Okay a few of my friends were thinking why not play Contaminated Ground. I can see how this would be useful especially early game where they would be at a mana disadvantage and late game it could prevent them from tapping it entirely. Now my question is, is this better than Spreading Seas? Spreading Seas can give you a card advantage but that card is not really needed so early on, it can also mess up an opponents mana base but a lot of people are playing blue now.
The cantrip is far better than the loss of two life... If the land did damage to the player, then there might be a discussion but in almost every situation you'd rather be drawing that card and not falling behind in terms of hand.
Sea also has the advantage in the mirror and against Vamps as they have a greedy mana base, whereas the Contaminated Grounds does nothing. Finally you're usually winning in a few turns off of Grave or Frost Titan so the extra few points of life loss won't really matter too much these days because of how fast you burst people down with your finishers.
Drawing a card is more valuable than forcing life loss upon the opponent to a strategy like ours.
Additionally, making lands tap for blue instead of black is actually relevant, as Spreading Seas is a solid card against Vampires, who have very few colorless mana requirements.
DISCUSS!!!:D

There's no discussion here...

Edit: Oh, hey, Modern is a format.
