More than tricks, you need wincons and stall so you don't die in the first 4 turns.

You are correct, decking myself way a major concern. That's why elixers are there actually, lol. Don't forget madness cipher is a may cast, not a must cast. Main wincon was shrieking affliction.

You can basically put the combo in any deck that plays the colors. You can play an Esper Delver list that has those 2 cards as the top end, along with stuff like Lingering Souls. Even UB zombies. Conley Woods even made a video series with the esper version.

Interesting! I just saw the 2 cards and thought how well they would synergize!

Yeah Tower is a glaring omission even in Conley's deck.

Tower seems awesome if it's in Theros.. I'm testing most things post rotation =)

I played Conley's version of the deck a few FNM's in a row and while it was a fun deck to play, the wins were inconsistent and the combo was really more of a win-more combo. I haven't had much luck working on the idea since then, as I just shifted to an esper control build without either piece of the combo.

I built two versions of this deck. I'm going to test both to see if I can have some success getting one of them to work at least to some degree.





The goal of these decks is to present a more aggressive take on the Notion Thief combo. The main reason I prefer a more aggressive take is because it helps solve the problem of killing my opponent before I deck myself. Secondly, it allows me to make better use of Whispering Madness, since I can use it for card advantage regardless of if I have Notion Thief on board. If the game goes late, my main wincon is Basilica Screecher + some # of Hidden Strings + Deathrite Shaman; from this I can do 3 damage per hidden Strings per turn, deal 1 additional damge with the attack, and gain 1 life per strings. Hidden Strings also has the advantage of helping me play Notion Thief turn two or flashing Whispering Madness at the end of combat with Quicken.
