I think that Cloistered Youth is a perfect card in a U/W control deck against any aggro or control. For the fact that it can be a 3/3 body at the cost of -1 a turn, against aggro it could be a slight problem, but hey, you have a 3/3. Again a deck like U/B control I see that the only way to kill it is with a Go for the throat seeing that it flips, and it can even go down before they get mana leak mana up. I just don't see why it is not used. That is just my thoughts on the card.
Even Watchwolf wasn't that great in a format that had a 4/4 that gained you 4 for 4 as a big deal creature... Really you want to be doing more than beating in for 3 by turn 3 in control these days, and as a whole you don't want to be tapping out on turn 2-3. Also, being a 1/1 initially is a real issue as a things like Wring Flesh and Gut shot are a real thing in this format.
its not that i think Cloistered Youth is the worst card ever (its ok, but not great, and is borderline playable). its that i'm MINDBLOWN that the original poster is suggesting playing this in control.
have you ever played control? did you ever play a control deck that liked to play cheap, vulnerable weenie creatures that deal damage to yourself?

I'm astonished that you think this card is good especially in a control deck.
My own opinion is that its' greatest strength is that it is a human. That is extremely relevant with CotP out and about. Obviously Abolisher is better, but it isn't a terrible 2 drop. It also isn't the best 2 drop which is what the majority of statements have been. If you can't get your hands on an abolisher or just want a very low mana curve, then go for it, otherwise, I would choose a little more consistent creatures.
The fact that it comes down early is irrelevant.

I don't even know right now.
The 2 drop of many white decks is grand abolisher, and the added utility is better than the +1/1, damage per turn, and temporary vulnerability.
