A: No, you need a third color to make it viable, GW has no evation and no resilience to anything, and that means you will always lose the race because all the other aggro decks do have either evasion(tempo bounce or burn) or resilience(lifegain or removal).
that means you will always lose the race because all the other aggro decks do have either evasion(tempo bounce or burn) resilience(lifegain or removal).
Plus you get Thragtusk's tokens, Thalia's ability to mess up certain decks, and Garruk for card advantage and even more tokens. Basically, nearly everything in your deck does something more than just provide bodies to throw around at people, and that's not something that should be overlooked. Whether it'll be tier one or not is arguable (it'll probably be tier two), but I think it's pretty obvious it'll be at least good.
I actually think there are IS a tier 1 green deck out there, its just not fully flushed out yet.
I had a lot of success in testing with a gw aggro deck With
Though I just feel like its 50/50 vs zombies... I don't think there's anything that just "WrECKS" that deck except maybe topdeck terminus. Further, its miracle'd terminus I worry about more than anything. However, i suspect my brew needed work... that instead of running acceleration elves.
I should have tried more purist aggro... Shrugh. Its in the air for me still.
GW was at best in midrange or above, the big thing for GW comes from this section since the body of armada wurm, trostani or thragtusk comes from there.
early they would be slaughtered by other color
I've been playing Mono Green for the last 3 months and have lost about 12 matches at very competitive shops, playing an average of twice a week. Unfortunately you don't get to play GSZ and just tutor up whatever you need at the moment, but the creatures are good enough that you should be able to push through most other decks, especially if you splash a little black for Vault of the Archangel.
If you're a good player I really think you can do great things with GW. You'll need to tweak card choices on a very regular basis to keep up with your metagame, but that's true with most decks.
I don't think you auto lose to control at all. The key, like everyone else said, is to not over extend. Thragtusk gives you a dude after he dies. Garruk, Primal Hunter gives you a dude EVERY TURN and lets you draw cards! Triumph of Ferocity gives you lots of cards. Thalia is a pain for them. [car]Rancor[/card] lets you play one dude and beat face until they have to answer it, and then you just play another and drop Rancor on it. T2 Loxodon Smiter with a rancor the next is pretty tough for them to deal with.
Watching SCG early on and GW seems to be lacking against some decks. Still, it is great decent vs. Rakdos Aggro, Zombies, and RDW.

Splashing red might be good, but the manabase would be a lot smoother once GTC comes out. Huntmaster of the Fells is still one of the best 4 drops, and Pillar of Flame, well, everyone knows what that does.
I can't believe anyone is excited about this card. It is absolutely unplayable. I wouldn't even play her in LIMITED. Easily the worst walker printed since the green elf one. Absolutely terrible.
honestly other posts saying that G?W doesn't compete against zombies is rediculous, loxodon smiter stops lotleth troll dead in it's tracks, and silverblade provides the tempo needed to just obliterate them, granted these are both 3 drops and fall victim to abrupt decay but deadbridge goliath can also stop them and it's a four drop. also as previously mentioned, knight of glory evades all removal and is big enough to still cause some serious damage to zombies.
Onto control. GW has so many good value things it's ridiculous but then again it sucks when it's all gone. against control the best sugestion i would have is drop a couple of good 2 drops or 1 3drop to put on the hurt then wait for the board wipe, don't over extend, things like precinct captain and strangleroot geist can put the hurt on by themselves, maybe pump with a rancor then sit back and when they wipe keep going with something bigger like loxodon. basically don't put enough on the field for their supreme verdict to become one of the best value cards in history. if they O-ring it drop another one and keep going. because of the good value of the cards you have it doesn't take alot of stuff to put the hurt on them. make them have to answer everything you have and they'll run out of options especially since they can't snapcaster any of their removal. sometimes it'll work out sometimes it won't just cross your fingers and you'll get through it.
I figured. I still want to see GW go big, but it won't. It just isn't competitive. Answers, guys - there is an answer for EVERYTHING against GW.
I also ran mono-green, which was super powerful...about 1.5 years ago. It's all lacking serious threat right now. Go ahead, put out all the midrange fatties you can - I'll have low cost spells to get rid of every single one of them.
Wolfir avenger has been my tech vs control decks. They cannot deal with flash very well and he survives supreme verdict. Terminus is too unreliable. Next is Acidic slimes bombing lands and detention spheres. I have a sideboard package of 3 avenger and 4 slimes. Games 2 and 3 my GW mid range has destroyed control in every game.
Collective Blessing is 10x better than Armada Wurm. If it resolves every creature is a big threat they have to deal with while they durdle with dig spells.

It's a bummer. I know.
I hope your trolling....
Fact is g/w is great. Yes, you'll have bad matchups....
LIKE ANY DECK WILL.
but it is soooo good against zombies - and can go blow for blow with almost any deck. Sideboarding will be key.
As of right now im rollin with gw. Its gonna be bomb tastic
In my FNM tonight. 3 out of the top 4 decks were gw aggro/midgrange. A couple guys were playing Jund ZOmbies, we had a few UW control, Uw Miracles, GB zombies, GR zombies...etc etc.
In the end GW trumps all, yes including zombies. So the notion that zombies is a bad matchup for GW is simply false. Sorry, to all you zombie fans, but this deck destroys zombies of any kind. The only match-up that was any difficulty was the mirror. Sure, I need another 1-2 Armada Wurm, could use a different combination of SB cards ( was unprepared for some things ). But in the end the life gain is simply overwhelming for aggro decks (including zombies) and it can go blow for blow with pretty much anything I played against. We will see where this goes. With GW dominating our FNM, im sure decks will arise to beat it.

This post is right about card choices. There are always ways around certain archetypes.
I think people will abandon this deck quick cause its not flashy or trendy or mega dominating....
But i do think selesnya is gonna be poweful for a long time. Its what i wanted to play once rtr leaked and im lovin it so far
I feel that g/w is an interesting deck with some good matchup but a lot of horrid ons. G/W isn't that fast. Its creatures are very cost-efficient. However it has no reach, thus with u/w/x miracles, you are dealing wit 6+ wrath after board along with their other removals. Jund also seem really bad as an active olivia means game over. Most people run at least 3 olivia maindeck. G/W is also way too slow against frites. You play out your creatures and attacking. They gain 5 from thragtusk then animates angel and its game.
G/W does feed off zombies and rdw and ww. The matchup is extremely easy to win. Loxodon smiter and centaur healer are extremely hard to get past.
So my opinion, g/w is a meta deck. If you know you field is mostly zombies and rdw and ww, go for it. Otherwise choose a different deck.

Collective Blessing is probably good, but no way its on par with Armada Wurm, let alone being 10x better.

Its not that bad vs miracles actually
Strangleroots, thraggys and avengers can outlast wrath
Thrag is great vs terminus.
With rancor u can deal some hefty damage.
You just gotta play smart and not overcommit
Its a rough matchup in general for a lot of decks gw isnt worse than a,lot of others
But you're threats are some awesome you don't have to overcommit against control. You can ride 1-2 threats pretty hard with Rancor. Strangleroot geist has undying. You have Restoration Angels to flash in after a sweep. You can play Selesnya Keyrune to beat sweepers as well and ramp. You have token producers and Thragtusk. Selesnya midrange is sick.
