i dont know about GFTT because of tempered steel being such a widely played deck. i think doom blade is a safer bet.
I agree. There's not many black creatures being played right now, and Dismember doesn't kill Grave Titan anyway. Doom Blade over Dismember. If you're worried about turn 1 duders then sideboard some Disfigures.
I went 3-1, my one loss coming from a UW Sun Titan-Phantasmal Image-Venser combo deck. It was pretty interesting. A UW Control shell, with some ridiculous endgame with Sun Titan bringing back an Image, copying Sun Titan, bringing back an Image, etc etc.
I beat a Naya Caw Blade, a GR aggro deck, and monoblack control. I wish I had more games against real decks, but whatever.
Some notes about the deck:
-Tumble Magnet was great, Ratchet Bomb wasn't. I might swap that, and go up to 3 Magnets, 0 Ratchet Bombs.
-Into the Roil was good, but I definitely want to keep it at 1x.
-The split of threats was great, 2/2 Wurmcoil/Sphinx was perfect.
-The sideboard definitely wasn't as good as I would have liked. Phyrexian Revoker was lackluster, and I never brought in Spellskites. Maybe 2 Ratchet Bombs belong here? Also, maybe more Jace or Solemn Simulacrum in the board for control matchups?
-Torpor Orb was great, and it's easy to decide when it should be in the sideboard.
I took my skirge blade to FNM last night the list is on page 267. I went 4-0
RD 1 mono red prolif homebrew 2-1
my first match-up being some sort of mono red proliferation lux cannon deck with Koths the first game took my by surprise and i lost the next 2 games i knew what to expect and won easily.
I sided in flashfreeze ratchet bomb and steel sabotage i dont remember what i took out except for BSZ
RD 2 U/B control 2-0
Game 1 was what you would expect with 2 control type decks going at eachother counterspells hand disrupt ponder or preordains till i tap out for tezz he taps out for consecrated sphynx, before I draw I doomblade it make my spellskite a 5/5 and win a couple turns after.
Game 2 he gets stuck at 3 mana with me having tec edge to screw him if he gets another one anyway i get a turn 4 tezz and make my vault skirge a 5/5 i win i few turns later.
I sided out doomblade for Gftt
RD3 Valakut 2-1
Game 1 i hold him off for a while but the valakuts and mana ramp get to be too much for me.
Game 2 i do a turn 1 vault skirge a turn 2 torpor orb i get tezz on turn 4 vault skirge and a 5/5 torpor orb win it.
Game 3 goes almost the same turn 2 torpor orb countered some early ramp skirges with swords won.
I sided in torpor orbs gftt doomblade and flashfreeze
RD 4 Another Valakut 2-1
Again game 1 gets away from me but it was close.
Game 2 was another torpor orb story with magnets and removal for the titans I get a better start than him and win early with etched champions cruising in with swords.
Game 3 Came down to this, I am at 2 life he is at 10 life he has an overgrown battlement and a thrun thats been pounding me down. On my side I had a torpor orb that I just got back with buried ruins, a Tezzeret and a tumble magnet. In my hand is a sofaf and a Batterskull I take my turn make the orb a 5/5 equip the sword to it and hit him for 7 after tapping his overgrown battlment. I untap my land and cast my Batterskull to block the Thrun and I cross my fingers Im thinking hes going to draw a bolt or artifact hate for the batterskull but he draws a primeval and plays it thinking hes won but i point out the torpor orb saving me from the valakut trigger. On my turn I swing in for lethal. It was a great game and certainly my hardest win of the night.
Thoughts on my card selection...
I struggle with whether or not to mainboard 3 cards Phyrexian Metamorph, Etched Champion and Spellskite, after using them all for a few weeks against all kinds of decks I can say that every Tezz deck should be running Spellskite hes a humble hero, he eats removal for me he stands up to early aggro hes cheap to cast and hes a potential 5/5. The other 2 cards have proven their worth to me whether it be the champion being unblockable with swords or blocking big baddies. The Metamorph is just crazy versatile especially being able to be cast for 3 mana
I do wish I had some everflowing chalices I used to run them and I miss the ramp but there isnt anything I feel like I can take out for them.
And finally BSZ I used it in my prolif tezz build where it was much better, in my current build it sucks I only need it against aggro and I think my spot removal and ratchet bombs in the side are better.
