Mirrodin I played a janky Angel deck (I was what like...18 or something) my first time at FNM. Was so horrified at the Affinity I quit Magic.
Next time I played FNM M11 was almost due to come out. I played Mono Green. And then Mono White Control, then U/W, then U/B and now have Eldrazi Ramp and R/B Vamps.
Prior to this, I was a jank player
RAV/KAMI: Hand in Hand, Gruul, Boros, and Ghazi Glare
RAV/TSP/9E(Xth): BW Control, eventually morphing into Solar Flare. The big ticket for me this time was MBC. Kept all the same decks once Xth rotated in, just made adjustments.
TSP/LRW/XE: Elves, casually Goblins and other tribes. Eventually various forms of Lark
LRW/ALA'/XE: Grixis Control, Jund Ramp WAY before Jund was the in thing to do., continued Elves, eventually straight Jund, once again, before Jund was the straight thing to do and when everyone was on 4/5Color Blood, I called them stupid and went with a much more consistant regular Jund. Continued my janky lark builds.
ALA/ZEN/M10: Jund, Grixis Control. Eventually UW Control and UWr Super Frinds
ZEN/SOM/M11: Continuing with UW Control, also playing UB Control
ravinica/timespiral-ur dragonstorm
timespiral/lorwyn-elves then fae
lorwyn/shards-fae then kithkin
shards/zen-jund then boros then uw then jund
zen/scars- uw then ub then rug then ub then caw-go
This looks like a good thread to come back after a couple of years away:
-Pre-Odyssey: Casual player, played weird own creations.
-Invasion/Odyssey: Psychatog, UG Madness
-Odyssey/Onslaught: Goblins, Elves.
-Onslaught/Mirrodin: Affinity.
-Mirrodin/Kamigawa: Black Aggro, UBG Rock.
-Kamigawa/Ravnica: Boros, which turned into Zoo. Also Heartbeat.
-Ravnica/Time Spiral: Dralnu du Louvre.
Then I left MTG until now.
Zendikar/Scars of Mirrodin: UB Control.

Thanks to Le_Gambit from "æтђєг" for the amazing banner.
I was always one of those "buck the system and invent my own builds." It just always worked out for me and did VERY well taking people by surprise.
ONS/Mirrodin - Slide
Mirrodin/CHK - White Witch
CHK/RAV - Greater Good, Green Ghost Dad
RAV/TS - Martyr Proc
TS/LOW - didn't play, but would have played Elementals
LOW/Alara - didn't play, but would have played Revilark
ALA/ZEN - Warp World, Mono-G Eldrazi
ZEN/SOM -not playing, but would be running Myrball
Time Spiral/Lorwyn - Teachings, Mannequin and Reveillark. Mannequin and 'Lark may have been my favorite decks ever.
Lorwyn/Alara - Lark and Time Sieve.
Alara/Zendikar - RWU Planeswalker Control after Rise, before Rise I played little, bored with Jund, but when I played I used some weird UR control build with the love of my card life Treasure Hunt.
Zendikar/Scars - Valakut Ramp.
I think Mannequin may have been my favorite deck of all time.
Hm.
Legends/Mir: Zombies featuring Skullclamp! I played myself out of 5-3. :/
Mirrodin/Kamigawa: KCI[BANNEDZORZ:(], then 5CC Gifts Control/Sunburst/the Eternal Witness/Crystal Shard deck in there somewhere. I did awful at Regionals here because 5CC Gifts is a really hard deck to play, and I had 3 hours of sleep before the tourney.]
Kami/Rav: Boros, random awful soulscape decks, I stopped playing competitively and played ninjas and stuff
Rav/Time Spiral: I bought a set of Tarmogoyfs for $3 each, made a Gro/Goyf deck. Ended up selling the Goyfs for obvious reasons. Kept making Gro and fooling around with graveyard decks.
Time Spiral/Lorwyn: Lots of Reveillark stuff, some UG Fae. Eventually I ended up running UWG with Mystic Snake at Regionals and went 3-3 drop because of awful draws/not owning Cryptic Command/accidentally drawing 8 cards [they were slippery] and having the other guy call judge on me and losing a game ...
Lor/Ala: Random crap, a GU Rite of Replication deck, still Gro [I only stopped playing that deck when 10th cycled].
Ala/Zen: Landfall!!!! Without Lotus cobra since it's expensive!! Lots of budget-ness.
Zen/SoM[current]: Poison and UB pretty much. A lot of UB permission. Other jank decks I tried to make but failed with. I stopped going to FNM because it's far away. I enjoy playing jank mostly, so eh. Wish there was a UG aggro-control deck that didn't suck out there [Poison is basically the closest and most UG is ... beatsticks at the moment ...].

RAV-TSP: BGW Rock variations. Screwed around with a few decent decks for FNM. Then went to Regionals with BGW Rock and obviously a 16 year old kid's first big tournament was 0-2 dead..
TSP-LOR: Play around casual and FNMs with random top tier decks or homebrews. Uh....played a small cash tournament with a BAD RG ramp list and went like 2-4 or something like that...Michael Jacob won nationals with Big Red, so thats when I first played an actual top tier deck without bad cards.
LOR-ALA: Played bad red decks in Standard. Started playing on Magic-League. Started PTQing with Extended. Standard PTQs appear for the 1st time in history and except for the 1st ptq where I played RB aggro, most of the PTQs I played involved Reflecting Pool. So basically Jund or 5 Color Control.
ALA-ZEN: No more 5 color control At least Jund still exists. Took a German list of Jund from Magic-League, lost a million mirrors to people drawing more cascade spells. So I added Goblin Ruinblasters to the SB so that people couldn't cast Bituminous Blast on me. Won a 5k, but being the noob that I am, I split the top 8 cash when I had the best sideboard. After punting states top 8 with Jund, I couldn't win even a FNM with Jund. Then I played UW control and rage quit Standard when people could not stop topdecking Sovereigns of Lost Alara against me.
ALA-ZEN-M11: UW Control. Didn't get a chance to play a lot of FNMs over the summer after m11, so didn't have time to crush FNM with some wacky homebrew.
ZEN-SOM: Just screwing around with Standard since it is not a current relevant format besides 5ks. Though my preferred decks are Boros and the best blue deck atm.
Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
So, I started way back when Ice Age was new, but didn't really know what I was doing -- just played casually over lunch with some friends at school.
The first real deck I ever played was Erhnamgeddon, which I stuck with until I discovered the color blue. From there:
Won States '97 playing mono-blue (Rainbow Efreet was my kill condition).
Messed around with Sligh-ish decks, and Stompy, for a while. Had some decent results.
Top 8'd States '98 with Suicide Black, losing in the quarterfinals to the eventual winner. My mantra at the time was to play anything that A) wasn't Academy and B) could beat Academy.
A whole lot of Forbidian-style mono-blue control once Thieving Magpie supplied the final piece of the puzzle.
Somewhere in there I also took R/W Wildfire to Regionals (guessing '99 since that's when the deck was seeing a lot of play) and went 0-3 drop.
Not long after that I took a ten-year break from Magic, mostly due to the brokenness of the Urza block, plus heading off to college. When I came back, Worldwake was just out and I played quite a bit of jank at FNM before I had enough of a collection again to really do anything. Over the past year, I've played...
Pre-M11: Boros at a Nationals qualifier (made it five rounds before running into the endless stream of Jund), then Next Level Bant up until and for a week or two after M11 hit.
Post-M11, pre-Scars: Tried Boros again at an SCG open, found out it still wasn't a real deck (should've played mono-red instead -- it ended up winning the whole thing). Played U/W control with Sun Titan for a couple months, until I got tired of mirror matches and switched to Mythic, which I rode into the sunset.
Post-Scars: Started out trying to make mono-red with Koth work. Did OK. Then went back to U/W, this time with Luminarch Ascension and proliferate effects, did much better. Flirted a bit with U/B, finally fell in love with RUG, which is what I've mostly been playing since November.
First format I built an actual standard deck was Onslaught-Mirrodin, where I played W/G Slide, sometimes W/G/r. I also had a Goblin deck.
Then in Mirrodin-Kamigawa, what did I play? Man, I don't remember... All my friends were into Affinity (yay ), so I think I just played Extended during that period and sort of boycotted standard.
In Kamigawa-Ravnica, I had a number of decks, I believe. The first one was Heartbeat combo, the second a blue-white-green control deck with Sakura-Tribe Elder, Loxodon Hierarch and Simic Sky Swallower for creatures, Wrath of God, and like sixteen counterspells. The last deck I had was a black-white aggressive deck, "Ghost Dad". I played that deck at Nationals that year, to a splendid 3-3 record...
I had a bunch of decks in Ravnica-Time Spiral. The first was Angelfire. Lightning Angel, Court Hussar, Lightning Helix, Remand, stuff like that. At the same time, I played Dragonstorm on Magic Online. After a while I modified my block Teachings deck into a standard one, and played that for some time. And then at Nationals, I played pretty much monored splashing Tarmogoyf and Treetop Village. I think it was called Sadin Red or Sadin Gruul. I ended up finishing fifth, losing to a good friend with Angelfire in the top 8.
The first deck I had in Time Spiral-Lorwyn was an updated version of the red/green deck from before the rotation, but it wasn't too good, so I discarded it in favor of mono-blue Teachings, which I played in GP Krakow. I ended up finishing right outside the money (68th? I don't remember), since I lost the last two rounds where a couple of wins would have earned me a top 16 finish. I played that deck until Morningtide, when I switched to Lark. I then didn't play anything for a while, until GP Copenhagen, where we brewed up a Teachings deck that I didn't do very well with (5-4?), but Kenny Oberg played it to a top 32 finish.
For Lorwyn-Shards... I was backpacking that year, so I only got to play towards the back end of the format, when Nationals was happening. I tried out Faeries, 5-Color Blood, Elementals and B/W Tokens on Modo before settling on 5-Color Control. Me and a buddy brewed up a list that got him third at Nationals, and myself fifth again, losing in the quarters to G/W Aggro. And oh yeah, my friend also won a PTQ with that deck.
I really didn't play much standard during Shards-Zendikar either. I played a few PTQs in June '10 (I lost in the finals twice), where I played Next Level Bant. I used the same deck for Nationals, where I was 8-1 but fell to 8-4 in the last three and got 9th. With other words, I only went 3-3 with NLB in that event.
And then I guess we're here, pretty much. I haven't been playing a lot, but I'm battling with U/B control and RUG on Modo from time to time. Next time I'll play standard in real life will probably be Nationals again
Apoc/Odys - UGR Snaketongue
Odys/Ons - R/G Beatz
