Hey guy, here's the list I'll be running tomorrow at FNM. It's prett close to what me and DPaine developed, only I'm MD'ing Flames of the Firebrand since I've noticed I typically side it in almost every game anyways. So, here's my list:
Here's what I'm unsure of. I may cut the Electrickery for Traitorous Blood. Though I really like Electrickery, and it's a very usefull tool against several decks (might as well be our new gut-shot)... But 'Take Control of Target Creature' effects are really the only trump card we have to GW Midranged decks and such.
What do you guys think? Is two of those cards enough, or do I need four?
Hello, all. This is what I'll be trying at FNM this week. Since, I'm walking into an unknown situation, and this is is my first time playing this deck, I have a variety of threats. No, it won't be entirely consistent with the mid to late game, but I like a little bit of variance in my decks. This also allows me to experiment with different creatures and game states.
I anticipate switching from more creatures to more control between matches.
Edited: Changed considerably. Went up to 24 lands for more reliability. Went up to 4 Hellriders, 4 Knights of Infamy, and added 2 Stonewrights to the creatures for more consistency and power. Sideboard changed somewhat by removing Appetite for Brains and adding in another Flames of the Firebrand and moving Rakdos's Return there as well.
I'm still unsure what I'll be facing tonight at FNM, but I feel this should be well positioned against different threats. In any case, I anticipate having a lot of fun playing this.
Also, I think more Mortars would help, and maybe changing Mark of Mutiny to Traitorous Blood would be better since trample is pretty relevant; a trampling stolen Thragtusk is better if it gets blocked.
Stonewright is tons of fun. I strongly recommend him at least a 3 of. Stonewright + any of our 1 or 2 drops can hold off a Thragtusk. The soulbonded guy might not survive but he often trades. And if the opponent fails to block him, you punish him by throwing all your free mana into his dome.
I don't know how many times I have been at 3 lands, stuck for a while. I have 2 stonewrights on board and a cackler and an ash zealot. I hold back a creature or two in case of board wipe and with just those little guys I can wreck havoc. Eventually they draw removal and I can play the bigger hasty guys I have been holding off.
The idea is that this is a Rb aggro deck with midrange expansion. There are 22 Vampires in the deck and if Bloodline Keeper sticks potential for massive numbers. Nothing requires more than one B source. If Stromkirk Captain sticks you can put all the vampires out of tragic slip range. Bump in the Night is your reach and Searing Spear/Pillar of Flame is the burn.
This deck is adapted from Yarpus's suggestion in developing, I switched the Cackler's out for Stonewright since Stonewright + First strike is amazing and potentially all the vampires have First Strike. This is a bit combo and might be nombo as far as Bloodcraced Neonate goes but I am thinking of sleeving it up for some testing.
I wanted 13 B sources but maybe it needs 14. I am on the fence. Recently when playing on MTGO I have been facing more control decks with counter spells, so the Caverns are serving dual purposes and I want 4.
I really like my Stonewright at 2, but that's just preference. He's a decent card, just not my favorite. I cut one to run some Flames of the Firebrand MD.
Also, I've been wrecking decks on Cockatrice. Went 1-2 against a Reanimator because I misplayed with a Stonewright, then all the other games have been 1-0, 2-0 and maybe 2x 2-1's. My list is the same up there, but I changed Electrickery out for Traitorous Blood. Here's what it looks like:
SB is pretty similar to what Dpaine runs, and I think Whimsical too. My SB strategies are similar to what Zemanjaski's from the link in his primer (obviously not the same since my list varies slightly from his).
Sideboarding Plans:
Vs. Mirror- None. Already have Flames MD
Vs. Zombies- -+2x Annihilating Fire, -2x Rakdos Cackler
Think this is what I'm taking to next FNM. Meta is completely unknown as its a new place to me, except that a friend mentioned there was a decent amount of permission and GW decks.

I don't know if I'm trying too much by running both Falkenrath and Hellrider. I know I want thundermaw even if I run just Falkenrath. I tried Conscripts and while amazing, I prefer the directness of Thundermaw.
Sideboard I'm pretty good with, the 1 of Olivia is odd though.
I miss Brimstone, and I might take out the Hellriders for a set of them. I don't know yet though
This is the list i'm testing right now. I recently made a change (that might be undone)
+4 Stromkirk Captain
+4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
+3 Annihilating Fire
-4 Hellhole Flailer
-4 Lightning Mauler
-3 Pillar of Flame
I also considering adding 2 Keyrunes, playing with 22 lands and taking one dreadbore.
I´m doing a bit of mixed bag at 4 drops as I find 4 Riders to many and Aristocrat a brittle and redundant extra flyer in the hammer version, but I like to have something sweeper proof. Keyrunes are amazing vs. Thragtusk and the single RR works very nice as an extra angle of attack.
I really like this list since it has different angles of attack. Dang it. I might have to redo my list to be more like this one, since I really like the balance of creatures and spells here.
Have you playtested this list?

Big fan. Good land base, Keyrunes, good dudes, Rakdos's Return. I like this version.
The only thing I'm iffy on is the 2 Shred-Freaks in the board... they seem very low-impact.

Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
I'm running something very similar, but with 4 Hellrider and 3 Bump in the Night instead of the RR and 1 pillar, 1 spear. Do you find 1 Falkenrath Aristocrat is enough? It's an interesting idea.
What about Rix Maadi Guildmage in place of the Shred-freaks? They would seem to lend themselves to a more controlling style of play.
I think she is too slow because need to much mana to do something, and most of time you will be either casting hasty creatures or leaving the mana open for removal. Also she have no impact when ETB, and probably will be a vanilla 2/2 until turn 5+ unless you don't have anything to cast, wich is the case, you're screwed anyway.
Even for a more controlish version i don't think she fits.
So I just played a bunch of games in the MTGO Tournament practice room with Windstrider's version of the deck, sans Rakdos's Return (mtgotraders was out). It was a lot of fun. I won a good 70% of the games I played, and what I lost was definitely not the deck's fault. Falkenrath Aristocrat worked very well as either a 5th Thundermaw Hellkite or an option play. It came in handy against a GW deck where the board was pretty static and a Hellrider wouldn't have won the game. I'm wondering if it shouldn't be an even split, or cut a land for 2? It would be nice to have a choice.
Remember to use proper deck tags.
When critiquing a deck, remember to make it clear which deck you are addressing, preferably by quoting the post with the decklist.
