I'm surprised to have not seen a thread for her by now. A potentially amazing card, with some obvious synergy with cards like Frost Titan, Dungeon Geists, and Deceiver Exarch. She looks best in a control shell, but as a midrange card she could see play; acting as a Frost Titan turn 5 that can draw cards? Yes please.
I had her in my sealed pool at prerelease. You know how when you draft/sealed and you get a Planeswalker, that Planeswalker generally wins you the game? Yeah, I wasn't getting that feeling so much with Tamiyo. I resolved her in like, probably almost every game I played, but I rarely won because of that. Usually she'd just die.
I think a part of that was that the environment was very hostile towards Planeswalkers there. Almost everyone was playing a very aggro-y Boros humans build (and who can blame them, the boros commons are really good) so her mini frost breath wasn't that helpful against a field with like 5+ dudes that had their sights set on her. I almost always just -2'd her for card draw.
In constructed she'll likely make a splash. Her -2 is pretty strong. Especially if you're playing control in an aggro matchup. Most of their dudes are sideways most of the time without you provoking it. Game 2 she'd probably get sided out for something faster, but I don't think she'll be terrible against midrange and tempo.
I got to play with her in my sealed pool, WUb. Primarily a stall deck with a few unblockables. I had an easy time defending her even against boros decks until i either won with unblockable damage or i got her ult off. Vanishment+Emblem are easy GGs as your opponent won't draw anything else against aside from what you want them to.
I dont see her making a splash in constructed right now, far too slow for the current standard format. Hopefuly post-rotation the format will be slow enough for control to make an entrance.
Does not work very well in limited mainly due to lots of aggro and soulbond (usually two creatures have the ability). Does work well in constructed in a control deck with when paired with gideon jura for ridiculous card draws (think back when we joked that gideon was jace's bodyguard vs. jund). Tamiyo can protect herself to boot which is nice.
Well, the pros dont agree with me that tamiyo is kinda a bit powerful in the current meta. Think about it, assuming you turn 4 DOJ and they dont have undying creatures, you follow this as a turn 5, tap a creature/land. THen by turn 6 you either resolve a gideon or another walker or heck, another frost titan. It'll slow down tempo by a large margin. THough of course she isnt really good versus delver. =__=
I can see her be quite the power house if the creature heavy meta do come true.

delver is a good card but by the time you play her you should already have killed that delver or at least got it taped down. pluse her +1 abllity keep's delver from ever swinging.
there's a combo i'm trying to get where you get to use her last abllity and play zombie infestation. at the end of turn make over 100000000000 zombies then swing. the deck is a B,W,U. i'm still working on the deck right now. i'll post a list on deck creation after i finish makeing the deck.

Because those cost mana? Not that Tamiyo + Zombie Infestation will ever work in a real tournament, but I would imagine that's why over things that cost mana.
Before I make this comment I want you all to understand that I see the synergy between these two cards but I just don't think they're worth it.
I'm talking about Gideon Jura and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage. Most of the time Gideon will take a couple hits and then hit the bin and that's fine because it buys me a couple turns but he just seems so weak in this environment.
Tamiyo's -2 reads "Draw a card for each tapped creatures TARGET player controls"
so why am I going to leave it up to my opponent to play creatures and attack with them? I want to be the one bashing and drawing cards! And what card lets me do that? Lingering Souls!
I'm going to see if Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is a better fit alongside Tamiyo
The way I see it, Sorin puts tokens into play that buy you time but more importantly, THEY CAN ATTACK! This allows me to put down up to 5 creatures into play a turn (Souls + Flashback and Sorin's +1)! His -2 is pretty good but it's his ultimate that's what's making me see if they'll fit. Tamiyo can tap down troublesome dudes and if Sorin gets to ultimate, they're mine!
I'm still going to play Gideon caz he's awesome but I'm not drinkin' the koolaid.
Tamiyo's synnergy with Giddeon is astounding. But the best part about her is the simple line, "Draw a card for each tapped creature target player controls.". Using her -2 on yourself after a turn 3/4 Lingering Souls is devastating. Drawing that many cards against the mirror is GG.
I kind of like the idea of her with an Esper Heartless build. Dropping a turn 3 Lili, turn 4 Frost Titan, and then turn 4 Tamiyo seems like a good way to control someones board. then again though, I just enjoy heartless in general.
If her ultimate goes off and you have things in your hand, you win. It's as simple as that. Unless you're starting down some crazy board position, you win. Infinite DOJ? Yes, please.

I have seen a couple games where her ultimate was able to go off, but the guy was so far behind on board position that he wasn't able to catch up. His opponent just dropped threat after threat. Bear in mind, this wasn't the best constructed deck, but something to remember.
I've experimented with Tamiyo in a delver deck and it's been relatively awesome. Being able to attack with a couple dudes, dropping tamiyo post combat and refiling your grip is pretty insane.
In RUG ramp she's also performed admirably. The best use for her is stalling really. When you have no titan or sweeper, tamiyo holds down the fort for a couple of turns. Being across the table from her gideon and lingering souls...yeah that's pretty good to. Tamiyo is probably going to make waves.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.
So i'm running her as a 2 of in my U/W Control deck. And I have gotten her -8 off before yes you win the game but i have never been in a place I need to get to this off or I lose because it simply win more. Counters for days, DOJ for days etc etc etc. But getting it off means you have expended a lot of cards to protect her, or there board state is lacking massively.
To be honest I really really like her -2. I don't use it that often but when paired with Gideon its a tidings at worst, but more often then not its drawing 4-7 cards.
I like her +1 the most, tapping down a land at worst, taping down the largest non-hexproof guy on the board has some advantages.
But all and all, I feel that Tamiyo, while powerful doesn't have the impact to be more than a 2 of main board in a control shell.

I will utilize her in some form of U/G deck that sees her getting to -8 as fast as possible and playing Fog over and over again, I swear I will make it work.
And then I will get punched in the face by my opponent for it.

Guess its not as bad as Gideon, he is so anti creatures its dumb
I played 2 Gideon and 1 Tamiyo (all I had) in UW control at FNM, and it rocked the house every time it hit the table. Using Tamiyo to tap the biggest threat and having Gideon absorb the rest puts aggro in quicksand.
She was played against me last night at FNM. She's the real deal. Between using her +1 to tap down my creatures and -2 to draw cards, my opponent was drawing up to five cards every few turns. It was crazy.

I guess time will tell if she's as good as the hype surrounding her.

well costed value for mana card.
Not especially powerful but very versatile.
she isn't a build around me card like lillana or tezzeret or venser or koth are.
she is more like gideon or garruk relentless useful in any deck that wants to have that much mana

Why do Zombie infestation when you can do Shock? Or Pillar of Flame? Or Brimstone Volley?
