This Deck is basically just a GB Value Creature Deck very simple as long as pod gets online. So if you guys could give me some suggestions on how to build into that, id greatly appreciate it. Things I plan to add soon are Garruk Relentlessand Elixir of Immortality to the SB to reload my library since control decks in my local meta. Also consideringSurgical Extraction instead of Praetor's Grasp. Also considering splashing either white or blue. Id really like to go three colors but am not sure how should I should go about it. Any suggestions with the deck will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. By the way, I took down my local fnm with this friday only dropping two games the whole night It was only a twenty man fnm.
Thoughts? Has trouble with Wild Defiance Infect decks
Something is bugging me, and came up in my testing. Can I sac Fume Spitter to put a -1/-1 counter on my Geralf's to allow him to reactivate undying? I know I read somewhere that a creature with undying activated doesn't get that undying cancelled if a -1/-1 counter is put on him, but I can't remember where.

That does work, my little trick in B/R zombies was to sac it reset the counter then tragic slip my own messenger and then brimstone them to to win ha. Only work sum times but sacing spitter in response to removal on geralf when he is a 4/3 works well.

Seems... broken. They're different counters, one is a -1/-1 and one is a +1/+1. Oh well, if that's the ruling then I'll certainly abuse it

U can also black sun's zenith for 1 to reset ur undying ha. It's not broken just how the interaction works. Also I used Carnifex demon in testing with undying to reset my undying dudes ha. Counters cancel each other out so when it has a plus one on it the spitter clears it that's his main purpose in the deck is to reset stuff.
How was leak&captain?I really worried the mana might be to tight to tap/untap...
It's fine if you plan ahead what you're going to do. I feel like playing the mana leak MD can surprise some people game 1. You could at least bluff them out, make them play around counter magic lol.
Captain can serve multiple roles IMO. Untapping Pod multiple times doesn't seem fair. You can stop one of their guys from attacking (maybe something with sword or that has been soulbound). If they are land cut on a color, tap it during upkeep. I had my Vorapede tapped from my own stolen Frost Titan (Zealous Conscripts), but I just untapped it and swung for lethal lol.
I would also like to mention that Todd Anderson and David McDarby both played RUG Pod @ SCG Nashville. This mention is just to add more decklists into the discussion.

Both of them did't finish well...imo rug build is too rely on specific plan that need multiple key cards
In fact I found RUG's early game is awkward .....sometimes you can do aggro when you have some nice draw, but most of time you are on the defensive end... and your win con usually can't help the board situation in time....
New to the forums and just wanted some advice on my B/G Pod deck... having mixed results with it so far... some nights ill go undefeated at FNM, and some nights i wont win a round. The meta is pretty diverse with some top tier decks seeing play and some homebrews that often rival the top decks... well anyway, here is the decklist. Let me know what you would add/subtract
As a side note... being my first post... whoever sees this first... PLEASE tell me how to fix the decklist formatting.... I remember seeing a post on it before but cant seem to find it now

Deck tags automatically do the card tags. So just leave the explicit card tags out and it looks like the above list.
One thing I can never understand is why the BG lists I see have such bad mana. I mean, they have fewer T1 green sources than a Junk (BWG) deck does, due to Razorverge Thicket. Is this just a budget constraint? When people have access to better cards/more money they move past BG?

Sorry but I don't care whether they finished first or last. I was just trying to gather more ideas and insight as to playing RUG Pod. As I stated earlier, I mentioned them only to [possibly] get more lists into the discussion as I am intrigued in playing something different from the norm. I do apologize as I should have just posted their list instead of names, but I figured it's not that hard to look these kinds of things up.
Here's their decklist for reference. They had SB a little different but the only MD difference was +1 GSZ -1 Forest.
I do see your point about the early game could be awkward and being on the defensive end. I guess maybe it could depend on your build. In looking at various RUG Pod builds, it seems there are a few spots to play around with and put whatever you want. Should I be more controlling with mana leaks, fixing with ponder, or maybe removal (bonfire, vapor snag)? I am also considering another wolf run over the refuge. Thoughts?
The RUG builds look very intersting. They do go a long way to solving the 'must play Huntmaster and Phantasmal Image' dilemma I have been facing. But Blade Splicer and Elesh Norn are just so good....
Here's the cards that I think should DEFINITELY be included at least as one-ofs.
1CC: BoP, Elves
2CC: SRG, Images
3CC: Borderland, Exarch, Daybreak
4CC: Huntmaster, Solemn, Metamorph
5CC: Slime, Conscripts
6CC: Inferno
Spells: Pod, GSZ
magicmerl - I agree with that, except Silverheart. I think this guy is pretty amazing. Sure it's soulbound tricks that can fall prey to bounce or removal. But if they don't have it you get small guy supersized and an 8/8 wall that can attack. Even worse copy and double soulbound for 12/12's lol.
Yeah, you could be rights. He just seems really poorly placed against Vapor Snag / Oblivion Ring / Fiend Hunter. And a poor target to pod into or away from.
Do you really think he's good in the current meta? Or after Vapor Snag rotates out?
One thing I can never understand is why the BG lists I see have such bad mana. I mean, they have fewer T1 green sources than a Junk (BWG) deck does, due to Razorverge Thicket. Is this just a budget constraint? When people have access to better cards/more money they move past BG?
How would you improve that mana base? There's no B/G Scars dual as far as I know.
How would you improve that mana base? There's no B/G Scars dual as far as I know.
There are several ways of improving the manabase.
Let C be a colour of mana. In general, you want/need the following number of sources:
10 for C
14 for CC
18 for CCC
1. But you want more than for green mana to show up sometime. You want to have it on turn 1. That means more than 10 T1 green sources. Ideally, 14. Any less than this and you are 'cheating'.
3. Cull the non-green CC cards (things like Skinrender and Morkut Banshee) until only the absolute bombs remain. For BG, that is Sheoldred and Grave Titan (that are good enough). And *nothing* else.
4. Cut all of the CCC cards. Bye bye Mikaeus. Bye Bye Massacre Wurm. Bye bye Reaper. Bye bye Messenger. Don't run cards that you can't hardcast, since even when you do, you will have manascrew some of the time.
Once you are finished with that exercise, you may find that there's very little reason to retain the black (basically just glissa), particularly when compared to what blue (image) white (splicer, elesh) and red (huntmaster) offer.
Hello, below is my pod deck. It was really only meant for casual play, but I kinda wish to go to FNM soon, so I would like some help so that I would not get absolutely thrashed. =0
1.The two matchups you should prepare for are Delver and Wolf-Run. The other two matchups you should prepare for are Tokens and GR aggro. In terms of your sideboard that means things like Daybreak Ranger, Corrosive Gale, Acidic Slime, Wolfir Silverheart, Ratchet Bomb, Stonehorn Dignitary.
2. Venser looks like a powerful card, but I wonder if it might be better to run a more flexible card in that slot (that you can cast early as well as late). Specifically, Green Sun's Zenith can act as an additional 'pod' effect.
3. Huntmaster of the Fells is incredible. Get one.
4. Gavony Township is freaking incredible. I would run 2 of it before I run the first wolfrun.
5. Beast Within seems naff. I think I would rather have Fiend Hunter as a tutorable removal spell.
6. Elesh Norn seems a little better than Gisella.
It has this nifty combo built into it:
Turn 1 ((P/G)(P/G)GG2): Cast Strangleroot Geist > Deceiver Exarch (untap Pod) > Solemn Simulacrum
Turn 2 ((P/G)(P/G)(P/G)3): > Zealous Conscripts (untap Pod) > Sun Titan (return Deceiver Exarch, untap Pod) > Elesh-Norn, Grand Cenobite
Things I am less sure about:
1. Abundant Growth instead of GSZ. (and the 4th Growth over the 4th Elf)
2. Only 2 Blade Splicer
3. Dubs Restoration Angel. Surely you only need one?
4. Only 1 plains. I really want 2 for the times when my deck wants to hardcast fatties.
You're right of course that Celestial Purge is better than the above, but Zombies is less played than the other decks, so that's why I'm unsure about how much I can sacrifice there, and thus looking for multipurpose cards. Or perhaps I should just have less of these "jack of all trades, master in none" and more focus.
Yeah. I've found that I generally don't want to screw with my MD too much (since Pod as a deck seems to be all about having memorised your decklist, and that's correspondingly harder if you make wholesale changes for G2). So I think that the SB should be cards that are quite narrow and quite awesome vs their respective opponents.
Basically I have 3 cards vs Tempered Steel, 3 vs Zombies/MonoR, 3 vs ramp/control, 3 vs Delver, 3 vs Tokens. Possibly I should cut the replica for another anti-Delver card (or even another Huntmaster)
Oy guys! Finally found this thread again. A report from june 9:
This weekend I played a similar list at a PTQ with lesser results, after a 4-0 start I ended up going 5-3, after being paired against zombies 3 times in a row! (Even though the surrounding tables were full of other decks, so unlucky) Blood Artist is such a pain, shutting down even Elesh (and unfortunately I never got to Angel of Glory's Rise. One time I had 7 mana and Elesh on hand, but would die from the Artist triggers. If only that was the Angel).
Depending on if there are any bannings, I need to figure out how to improve the Zombies MU, without sacrificing effectiveness against Control (Solar Flare and Miracles), Delver and Naya Pod, which are the most-played decks around here.
Any advice on cards that are good against zombies and also one of those three?
The only one I can think of off the top of my head is gut shot. It is effective against delver, blood artist and can take out BoP in naya pod but it does absolutely nothing against the control matchup.

Some thoughts on the RUG build:
There are several cards in there that are really not worth it. Priest of Urabrask, Vorapede, Wolfir Silverheart, Primeval Titan, Deadeye Navigator are all a bit marginal IMO.

I'm thinking like this:
Archetype:
Expected proportion of meta:
Weak MD cards:
Strong SB cards:
How favoured we are in the matchup:
Total cards SB'd:
I think it's probably worth doing this for Delver, Wolf Run, GR aggro, Solar Flare, Zombies, BW Tokens, MGA. Yes?
