Im not sure about how most people play boros, but I almost never search for an adventuring gear with stoneforge mystic. If I have only 2-3 land in my hand, I feel that a sword probably add more damage+gives protection/effect. If I have too many lands, I still almost always search for a sword. When do I search for gear?
Am I playing the deck wrong? I like adventuring gears in zen block boros because it is a cheap 1 costing artifact that add damage and allows skyfisher. Against non creature based decks, I get them since collar is pretty bad. Now days with swords and all, have they become obsolete? Is people still playing them just because it was there before swords came out?

Idk about you, but I search the Gear out on turn 2 with the stoneforge all the time. It is good because it gives the friends of boros (Stoneforge, Hawks, Oxid Ridge, Goblin Guide) the landfall trigger ability. THe gear allows you to put more pressure on the opponent by evenly distributing bonuses to the Non-Landfall Creatures.
For example, I had a Geopede and a squadron hawk out, and adventuring gear in play, I equipped my gear to my hawk, played a fetch, and swung for 10. The Gear gave my evasive creature the +4/+4 it so desperately needed to win. The Gear turns your every land draw into a good draw, and it puts more pressure on the opponent.
I don't know about you, but I will always run 2 Gears as long as I play boros
I don't run it for the ability to search it up with Stoneforge Mystic. I run for the off-chance that it's in my opening hand and I get to blow my opponent out of the water before s/he has time to blink. Being able to fetch it at convenient times is pure gravy.

We are the middle children of history. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War is a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.
I love them even if i dont tutor it.
T1 Lynx. T2 Guide Swing for 4/6. T3 Drop Gear swing for 10. Opponent on 6/4.
Laughable!
Its rarely my 1st search, unless I have a land full of fetches and my opponent an empty board.

I'm running 1 along with one of each sword and a bonehoard, maindeck and a Collar in the board.
I find that I fetch it or play it from my hand to good effect often enough to keep it in the deck as a 1 of, but with the prevalence of Caw go, it's less of an awesome 2-3 of than it used to be
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
Two-of MD in hopes of drawing it early or having it in opening hand. It can end games really fast. I don't often tutor for it with mystic, but I've done it and been happy with it. Obviously, knowing which equipment you need when just takes time.
I run 2 Gear, 1 of each sword and 1 bonehoard main, with a collar in the SB and a 2nd SoBaM. If I see the opponent playing green or blue I bring in the 2nd sword, or if the opponent isnt g or b, i switch the swords.
I might have too much equipment in my 75, but i'm not sure, is 7 too much?

I use to run 5 equipment, but I felt that 4 was all I really needed. In saying that, the number of equipment you run is really all based on your meta. Mine has a bunch of control decks, so I want more burn to get them really early, or to at least use as counter bait so I can get things like Oxid Ridge on board.
Adventuring Gear is a card that, while not being crucial to the deck, is still an extremely important card to be running. Granted, a lot of times when I win, I don't have a gear on board, but when I do, it is just a blowout.
AG gear is the anti-overextend card for us. if you get it in the opening 7 w/ a lynx/gg/geopede, you can really just sit and bash away until something gets in your way.

This man speaks truth. I have been running 3 Adventuring Gear and seeing one in my opening hand always makes me happy. The point of equipment in this deck isn't to do silly crap like mill them or untap our lands. Sure those are nice bonus's but we want to do maximum damage asap. For this same reason I run Goblin Gavleer as a 2of, Gavleer with a double landfalled Adventuring gear is a 7/5 trampling beast. Who needs titan's when you can pull off plays like that on turn 3?

I personally have found it subpar since I rarely get it with Stoneforge Mystic and there are always too many Squad Hawks on the other side to chump block. I may cut 1 of the 2 Adventuring Gear since it is the least used card in the deck.

It depends I found getting it with the first stoneforge if my hand isnt full of land fall duders seems to work the best. obviously it's situational but it really is something that will close the games quickly.

Isn't closing games quickly what boros is all about? Swords are better in the mid and late game but I think the idea is to not let things to to the late game.

Adventuring Gear in the Opening hand with 2-3 fetches to back it up and a one drop is usually GG. As simple as that. It's really easy to curve out, playing out a lynx turn1, a GG turn two, and equipping a gear turn 3 for some crazy beats, and of course you didn't crack a fetch turn 2.

Uh, it's impossible for this scenario to happen.
You can't play a Lynx on turn 1 and a Goblin Guide on turn 2 while maintaining an open fetch land. There's no dual lands in this deck; each land produces (or searches a land that produces) one color.
The closest you can get to this is drawing a Steppe Lynx, Goblin Guide, Adventuring Gear AND a Mountain (in order to not crack a fetch land on turn 2). That's asking an awful lot.

The AG in the deck are just like the singleton SSE, you dont expect to draw it or see it in the starting 7, but its a definite bonus when you do.
