^^ Where can i find Patrick Sullivan's article? Can you please link it?
In response to the thread: RDW is actually more of a control deck than it's been in a loooong time. You really are burning out all of your opponents creatures dropping a Koth and winning on the back of him and Spikeshot. I don't agree that slow rolling against Caw-Blade is a bad strategy although i will agree that dropping a turn 1 Spikeshot is a terrible play. Really once the Hawk/Stoneforge package is burned out the only thing you have to worry about is Gideon which shouldn't be to difficult considering the amount of direct damage your packing. With no Into the Roil to worry about Koth puts them on a hard clock. Of course Baneslayer/Suntitan get brought out of the side game 2 but we're bringing in Mark of Mutiny/Combust/Tumble Magnet.
So, thoughts on RDW or Charlie Sheen Red as we call it at our local store, after the R/W sword comes out... It seems like it will fold like laundry once that hits the table.
Yeah red has always been lacking in the destroy artifact department, we'll have to reach deep into our sideboard tech drawer for answers to a 3cc equipment, LULZ.
On a side note I ☺☺☺☺ING LOVE THE NAME CHARLIE SHEEN RED!!!

I'm trying a new-ish version. Instead of Kargan Dragonlord, I'm just bringing in extra burn. Dragonlord levels up...then gets removed, and just ate a ton of mana in the process. RDW Control might be the way to go.
Red deck is good. Its not super ultra tier 1 competitive, but its a very powerful deck for several reasons.
Goblin guide is still the best 1 drop in the entire format.
The abundance of landfall triggers with 8 fetch lands makes geopede and searing blaze A+.
Koth is one of the best planeswalkers ever printed and the best mono red PW thus far.
Lightning bolt burns almost every relevant creature besides titans and baneslayer.
Red deck might very well be able to win. I wish the mods would get their heads out of their arses and unlock the rdw thread so work can be done.
If you read Patrick's article it's not always about playing hasted creatures and attacking. In fact, against decks like boros you actually are the control and your goal is to remove all their creatures and then eventually play koth to control and win the game.
this has been the single most important piece of strategy I have ever read.the whole article was awesome.

I think we could still get a "[Developing] Red Deck Wins" thread in the Standard Deck section. We all obviously want to see this deck do well, and based on the Patrick's recent 1st place win, we have a bit of hope. This deck's success depends a lot on the pilot, but we can still discuss cards and pick the archetype in and out. Heck, we could even give a few pointers on how to pilot the deck if we make the thread. Just shooting an idea out there. I'm up for it.

Sidenote, Some dude at SCG Memphis that top 8ed with RDW named his archetype in the interview Charlie Sheen Red... If you look on the previous page of this topic, you will see I named it Charlie Sheen Red before Saturday.
I consider this a personal win, because that coincidence is way too improbable.
Despite all the speculation in this thread, the fact is that for all the claims regarding Boros' consistency are unfounded. The Mono-red archetypes are consistently outperforming the Boros archetypes in every category, but why?
It has to do with the same reason why people are saying that Boros is the same as RDW with cards that exile instead of burn. If you think this is the case, you are sorely misguided. You cannot target face with Journey to Nowhere folks, and if they equip a bird on the fly and attack you, it definitely won't help you.
The critical difference between Boros and RDW is that Boros is inherently a creature-based strategy. You have to win with creatures with Boros, but with RDW the goal against control is to use the creatures to get the opponent within burn range, then you target face for the win. Against aggro, like Boros, RDW actually plays the control by burning all the creatures down until they peter out, then they drop something like Devastating Summons or Kargan Dragonlord, and control the board state with Spikeshot Elder or Cunning Sparkmage.
Boros just doesn't have the ability to do something like that. It is fundamentally a different decks.
