Zendikar and M11 will rotate when the first set of the next block comes out (Exactly a year after Scars release, which was October 30th) So October 30th, 2011.

    To clarify:

Zendikar block and M11 rotate out on October 1st, 2011, which is a year after Scars came out (not October 30th).

Scars block will rotate out at the same time in 2012.

Also, M12 will come out in July 2011, meaning for three months (July, August, September), both M11 and M12 will be standard legal.

As far as I know, most grandmothers are also mothers. I could be wrong though...
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.

How would it be if the the format rotated block per block instead of set per set? More cards in the pool no?

D'oh. 30th was Game Day, my bad. x.x

This is how it works. Zendikar block (Zendikar, Worldwake, Rise of the Eldrazi) all rotate at the same time.

I thought Rise of the Eldrazi was a set all it's own. So wouldn't it be just Zen and M11 that rotate?

No, Rise is just like Shadowmoor. For the rotation schedule for formats, Rise rotates with Zendikar, just like Shadowmoor did with Lorwyn.
