I've just started to get back into magic so I don't have a deck sleeved for tournaments, seems like UR is a lot better than UW though. Want to feel out the forum before I start ordering the cards.

Yea good question, I would also like to know. I am sleeving this up for SCG Orlando for Day 2.

U/R delver would be great but the manabase is bad. There's a big difference between 4 dual lands and 8 especially when the U/w deck is running 8 duals to support 1 creature and 1 land in game 1. The U/R deck wants both mana available for use on turn one and that's only possible via cavern of souls which restricts the utility of your spells which also need both colors to work.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.
I really don't like geist, that's the whole reason I want to go UR
Seems like geist doesn't get you out of bad situations, just speeds up your clock
Using burn can substitute that effect but can also clear the way for attackers
I havn't decided on a list, just looking at the pool it seems really saucy. Anyone have experience playing UR lately?
Edit:
Goldfishing has suggested a shaky mana base, but I recall when I was far more avid in oddy with UG madness have 0 duals, it played 3ish City of Brass and then just an island/forest split and got by fine.
The pool is pretty big, I'm sure focusing on blue turn 1 shouldn't be a problem
EEEK sorry, was not thinking when I posted, I was still in my Legacy mindset, that is what I am taking for legacy ... U/R Delver sorry guys.
.... and yea what the one guy said, U/R is owned by U/W. In Standard, at least for right now U/R simply is not a good enough deck to play in serious events.
how does everyone feel about using shimmering grotto to kinda smoothen the manabase? i know its a bit mana intensive but being able to make both colors seems good (in theory at least)

Shimmering Grotto is an awful choice for a two-color deck, and it's attempting to fix a bad manabase with more bad mana. You're better off with Island or Mountain. Heck, even Evolving Wilds is better, since that gets you the color you need after a turn, gives you fodder for a Grim Lavamancer, and can allow you to do things like draw off a Ponder, then shuffle.
Not sure if his list just took the field by surprise, the format is still up in the air, or if the list is really good. Bonfire of the Damned is inherently good and can win matches on it's own, seems like the cornerstone of the deck. I'm surprised at the lack of any maindeck countermagic but love the 12 cantrips to plow through the deck.
I plan to try a similar list on Friday, but with a lot less one of's...
Fired up the deck on cockatrice, mashed some matches against stock delver, hero delver, and it definitely wins the mirror. The sideboard is by far the best thing about the deck and I wouldn't touch that till after playing a bunch of games.
The one of's of I mostly agree with. Incinerate kills wolfir avenger without letting it regen, gal blast is an instant to give you more play though pillar of flame is better in a lot of situations hence the 3/1 split. Devil's play is a great card that more red decks should play especially one with 12 cantrips(The first place I'd look to trim). 12 means that you have the potential to flood and DP lets you sink mana into it. I'd probably want another phantasmal image in the main so that you don't get owned by GoST.

Pillar is good, and Bonfire is amazing, but in terms of straight-to-the-face burn, there's nothing that special right now. Incinerate is just decent, Brimstone Volley has proven too inconsistent, and Thunderous Wrath is even less consistent than Volley.
Calcano brought the deck and caught a lot of people by surprise with it. The deck will not remain on top. I am not trying to talk down about a deck you seem to love so much. I fell in love with it a while back but it just would not work. Now maybe with the new set the deck might become competitive but will it keep winning big events? I would say no. Maybe it proves me wrong but I do not see it.

You do have a point. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
But I built this deck (card for card) on cockatrice and I liked how it played out, bonfire of the damned is damn good card. I also like the titans in the board as well. However, I did get flooded often.
I think I'm gonna stick with uw for now unless this variant starts to dominate
I think a solid UW delver deck would destroy this deck to be honest. This deck seems too inconsistent and there are too many things that counter it. This deck won because it tears up RG Aggro usually and everyone has been playing that.

i tested jace tonight and its one of the worst planeswalkers. it never really does anything except make u lose. i suggest u sell yours for 17 each like i did.
then again on valakut
ROFL what? Valakut? The best card in standard is Jace the mind Sculptor
hm.... interesting.
Haters gonna hate on my jank decks.
I tried to make U/R Delver work for so long online (since I own no Geists online), but I consistently got my butt kicked by the U/W version. U/W has a lot more staying power.
I think Bonfire is what makes UR a real deck. It wasn't quite good enough before Bonfire, but even a couple copies of that card seem to change the deck's power level. Bonfire just kills aggro and UW Delver in one shot.

Bonfire is a great card, but as mentioned earlier, the mana base is just a bit off. I honestly think adding a third color would make this stronger. I'm thinking either U/W/r or U/R/b would honestly give more options, for both spells, and multi lands.
Adding a third color wouldnt ever add more stabilization unless it's green. Just because you get the third color and you get to add more duals, it doesn't make it more stable. If you have 8 UW, and 8 UB lands as opposed to 8 UW lands but you could just replace the UB lands with islands and take out black. More consistent. So no, 3 colors wouldn't work for delver.

UW > UR period in my opinion
moorland haunt, Geist of Saint Traft, and much better sideboard options for more match ups.

PM me if you want to play.
Here's the link to the thread in Standard Deck Creation for UR Tempo. I'd suggest looking there for better responses.

I was testing heavier burn though, relying on creatures to win seems a little unnecessary when standard has the best burn cardpool in a very long time

Killing their mana dorks worked for me. Stall them out so they can't play titan until turn 6 (and have a mana leak waiting).
