Used W/B tokens. Only drew once against a venser/flick lockdown deck. Took it all the way to time.
Played in no order -Grixis control (smashed that, both games unmemorable)
-RGw agro, was a tough game but fliers were able to get the damage through.
-flicker deck (draw, long and boring)
-Cant remember my 4th game even though it was literally 2 hours ago.
I was running R/G/b WolfRunRamp (apparently, I'm not allowed to post my decklist... just use your imagination, I guess):
I lost to a Miracle deck last night at FNM, so I re-tuned my deck and with the addition of Sever the Bloodline in the sideboard, I was triumphant today. I only dropped two games. Go For The Throat (maindeck) was great, taking down creatures that my deck shouldn't be able to take down, killing a Champion of Lambholt (with 7 power), a Champion of the Parish that was out of Slagstorm range, a Hero of Bladehold, a Primeval Titan, and an Angel token. The real all-star was Sever the Bloodline. Against the Miracle deck, I landed a turn 3 Thrun and attacked 4 times, bringing him to 4, before he Miracled an Entreat the Angels. I untapped, played Sever the Bloodline and killed his whole team and attacked for the win. I exiled Strangeroot Geists, and against one opponent, took down multiple Avacyn's Pilgrims, making him unable to stop a lumbering Primeval Titan.
At one point today, I got up to 42 life between Batterskull, Huntmaster, and Glimmerpost, and a spectator just happened to walk by and asked, "Is that a Primeval Titan equipped with a Batterskull? You're my hero for doing that."
Cavern of Souls was only relevant once, but it was pure gold when it was. It was pretty obvious my opponent was sitting on counters, but I was able to play a turn 5 Primeval Titan from Cavern of Souls, then a turn 6 Primeval Titan, and even a board sweeper at that point wouldn't save him, as I had lethal from Inkmoth Nexus.
Ended up bringing Esper Superfriends and went an unspectacular 1-2-1. Lost to a play mistake and GR swords. A well earned lesson that the deck needs more card draw to ensure its turn 3-4 delaying tactics.
i got first witch was a surpirse in my mind i just brough a white argo deck honor hero of blade hold thalia champion ect the main thing that got me the win was mirrand crusader and anglic densty also a a realy big winer that got me into the final match is i was playing aginest blue green with loots of beef/control and turn two thalia just recked his face because he ended up paying an extra one for everything ponder for two and my fav is probe me for 2 life and one mana
Took my RUG Ramp deck. Went 3-1. Only lost to UW Delver. Partially because I made a misplay and then he top decked a dungeon giests to tap down my titan I was going to swing for the win next turn with.
Brought my UW Delver deck to Gameday. I got 2nd out of 8 people (not many were there) and we only played 3 rounds. I won against Mono-White Humans, Blue-White Spirits (kinda janky), and lost against GW Humans.
I blew out the Spirits deck first game, won the second with 1 land, landing 2 delvers and flipping them both and wiping his field with Corrosive Gale when he began to get some board presence.
Mono-White Humans was really close. First game I did the same thing with 2 delvers, and second game he slammed me with Champion and Gideon. Third game took a really long time. He got a nice board position set up, with two champions (one of them massive) and Silverblade Paladin. All I had was Geist + a flipped delver on my side. He was still at 15+ life and I was at 5. Through a lot of Snapcaster tricks involving Vapor Snags and Champion trades, I managed to reduce his board presence and whittle him down to low life with my delver. Then I pulled out Moorland Haunt and starting making Spirit tokens to chump block, and my Geist + Delver got there.
GW Humans was terrible. I lost 0-2, both games he pulled out Champion and Gather the Townsfolk T1 and T2. I wasn't drawing into any snags, so I was blown away, especially second game where he got out a Champion of Lambholt and pumped it with more Gather the Townsfolk. To be honest, I figured I was screwed. Last night at FNM I knocked him out of 3rd place with Faith's Shield's Fateful Hour, so he was gunning for me today. I was running the same deck- I honestly don't think there was much I could change to make the matchup better at all.
Kinda sad that I didn't get first for the playmat, but I guess I can't have it all. Traded my boosters in for a Scalding Tarn and picked up an Aether Vial for $9, so it wasn't too bad. Plus, I had some great fun, even against GW Humans.
At one point today, I got up to 42 life between Batterskull, Huntmaster, and Glimmerpost, and a spectator just happened to walk by and asked, "Is that a Primeval Titan equipped with a Batterskull? You're my hero for doing that."
Sounds like something I'd say, except I'd probably ask if you wanted to have sex right there on the spot.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
I played my B/W/r Tokens deck and went 3-1-1, getting into the top 8 then losing to the person who got first. I won against a Venser deck, a U/B Grand Architect, a B/W tempo homebrew, drew to Spirit Delver, and lost to another Venser deck which I lost to thanks to mana problems. Then I lost to Delver in the top 8.
I was actually surprised at the amount of Venser/Blink decks. I sided in two Topor Orbs at the last second, but never actually drew them. Also I love playing tokens because almost no one plays it in my meta, and its been doing fairly well.
2-1 vs UB Control Game two here was a fantastic back and forth slog, game three was a turn 4 Silverheart attached to a Skinshifter, he scooped shortly thereafter.
2-0 vs WB Tokens Easy takedown
2-0 vs UR delver Again easy takedown, my particular setup bears delver and it's ilk particular ill will. !@$# Delver.
2-1 vs Heartless Lich. I've played this deck so many times, and I should have a fantastic matchup against it, but every time it's pilot manages to slip by a Consecrated Sphinx when I run out of hate. Got lucky here.
2-0 vs Human/metalcraft. Blowout. I'm designed to beat decks like this.
Not bad, not bad I'd say.
As an extra note, the all star MVP of my deck tonight was Ulvenwald Tracker. A one drop that says kill me, or I will haunt you the entire game.
Took down Gameday with UW Angel Delver after going 4-1 in swiss. Got paired down in round 5 and had to actually play the match to make top but won anyway.
R1 - 2-0 B/W Tokens
R2 - 1-2 Solar Flare-ish deck
R3 - 2-1 G/W Township Aggro
R4- 2-0 B/W Tokens
R5 - 2-0 Naya Pod
Qtr - 2-0 R/G Aggro
Semi - 2-1 Solar Flare-ish deck from round two
Finals - 2-1 Wolf Run Ramp
6:0 1st place with UB Control Game Day 5/26
(14 players) which is unusually low..
Rnd 1- 2:1 vs MB Demons - this was one of the harder match ups. powerful and resilient creatures.. and a few lucky resolves when I didn't draw counters.
Rnd 2- 2:0 vs MB Demon maker / Spot removal / edict - I resolved early game curse to kill off all his reassembling skeletons, rats, blood artists. leaked big creatures.
Rnd 3- 2:0 vs UW Humans- kept big creatures in check. blew up moorland haunts. laid down curse. He scooped up 20/20 life totals. Game 2 he got me to 6 health.. scooped after I Tamiyo ultimate.
Top8- 2:1 MB Demons again.. same general strategy. game 3 I resolved t6 and t7 wurmcoils while we were on turns. turn 4 I countered a 5/5 demon blocker making him scoop before the turn 5 kill.
Top4- 2:0 MD MB Demon maker / Spot removal / edict again! Same strategy.. He resolved a worldslayer and I made his creatures 0/1 and kept him in check. Once I got to 8 loyalty counters on Tammy.. he scooped
Top2- UW Humans again!!...... He conceded.
I played in a Game Day today, surprisingly only 8 people playing. I was running UR Delver, similar to Calcano's GP-winning list. We played 3 rounds of Swiss, then cut to top 4.
Round 1: Bant deck that was milling itself. Not sure what it was really going for, since it never really managed to get its action going, beat it 2-0 easily.
Round 2: RBW Reanimator with Gravecrawler, Lingering Souls, Elesh Norn, and Craterhoof Behemoth. His deck was kind hit-or-miss, and Pillar of Flame did great work against Gravecrawler. He got me in a tough G2, but I took G3 for the match win.
Round 3: Intentional Draw into T4.
Top 4: Wolf Run Green with Dungrove Elder and Cavern of Souls. I had no answers for that combination, and got 2-0'd easily. In hindsight, it's possible I could have played/boarded better, but bottom line it was a bad matchup and he was getting better draws. Would have been very difficult to win even with better play.
So, no playmat, but I got my promos, got a bit of store credit, and got a little more experience running UR Delver. It's clear that the deck has potential, and it's fun to play. Some better tech against WRR could really take it to the next level, I think. Also did a bit of trading, met some people, and generally had a fun time.
Took first at my game day a goblins list i threw together before the tournament. No one ever sees it coming, although the metagame at the store I chose to play at was fairly rogue.
Played B/W Tokens. Went 5-0 (at 10-1-0 for games), beating Mono Green Aggro, W/R/g Humans, U/W Spirits, Four-Colour Miracle, and U/W Control. The single game loss was to Miracle.dec recurring its Entreat the Angels one more time than I could handle. The Avacyn playmat officially replaces my old one, and Geth EDH gets the Killing Wave as a shiny new toy.
Sever the Bloodline in my sideboard was a pretty good call given that three of those five decks played Entreat the Angels. Also red splash for Rally the Peasants flashback resulted in multiple "whoops, I guess I win" blowouts. Going almost totally undefeated is kind of amusing given that the exact same deck went 2-2-1 at FNM merely two days prior, but such is Magic.
