I saw this card making appearances in Jund decks and was wondering if it made the cut against control and Midrange, and whether it was SB or MB material over Rakdos' Return.
Sire of Insanity
Creature - Demon
At the beginning of each end step, each player discards his or her hand.
6/4
Pros
- Can be resolved against control via Cavern of Souls
- Gets around Revelation due to them pitching all the cards anyway
- Is able to work against the Midrange mirror due to prevalence of sorcery speed removal aside from cards like Putrefy, meaning they will lose their hand before they can kill it.
Cons
- 6 Mana
- Folds to Unsummon/instant removal effects
- Makes you pitch your hand as well.
I haven't played with it yet, but pre-testing: Card just destroys Esper Control and is actually pretty good against junk rites. The problem is that in pre-testing Junk Rites had better top decks than me (Thrag/resto/Crater/Angel).
I really like this card, but six mana does hurt.
I think I'll go 1-1 main with rakdos return, and a second rakdos return in the side.
the real question here is that does arbor elf belong in this deck anymore?
sire is a beast. if you land him and he sticks he's pretty much impossible to get rid of without top decking the answer you need. His 4 toughness make him very resilient in combat and his 6 power turn him into a huge clock.
Once played, he demands an immediate answer and makes combat tricks and the like completely useless. I'd say at least 80% of the time I've played him in my testing thus far I simply win the game.

Big thanks to DarkNightCavalier from heroes of the planes studios for the sig!
I dropped from 3 RR to 1 in the MB, replacing them with Sire. I've played approximately 20 rounds with Sire in the deck, and haven't played him once. If I have him in my hand, there's always stuff I'd rather play, such as a Thragtusk or Garruk, and by the time I could play Sire, the game is over.
I'm off to a PTQ this weekend, and I'm considering just dropping the Sires all together, because I feel Rakdos's Return is the card I'd rather play, when I've got a hand full of Huntmasters, Tusks, and kill spells. Having said that, I don't think I've played a single control deck in all those MUs, so maybe that's the difference.
That's my tuppence worth.
TL;DR - I haven't played him once, despite having him in hand, because I don't want to drop my hand.
I play 2 Sire, 1 RR, with one more RR in the board. Sire is a good card because in addition to being a card that will make your opponent discard, it's also a clock. You can start swinging with Sire of Insanity and the game is over in a few turns.
Usually when the card is in my hand, if I have more cards in my hand than my opponent I just play those cards instead of Sire (there is no rule saying you have to play the card the second you have 6 mana). Maybe a situation pops up where you have 4 cards and your opponent also has 4 (and you are playing against UWR lets say). You really just have to weigh what's in your hand with what you think they might have... and what is on the table as well. If they don't have a board presence, a 6/4 isn't the easiest thing to deal with. And worst case scenario you are in top deck mode, and your topdecks are far better than theirs.
