Crypt of Agadeem Fireball
B/R build. Crypt of Agadeem + Fireball after all the rats are in yard?
*continues to beat head against the side of a building*

"Choose target card in a graveyard other than a basic land card. Search its owner's graveyard, hand, and library for any number of cards with the same name as that card and exile them. Then that player shuffles his or her library."
i fail to see how you think crypt would work with anything in standard let alone with surgical extraction.....targeting yourself will not be benificial in anyway shape or form in this standard enviornment! Completely terrible and will never work at a competitive level....

This is not good, you end up with a deck of 3 surgical extractions, a bunch of land, and maybe some discard and removal and a 6 mana threat or something.
Awful lot of work to make a bad deck. Why not just play a 30 land deck with a bunch of discard and 1 grave titan. /facepalm
Okay so turn 1> IoK + Surgical
turn 2 land + burn
turn 3 land + burn burn
turn 4 land + burn burn burn etc etc. IT'd be a hilarious deck to get going but turn 1 your set if you get 30+ rats out of deck.
this would be so much more awesome if blightning was legal.
The problem is that there's not enough solid burn in standard... I mean, any time you're using Lava Axe, you're in trouble. But, getting a Pyromancer Ascension into an IOK is pretty funny. The other problem is, you're essentially in top deck mode the entire time. I mean, thus is the nature of burn. But you don't have power in hand, and that's never... a good place to be. Devastating Summons might be interesting too.
That said: I could reliably discard rats into extraction, but, once you get that out of the way, it's not really exciting.

That's why I said it's stupid. I didn't mean through surgical extracting them, I was saying in general. But since there isn't anyway in standard (that I know of) that can get all your rats to the graveyard, it doesn't help this topic so I'll go away now ;).
i think this is actually a decent way to set up a combo deck in standard. grixis splinter twin, or the ascension combo.
Like Doomsday, the ONLY reasonable purpose is for combo. For non-combo having a smaller deck is good, but not at the ridiculous cost imposed by this (insane) idea.
You could raise the probability of assembling splinter twins significantly, but at the expense of basically having nothing to protect it. Of course.... if that ever became a deck a side-board in 11 rats and 4 surgical extraction could (probably not) be used against decks that don't have an answer?
Ascension-crank is a little more interesting... actually I would love to play that deck
Not that this gives the deck idea any merit, but running some Red Sun and Black Sun zeniths (reshuffling them)
Keeping the board clear of creatures, and burning your opponents face every turn doesn't seem like a BAD thing. And suddenly those land draws aren't the end of the world, they just charge up your X spells.
This is obviously the new combo that Chapin and the rest are talking about that will take over standard and break the meta. Wizards will have to ban all of NPH except for Defensive Stance (Until it finds a home in a combo deck).
See, you just go on the draw, you RatStract (tm), Then when they search for their puny equipment BOOM you archive trap a few times and if they arn't a goner, you noxious revival them back to the top of your library and back into your hand with probe to kill them. FOOLPROOF.
this thread has officially torn whatever hope for humanity I've had away from me
That said, why not just run selective memory, and play it to exile your ENTIRE DECK. Yes!! Then you can rub it in your opponent's face about how they didn't beat you, you just won against yourself!! kinda... it sounded good anyway...

i might try this because i think it's funny.
4 iok, 4 bolt, 4 searing blaze, 4 Slagstorm, 3 Pyromancer Ascension, 1 lava Axe, 4 Surgical Extractions, 8 fetch lands (4 marsh flats + 4 arid mesa/scalding tarn), 3 mountains 2 swamp, 25 rats...

The only thing surgical extracting yourself is good for is an exercise in futility.

Again, you're not reading the card correctly. Surgical Extraction puts the cards in EXILE, not into their owner's graveyard.
It doesnt work like that..... please RTFC

Surgical Extraction removes (exiles) them from the game, it does not put the cards from your library/hand into your graveyard.
There is no reason to continue trolling a dead horse.
Hand:
2 Swamp
3 Rat
1 IoK
1 S.E.
turn 1 you on the play after you extract your rats leaves your had looking like this:
1 swamp
so you gave yourself a mindshatter for 5 basically, but had nothing go to the grave yard and your deck is now X cards thinner

Granted, that's still just a 2/2 or a pair of 3/3's, but they aren't auto-gone.
Remember, kids: Never fight with Flashback, 'cause Flashback always wins.
ty for the nit pic on an obviously teir 1 combo your right, this means i could possibly extract all but 2 rats from the deck, just as a back up plan
