A lot of people feel strongly about him being good right now. He is definitely solid and a good 4-drop. The problem is that in those colors he is surrounded by amazing 4-drops. Solemn is immediately followed by a Titan the next turn and is the epitome of value for a midrange list. Midrange decks will also often play 4-drop walkers here, for R/G that's Garruk Relentless or Koth. Thrun is the end all answer when it comes to being anti-control. Hero of Oxid Ridge and Hellrider close games out for the aggro decks. He definitely seems like a great 4-drop for a midrange style deck, I just don't see him finding a home right away considering the things he's competing with for the slot in the deck. I could forsee certain things that could change in the format that would make him a much better fit, but this isn't the place for that.

He is a solid 4drop. I think as the stratagies come out more and more he will become a more favored addition to decks. Though I agree that he is surrounded by cards that are just a tinsy bit better.
My personal theory is that this october when Scars block goes out of standard it will imeediatly become better.
Solemn, Oxid Ridge, Koth, and Thrun will all be out of standard assuming that they are not re-printed in MAGIC 2013. So that will open him up more for a great fill in.
Then lastly he is the ONLY werewolf that does not have a downside when being flipped.
I think he'll see play for certain because he can fit into any strategy and doesn't require any outside help to be good
I personally like him in control. Something unconventional like RUG or Jund would benefit quite well from both of his faces and would be able to flip him back and forth pretty easily
My original plan when he was spoiled was to use him as my primary creature in a RUG control list. I've since switched to Esper because Lingering Souls is absurd.
I think Huntmaster will see play, I just don't know where yet. He's very powerful, he just doesn't have a home. Seems that's a common theme with this set (Strangleroot Geist, 3-drop Undying Zombie).
I definitely wanna play a deck with him, Daybreak Ranger, and Mayor Of Avabruck. Probably RUG Tempo like people keep suggesting. He may be overrated but on paper he sounds amazing.
I love him. Makes werewolf tribal great with boosts from mayor and instigator gang. Plus now i won't get pissed when my opponent transforms my werewolves backs.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
If you are playing him with a Birthing Pod shell, you can easily pod into him and have it flip in the same turn, netting 2 life, a 2/2 token, 2 damage to an opponent, 2 damage to a creature and a 4/4 trampler.
Too bad the night side has CMC = 0, so you can't pod further into a 5 drop unless you manage to flip him back.
He might fit decently in a slower deck in this aggro meta, where a "ramp to titan/coil/sphinx" strategy doesn't work for many decks. He is not set back nearly as much by vapor snag.
I think he's what "Counterwolves" decks needed to push into a more serious contention. Just straight up "throw every ww in a deck and crush" will never work, and I think this guy shows that a Draw Go shell can really be brutal without a heavy creature base. If they can protect him, he'll win the game.
Personally, I'm not sold of his pseudo-Inferno Titan ability, and come to think of it, when it comes to putting a 2/2 Wolf creature, Howlpack Alpha is still the fastest.
With so much 4 creatures lying around he's just not that great (to me at least). I'd rather have Kessig Cagebreakers(a 4G to cast) or more importantly Solemn Simulacrum. Being a 4/4 Trample that can ping for 2(player->creature) doesn't do any real help, IMHO.

Not sure if this card is gonna get banned sooner or maybe later...
Please don't make crap up. This is such an obvious word vomit it's ridiculous. Something about the internet and people thinking they need to say something to fit in..

you're only talking about one face of him at a time, which is really not what makes him good. the fact that he's the only werewolf with two equally good sides is what makes him amazing

Indeed. That's what make him comparable to creatures like the SadRobot. Fells basically dies quicker. Yes he's a DFC, but I don't see any reason why I should compare him as a whole flip card if most of the time he'll be spending time in his human form, and easily hosed as well. I'm not saying he's bad, I'm saying there are more other options than this guy in this time of standard. (Hellrider, Hero of Oxid Ridge, Thrun )

Thrun is definitely more durable, but other than that he's just a 4/4 vanilla beater. Sadbot is amazing card advantage and a good chump blocker, but he's not very offensive. I would argue that Huntmaster is better than either Hellrider or Hero in any deck except RDW.
I think he fills a niche that no other card does at the moment
Also, why do you say he'll spend most of his time in human form? He'll most likely go into a werewolves deck or a RUG control shell where they'll be able to flip him pretty much whenever they want
RUG seems to be a place he would have a perfect fit, where you could benefit from him more than other 4-drops in the format. That said though, most of the lists I see trying to use him they would be better off even just playing Cudgel Troll and there's lots of room for improvement from that.

I've been testing a RUG list almost non-stop and he is not only an all-star, but wins me every game he goes unanswered.
And to the guy who said RUG control style decks can flip him whenever they want, you are absolutely correct..I literally can sit there and decide when I want either side, and both are relevant against different decks.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
Well In all honestly Huntmaster has its pros and cons. Though IF he gets his work done, as in you can activate his abilities pretty quick without him dying he gives you more for a 4 cost card than just about any other in standard.
Here is the thing. For 4 mana you can get, a 2/2 Wolf token, Gain 2 life, Get a 2/2 creature than can transform.
And then if you transform him then you get To hit for 2 damage to target opponent and 2 to a creature he controls as well as getting a 4/4 with Trample on teh field.
So for JUST 4 MANA and one flip you get all the affects of a 2/2 wolf token, Essentially a sorin's Thirst (they loose two life and you gain two life depending on which side he flipped) and a shock. even then you end up with a 4/4 trampler on top of everythign else. thats a hell of a lot for just 4 mana. And of course if you can keep flipping him then its free spells. Its like getting two free shocks every time he becomes a werewolf and flipping him to a human would not be a downside either.
THE BAD
he dies to.......dismember , shock , galvanic blast , doom blade , Go for the throat , ect ect ect. He also costs 4 which would be a turn 3 play at best. Which menas your EASILY in the range for an opponent to counter with mana leak or dissipate or cancel . Thoug any 4 drop can have the counter weakness, with teh exception of thrun though.

You're obviously forgetting the fact that using a removal spell on Huntmaster puts your opponent behind, as you still gained life and got another creature out of the deal.

He makes moonmist insane. Like "Hey I'm going to through off all your combat math, nuke that extra dude flip my mayor and my instigator gang oh I don't lose anything this turn? lol GG"

I like to protect frightened things perhaps. I assembled them in the fortress of beefitude for safety.
Overrated or underrated? Do think he'll see a ton of play, or just fringe play in RG aggro/midrange (non-Ramp) based decks?
Cardtags added, remember to use those for SCD-threads.

M12 goes out when the next block comes out. so unless its re-printed in 2013 it will be out.
