other cards are Ready/WillingRootborn Defenses)
Well voracious Wurm isnt good on its own but in a life gain deck (thread name) its is definately worth mentioning. Admittedly though it would have to be a deck that has a lot of creatures with lifelink and "syphoning" effects like Vizkopa Guildmage, and Heroes Reunion would be in that deck.
Making Reunion better would be with the guildmage in play or wurm in hand.
Here's is my take on the deck idea. If you'll notice I removed green almost entirely with the exception of making room for Voice of Resurgence because he stalls so well.
I tried to cut down on cute interactions that I think are either wasteful or too dependent on other cards to be good. Trostani, Selesnya's Voice was an easy cut in my mind. Most of sample decks have zero tokens for her to populate. You're only using half of her abilities and what does it do? Without Vizkopa Guildmage on the field gaining life doesn't advance your plan much.
I included Path of Bravery as a 4 of in the maindeck instead of Trostani. Now gaining life has a goal and a real effect. Gaining life nets you an anthem effect and with Archangel of Thune on the board it can win you the game immediately. I opted for Sanguine Bond instead of Vizkopa Guildmage because although it comes down later and doesn't have a body it's also much more likely to stay on the board and doesn't require a continued mana commitment. Brave the Elements was also a no brainer to me. Nearly every creature in the list is white except Vampire Nighthawk which lets you save your creatures from removal or allow you to punch through to win a game.
Lastly I'd like to find room for some kind of card draw, maybe just in the sideboard, for slower match ups and certainly since the deck is still splashing green Thragtusk is a consideration.

'syphon' 14 with Vizkopa Guildmage or make a 16/16 for only 5 mana.

You are a legend in your own mind!! I've been contemplating revising a deck, adding sanguine bond and debt to the deathless, but I think I like your deck better.
I'm sure there would be a couple more changes creature wise, but I dig it. As long as we don't have to rely on enchantment combo as our only win condition.
This is the deck I put together in a little bit of time.
It's using 2 Arbor Elfs and 2 Avacyn's Pilgrims to let the player decide which they like more (Common argument between me and my friends).
Vizkopa Guildmage & Exquisite blood form an infinite combo, while both being on their own very good. However neither is particularly powerful with more than one in play (Vizkopa Guildmage especially) so only 2 of each are used.
I just want to see if silverblade can be viable in this build, however I don't have high hopes as he's already subpar since some creatures already have first strike.
I chose tribute to hunger over devour flesh because it's an instance of healing, and while I feel if you've stabilized you're probably already going to win in this deck, I don't like the idea of how it would perform against a mirror match.

The synergy between Trostani, Selesnya's Voice and Obzedat, Ghost Council is insane, gaining 7 life every blink, while draining 2 from your opponent.
Every creature in the deck gains you some life in some way, except for the pilgrims, which are necessary because the curve is maybe a bit high.
Deathrite Shaman and Scavenging Ooze prey on graveyard strategies while also being amazing with deadbridge chant. it gives you late-game reach against other midrange decks.
Having a Scavenging Ooze in play with the angel is really good, because exiling a creature gives him 2 counters, while giving counters to all the rest as well.

Sorry - how?
TBD...
You are a legend in your own mind!! I've been contemplating revising a deck, adding sanguine bond and debt to the deathless, but I think I like your deck better.
-4 path to bravery
+1 sanguine bond
+3 debt to the deathless
Find a way to squeeze in elixir of immortality and thragtusk...maybe cut debt to the deathless...
I'm sure there would be a couple more changes creature wise, but I dig it. As long as we don't have to rely on enchantment combo as our only win condition.
2 Arbor Elf
2 Avacyn's Pilgrim
2 Vizkopa Guildmage
4 Fiendslayer Paladin
3 Vampire Nighthawk
2 Silverblade Paladin
2 Archangel of Thune
2 Thragtusk
2 Obzedat, Ghost Council
2 Tribute to Hunger
Sorcery
4 Farseek
2 Exquisite Blood
2 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
More 4 of's
Post Khans Naya Aggro
Cockatrice Tag: K1R1TO
This deck can run the exquisite blood + vizkopa guildmage combo
Blood Baron of Vizkopa must be included.
There's room in it for Sanguine Bond, too
Some versions use Angelic Accord as an alternate win-con.
Archangel of Thune paired with Silverblade Paladin is a real bomb.
