yeah... I had a suspicion that control was in a bad spot. Solar flare beats most the other control variants, but dies to everything else in the format... definitely suggested that they were not the real deal. This format is not looking too friendly to control in general as it stands.

Wolf-Run seems to be dominating the entire field, no? Like, it's not far from Caw-Blade levels. Is this just a fad? (EDIT: That was a mild exaggeration, but Wolf Run variants have showings of at least one per top 8, with a couple exceptions, and 2-3 frequently).
EDIT: @Lifekills
It's mostly a fear thing. That, and most of the good pilots from MTGS couldn't make it (I was out of town, Yoshi can only make it to one larger tourney a year, etc). Illusions is at least good enough to merit one showing I'd say.

Wolf's Run is a versatile closer that's easily splashed into from red or green. There's a lot of decks calling themselves wolf's run and they're all solid. The key is they're midrangy, resilient and have a strong finisher.

UB control has a good MU against Flare and WRR it's a viable deck in this format for sure.

not its the valakut of the meta game. I have a solution to it. Lol its going to be a good little while for UB permission.

Yeah, but to address the elephant in the room, Caw-Blade was played in U/w, U/b/w, U/w/r, U/w/r with splinter Twin, U/w/r with Splinter Twin and Pod, etc. It just referred to any deck with Birds and Swords (and SFM, naturally).
the funny thing is that most inheritors from caw blade were on the sunny flary side...
and suddenly a homebrew (as was called in SGC) explodes all over the country and send them to see how lilliana and possibly snapcaster mage goes down in price...
not to mention the other beast in township tokens... it went day 1 undefeated with 2 decks in brisbane
Wolf-Run seems to be dominating the entire field, no? Like, it's not far from Caw-Blade levels.
Caw Blade levels would be dominating at a high level for months on end. Wolf Run is a strong deck that many people didn't adapt in time to battle against this weekend. Metagame will shake out and odds are good we see a move from the durdly decks that can't beat Wolf Run towards ones that can and other players switching to aggressive strategies.
So, it's the new deck to more or less ruin the metagame for half the season?
Yes, but UB permission beats it just like it beat caw-blade. Those of us who like to play true control and have stuck to our guns will be in great shape.

^Pretty much. Dedicated control decks have good match ups with Wolf-Run Ramp.
anywho... it's about time for me to call it a night... Not sure how to do it, but if anyone is willing to take over and can get the mods to make it happen, by all means you're welcome to it. Otherwise I'll update the list tomorrow when I can. If I can get the results put together in an orderly fashion I may even try to do some statistical analysis on them.
So, even though I think I'm done updating the OP for the night, by all means keep posting results and we'll see what we can do. If you want to help me out and make this easier for me tomorrow, please make another thread for discussion and use this one for results only. 1-8 listing is the preferred method. I think I'd like everything like that... if you don't know it for your state... it's actually not a benefit to post it for me... it won't get entered till tomorrow, let someone with the full list post.

UB control put a stop to the Valakut shenanigans last year in the pre-MBS times so it certainly seems reasonable to say it can do the same to Wolf Run Decks.
Wolf Run is without a doubt the deck to beat right now though

Except wolf run ramp is easier to beat because that land can't kill us with no creatures in play

Exactly. Wolf Run is basically just a Valakut deck that's easier to interact with because the win-con is creatures and not playing mountains for uncounterable Lightning Bolts.

Yessir. It is a good day to tap islands for counterspells. I believe I'm going to boycott the Zoo format(modern) and just play standard. We should all boycott modern until they get rid of zoo, and stop banning/unban control cards.

i think that wolf run is harder to beat than valakut...
wolf run runs main deck sweepers...
and rams with creatures... which gives it bodies to chump block and proide some pressure...
even without the wolf run/inkmoth interaction, the deck is quite oppressing...
obviously there are no traps, but anyway...
threat density is a word here
Its not worse for control decks. Them having sweepers just means that they have several dead cards against you. It only oppresses RDW and UW blade decks which are the toughest for UB control to beat.

I have been smashing Wolf Run in testing for a week. Came up against it today and beat it 2-0. It is not the new Valakut and is completely wrecked by a few choice cards. Come on, people.
I went 5-1-1 and placed ninth at Nevada states. I believe there were three Wolf Runs in the top eight, as well as a relatively unique and highly metagamed UBW Tezzeret deck (my only match loss, in fact).

what did you run? I bet it had blue in it. Decks without blue struggle heavily against that deck.

That's insane. I can only imagine what the rest of that tournament looked lie.
Thanks to Gabgabdevo for the awesome sig image!
I'm always looking for foil Madcap Skills and Ghitu Fire-Eater, [trade thread link forthcoming]
It loses hard to WRR and RDW making Kessig into a removal spell as well as a win condition is not where you want to be in this format unfortunately.
Illusions dies horribly to Wolf Run, because they can target YOUR creatures as well.

If you hate the deck, I'm probably playing it!
