See, im really trying to decide between these two decks. Problem is, I dont really have the cash to spend a ton of money on the deck I chose. UW delver is rather expensive, UR delver is not. however, UW delver is more consistant, but im not sure if UR can be atleast competitive.
I am not going to not be going to GPs and opens, but once in a blue moon I do opens. So something thats atleast competitive will be good.
But I wasnt sure if it was just stupid to play UR competively or not now. I like the GP deck alot, but can see where it can be inconsistant maybe. anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
i need something that can win, be affordable to me, be fun to play, and not bea deck that I feel is sub par or second rate. Is UR delver that?

any feedback would be great.
I think in your situation, Uw Delver would be the best choice. Just be prepared for the mirror (a lot of mirrors).

No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now!
I'm looking for a deck that would do well against my meta. Primarily the decks I see most are: planeswalker decks (esper control, junk tokens, and now UW control), tokens (aforementioned junk tokens, BW tokens, an esper tokens), a couple delver decks (not many swords, but pikes), a couple pod decks (BGx glissa) and the odd RG aggro (one Tier 1 list, one homebrew). Is there anything that looks like it would do well against this meta? The main thing I don't have access to is RG aggro stuff - no Huntsmasters, Copperline Gorges, and only one of each sword. What's the best way to beat planeswalkers while remaining competitive against the rest of the metagame?
No, at the time, I meant Uw would be the best. I think you can run Ur decently if you have 2-3 Bonfire of the Damned. Check out Christian Calcano's list (and add another Sulfur Falls LOL).

Alright so I'm a little lost here. I really don't know what to do in T2 anymore. I have a U/W Humans (Pre-avacyn), really great deck but I don't want to bother updating it anymore. It's just not as good with the decks these days compared to G/R aggro, Delvers etc, but that's just my opinion. Around March I started playing Grixis control, following Reid Duke's list. I had a blast playing it but again, I get outraced by super aggro decks which is like 80% of the players around me. I do fine with it, I always make it into top 6 out of 30 people on my FNM. Should I bother with control decks? Is it even worth it? Maybe I'm just terrible at doing my job. So yeah, I wanna try something new. I don't wanna spend a lot more money and I'd rather reuse some of the (expensive) cards in my collection.
Here's what I have:
2x Liliana of the Veil
1x Karn Liberated
2x SoFaF
2x SoWaP
3x Geist of Saint Traft
All Scars of Mirrodin, M12 and Innistrad dual lands.
I was thinking of maybe WRR but I have no experience piloting it. It is still my top choice, 50/50 on decision. I really want to utilize my Swords before rotation though. I think Desperate Ravings and Think Twice spoiled me, I can't imagine playing a deck without them, and sweepers. Keep in mind I just started playing Magic February this year so please don't laugh if I'm very fascinated by those cards.

You could try an Infect deck, G, U/G, B, B/G. They all perform decently well and can catch a lot of people off guard in the current meta of FNM's. Just be prepared to either blowout your opponent or get blown out, but you can't expect too much from decks for under $30.

IMO, WRR is a very easy deck to pilot. Ramp, ramp, ramp, turn 4 drop Titan, fetch Inkmoth and Kessig, turn 5, start swinging. Play sweepers if you have to before you drop the Titan.
Trust me, it won't take long to get the hang of the deck. You'll have a tough time against Delver but should walk over most aggro decks with a good draw.

I've been playing grixis since December and it's a perfectly viable deck. I like reids version of the deck, but I tend more towards the chapin lists. Check his last article. The deck I've been running on cockatrice recently is almost identical to his, and it stomps aggro.
Other options for you since you're in an aggro heavy area is U/W angel delver with 2 SWaP and a maindeck timely reinforcements.
If you don't have many delver decks or control decks in your area, play WRR and you'll probably just crush everyone so long as you have pillar of flame and/or beast within in your maindeck.
The last thing I would suggest is a naya humans deck that Craig Wescoe suggested on TCG player. It runs 4 bonfire of the damneds. It's...really good.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.
Any tips, advice, criticisms, etc. are welcome and appreciated!
I've played like 40 different decks at the last 40 FNMs so I have a lot of experience with home brews.
Junkwalkers took me to a 2nd place finish one night so you could do very well with it depending on what you go up against.
I really think RDW is weak now. I wouldn't try it. However, Goblins could sneak in there and wreck some face. I took mine to 3rd place.
Burning Vengeance could get there but it's a tough deck to play in this meta with aggro being so fast. Essentially, if you don't draw the deck's name sake you're sunk because there is too much durdling.
That's my 2 cents. I'd go with Junkwalkers or Goblins.

Haha last time I went (2 weeks ago) I got beat 5 minutes into the round by Goblins. I was playing a Bantblade build. Granted we smoked before the round started and it was the last round but it was still funny. Thanks for the input

Goblins can get very nasty, very fast. Only 2 guys at our FNM play Goblins and we both did well when we do. He plays more often than I do though.

I'd go with Junkwalkers, but try to change the list a bit. I really don't know what it has in it, but I think that Avacyn's Pilgrim with Day of Judgment may be kind of off. I'm guessing the whole goal is to 2nd turn ramp into 3rd turn 4 drop PW. I would probably take out the 3 Pilgrim for 3 Timely Reinforcements or something like that.
I think Goblins will be more vulnerable than RDW. Every Delver player has 3-4 Timely Reinforcements in their 75 and it hurts Goblins just as much.

This week, I've been torn about whether I should play Delver again (3 weeks in a row) or Esper Control. In my testing, Esper Control has done well vs. Delver. The thing I'm the most scared about is that more often than other decks, Esper Control gets mana screwed. The mana base is probably the most clunky in Standard. I am running the 3 Sun Titan/3 Phantasmal Image version.
I finished 4-1-1 and 5-1 with Delver so that probably is the way to go. However, both losses were to Delver (2-2 vs. mirror), so Esper could be the way to go. There was a lack of RG Aggro and Humans last week, so I feel like Esper would have good matchups.
The "potential bannings" influence me too. I feel like nothing will be banned, but I've been wrong before. Either, I want to try Delver again before something is banned or play Esper Control to beat Delver before the number of Delver players is diminished because of bannings.

Hey guys I'm looking for some ideas on what to play at FNMs.
I prefer control or combo, but I'm willing to play aggro if it plays with interesting cards or has a neat gimmick.
I have a budget but its not too strict. Snapcasters, Tamiyo, Bonfire, etc. are out of the question. I also don't want to be investing in somewhat expensive cards that are going to be rotating out such as the scars lands.
I know my requirements are tight, but any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If no bannings, more practice is always good.
If bannings, everyone will have to adjust anyway from a starting point of unknown meta.
Would enjoy some points on what to start playing. I left a couple weeks after Innistrad came out and assembled a G/W Tokens deck. I think my favorite part was that I was constantly playing spells and dictating pace. I'm looking to get back into Magic, I sold my collection before I relapsed so something on the lower end of the budget would be nice. Basically want a deck where I'm very active, not a lot of turn passing but at the same time I want something fun.
There's a PTQ nearby this weekend and I need to know what to play. My choices are in my sig, which is also my blog. I'm really leaning towards my boardsweep deck or my Mono-black deck, but would like more opinions. Respond here or send me a message, or just comment on the decks.
Help! Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I don't think any of those decks are going to do well in this meta. If those are your only options I don't have a suggestion. However, if they are not your only options, I recommend one of the following:

Naya Pod

Well, I've been testing them against most of these decks, specifically delver, pod, flare and WRR. Each has had some good success dealing with these matchups, with a few matchups being unfavorable (every deck has it's anti-deck). I really don't have other options, I prolly have some or most of the cards needed for a few of the decks, but I'd rather play something closer to my heart than my wallet.
That being said, I laid out my options and asked which one other people would go with, not what I should build because my decks can't stand up to the meta. I'm tired of the meta excuse anyway. So which one should I go with, what do you like the most for the sake of being competitive?

That being said, I laid out my options and asked which one other people would go with, not what I should build because my decks can't stand up to the meta. I'm tired of the meta excuse anyway. So which one should I go with, what do you like the most for the sake of being competitive?
