this guy is a piece of crap. he dies to murder like any other creature. so whats the big deal?
Well, almost ANYTHING dies to murder. (Yeah, I know, Giest of Saint Traft) but that isn't really a fair argument. Its like saying: "Tarmogoyf is a piece of crap! He dies to Murder!" Just saying.

I just bought a pack for the fun of it (I usually never buy Core products) and ripped this silly Dragon, would it be a safe move to trade it at $15 bucks...or do I hold it until it finds a solid home?

I played in a PTQ this weekend, I saw really none of these being played. I think the card is all hype, but I don't play aggro decks so I really don't know how good he is, never played against dragon. The GR decks I played against, I just rolled them, I'm sure they had dragon in the deck but they didn't draw it. I was playing Solar Flare.

Yeah, he's a beast but not until the titans and removal are gone meaning post-rotation. No doom blade, go for the throat, celestial purge, dismember, etc. Yeah he'll find a home after that.
Red got a good mythic, and it's one that definitely is a force to be reckoned with. Yeah, we have Silklash Spider, and that's awesome. Let's not forget Stingerfling Spider...Eaten by Spiders...Plummet just to name a few green answers to this bad boy.
I saw the Thundermaw get played against Tokens today. It was a solid shut out, the guy lost EVERY Spirit token, and his board presence went from something to nil. It blew my mind. Post-rotation, I think the card will be better.

Those cards you just listed are not reasons to not play the Dragon. You can't list a bunch of green sideboard cards as answers to a threat..
I want to see this guy work with restoration angel and possibly silverheart, especially after pod rotates. Some kind of nasty naya ramp/aggro with ravnica tutors. As for now I think he's a 15$ mythic bomb for multiple decks. He's stuck somewhere between 'not that good' and 'amazing'.
