Watching the live coverage right now and I figured this was a great time to make a thread as the feature match was Valakut and Vamps. The Vamps guy had a Pulse Tracker and Gatekeeper out and just used Crush against Tumble Magnet. The Valakut player had 3 mountains, 1 Valakut and 2 forests -- played his Primeval. Now he had 4 life left, and Vamps guy had 18 and a Bloodghast in the graveyard. Couldn't he have just gotten 2 mountains and got rid of the two creatures and hoped to survive another turn (assuming the guy didn't have Bolts/other burn? He didn't, he instead got a mountain and Valakut and preceded to lose on next turn. So wah?

No, Valakut is if you have 5 or more other mountains, so the triggers work on 4-6, not 3-5.
What ended up winning the 4th round feature? I had to leave work when they went to game 3 I saw that it was eldrazzi green and mono green infect?
Infect won pretty awesomely. Got 9 in with Inkmoth a turn before it would have promptly lost. So that was sweet. I mean, it is what you would expect I suppose. Tons of pump, Necropede, Inkmoth. Can't go wrong. This is why I immediately thought Infect would be 10x better the second I saw Inkmoth. But we'll see, I'd like to see that and Esper in the top 8.
They announcers were calling Nick's list the new Super Friends.
Also, my first time watching SCG coverage and the two guys calling the action are horrible, IMO. I'm grateful that I get the opportunity to watch Magic online like this, but I almost want to turn the sound off if I didn't want to know what was in the player's hands at all times.

Well they're no Brian David Marshall, but they do a decent job.
They've been at this how many hours, can't really complain too much about it.
So no one listens to the I Want My MTG podcast? 'Cause that's who one of the guys is. Pretty good podcast, they tend to stay on topic most of the time, which I always appreciate.
The guy with the beard seems like he's trying to have a good time while the other one is taking everything way too seriously.
Enjoying the matches though.
I think the interesting thing from Memphis is the mono-green Infect deck. I think he said the deck cost him like 5 bucks to put together and he was beating Eldrazzi Ramp, Valakut, et cetera. He was 5-2 after round 7, but I don't what he currently is at right now.

He borrowed Inkmoth's.
Other than that land, its like common green pump spells, and common infectors prolly.
Ha, I played that mono-G infect before Inkmoth, and it's really good, for a deck that could have been built for probably less than $10. Inkmoth obviously balloons that overall cost, but it's a great competitive budget option.

Several years ago, WotC apparently surveyed Magic players across the globe. They found that people liked turning things sideways, and hated LD. This is the result:
When all else fails, when the meta is just getting irritating, shove as many planeswalkers (7 Jace is a good start) as you can into a deck and start the punishment.
he said in the booth that he lost half his g1's, and then won the match post-SB because players sided in cards unnecessarily and slowed themselves down while he got his 9/9 inkmoth infect attacks online
the mono green infect deck only won cus of land screw in the feature match...
looking at what green got in MBS compared to what black got im pretty sure green based infect will never be better than mono black or at least a B/G deck.
Unnatural Predation made mono green infect much more potent... my win rates went up substantially (I've gone pretty much undefeated since MBS release)... evasion is all the deck needed and the extra trample fills that position. All the other deck slots are filled and ready.
The only real trouble I had was KRed - but there are plenty of options to slow the other aggressive decks. Combined with Contagion Clasp and Necropede, it becomes easy to gain the upper hand.

RUG vs. Esper Control right now.
No, Valakut is if you have 5 or more other mountains, so the triggers work on 4-6, not 3-5.
EDIT: He just explained. 7 copies of Jace, Planeswalkers galore, tons of disruption and board wipes so he can play his fatties. I like it.
Legacy: UB(R/G) Storm UB(R/G)
Vintage: UBG Gush Storm UBG
he has doom blade and disfigure in his 75 also, with BSZ.
I liked the list he had, i'm a fan of esper colors for control. Having 7 Jace makes it easy to win Jace Wars.

lolol 4x JTMS and 3x JB.... and Sun Titan just to revive Jace B to kill enemy JTMS.
That's pretty awesome tech.
I <3 Super Friends list, kind of surprised he doesn't run Wall or Sea Gate for 2/3 drop cantrips (though JB fills that role)

Missing Primal Bellow which is the only reason to stay mono green.
