Its not a very good match up, my buddy and I have a runeflare deck so I have played it alot. All it has to do is stall until turn 5 and your pretty much dead. We don't have the speed of rdw to kill it fast unless we are lucky and it rapes control decks.
Your best bet is to get lucky and draw into a bunch of ghasts and hopefully discard them, pop a land and swing as fast as you can.
So tomorrow, im going to be running the pre wwk deck with 1 abyssal in it to see how it does. Ill post a deck list and fnm results sometime tomorrow night or Saturday morn
hmmm, been playing BR for a while, but siince I play online I'm still using pre WWK lists, so no point in posting my current build (with no Hell Thunders though and more black than red, buts till plenty of burn, and duress MD)
still, I have to say it, not sure what the problem is here, online runeflare felt like the easiest match up ever, almost every spell in my deck deals damage, so even game one I outraced them easily, and duressed some burn/runeflare out of their hand
game two you duress some of their early plays (like the stones) or flares and then you TH the flares or other burn, plus with all the card draws I can usually hit them with various blightnings and keep building CA
on the other hand other match ups felt pretty hard, like black vampires and Jund, so unless the new additions like persecutor improve those match ups I might have to give up on playing BR aggro
peace, gl

Just a question for everyone here in general, when you got against vamps game 2 what in your opinion is a good side-in and side-out, I know chain reactions but I want to know what else you put in Thought Hemorrhage? Smother? And what do you take out, thanks

of course i side out a quake or two and replace them with chain reactions. as for the smothers, i take out duress and replace them with ghasts. i almost not side in thought hemo against vamps since spot removal takes care of those pesky critters, and nocturnus doesn't work 100% of the time, and so far i've been really lucky.

Yeah my main problem against vamps last time was I played ghast then he urge to feed it and I had 4 lands out and he had 4 and I knew he was gonna mind sludge next turn so I tapped out for persecutor then he sludged, then before I could get a 5th land to bring back bloodghast he gatekeepered and that happened 2 games in a row Mind SLudge turn 5 hurts alot that's why I was thinking Thought Hemorrhage

Has anyone tested this against the Runeflare Combo variants yet? I think it will be a bad MU for B/R aggro. Duress helps, so does thought hem, but I still think it has the potential to be one of your uglier matches.
In all my time playing this deck (pre-WWK), I have never lost to Runeflare combo, and I run into it often enough for this to carry weight. Mulligan aggressively into a Duress or Hemorrhage. Ideally, let a single Howling Mine drop to fuel you. KO any counterspells they may be running with Duress (though many lists don't even run em), Hemorrhage Runeflare Trap at the first opportunity, but don'tget lazy; they can still kill you by Twincasting Lightning Bolts. It's pretty straightforward from there. Drop them to 0 before they can do the same to you.

We are the middle children of history. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War is a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.
For the record I need summits and another reaches...lol
14 people, 4 rounds.
Round 1 vs weird vamps
game 1: We traded life with nighthawks a bit, but he had urge to feed and was using child of night and ruthless cullblade, no earthquakes in sight, he eventually got it, didn't help I had to mulligan and then kept a 2 land hand.
game 2: Put in duress' and thought hemo's over some bloodwitch and...I think kalastria/hexmage? Duressed away one of his 2 tendrils, he got out nocturnus late game but I held my own with terminate and then earthquaked for one to kill 3 of his creatures. He also main boards sanguine bond?
game 3: For whatever reason he decides to keep a one land hand, I get out 2 nighthawks, by the end of the game I have a little over 40 life, not much else to say, he also mained blade of the bloodchief O_o I think I had to mulligan the first 2 games...but I didn't the rest of the day =]
Round 2: Summoning trap.dek
game 1: This guy usually wins almost every week, he always plays some kind of deck that uses lotus cobra/noble hierarch/baneslayer etc. he drew crap first game, nothing but ramp and nothing to ramp into, double bloodghast picks away at his life since he doesn't want to block with his double cobras.
game 2: duress and deathmark x4 and 2 thought hemos, took out hexmages and kalastria's(considering maining duress) and a few other things I forget. first turn duress takes jace the mindsculptor, 2nd turn duress takes summoning trap, third turn blightning, followed by nighthawk and a few turns later another blightning to get rid of his last 1 in hand, once again he had nothing but birds of paradise and lotus cobra, easy win is easy.
now I'm feeling confident =D
round 3 my friend mike with naya lightsaber
we play it out without using our side boards and I take it 2-1 but we take the draw, so if we both win last round we both place. I don't remember much about the match except him having dragonmaster outcast(6 lands) and thoctar and noble hierarch, and I bolted thoctar then earthquaked for one, he ranger of eos'd to get 2 3/3 nacatl's which I terminated one eot then played gatekeeper, lavaclaw reaches eventually won it for me when it was nothing vs nothing. he plays one stirring wildwood which hit me for 4 2 turns in a row the one game, he had noble hierarch out. they were pretty good games, but had I sided I think I would have taken it much easier
round 4 vs my other friend (mike's brother, dave)
he plays GOOD vampires, he's 3-0 and I 2-0 him, but give him a win so we both place well, turns out my friend mike had to play summoning trap guy, and mike lost otherwise we all would have done well, I got first, and dave got 3rd. me and dave's match played out like a vampire mirror almost, since I play so many vamps, we both have life swings with nighthawk and such, and he gains so much life with tendrils, earthquake seals the deal, the fact it hits the dome makes it much better than chain reaction against most match ups imo.
Final result, 3-0-1
Pulled garbage in my packs.
So I'm feeling pretty good about the deck, but I may put in 4 duress over 2 kalastria and 2 hexmage...but then I would feel a bit lacking in the creature department, ya know? So I think I'll just leave it as is and continue to test with it, see how things go, disappointed I didn't draw my single chandra, she does good in testing and I'm never disappointed to draw into her. I really need to get summits so I can take this to a bigger tournament.
Round 1: Mono-Red Goblins
1) I won the roll. Killed everything that touched the table and eventually won out with a blightning and nighthawk.
2) No Boarding. Strangely he got land screwed at 2 and I crushed him with 3 blightnings.
Total: 1-0
Round 2: Naya
1) I won the roll. he dropped a turn 2 Thoctar curtsy of noble heirarch, I had the smother for it though. Dropped a bloodwitch after he dropped a baneslayer. we both were at a stand still till i drew a terminate for the win.
2) +4 Black Knight -4 Hells Thunder. The usual back and forth, he plays creatures and I kill them. However, eventually he sticks a baneslayer and its gg.
3) I drop 2 knights and 2 blightnings, he trys for baneslayer but I have a malakir. I eventually win with a 7dmg earthquake.
Total: 2-0
Round 3: Mono-White Aggro
1) I dont see a single removal spells and he lands 3 baneslayers.
2) +3 Thought Hemorrhage +4 Black Knight +2 Smother -1 Duress -4 Bloodghast -4 Hells Thunder. He trys to build up with the soldier allys but I drop an earthquake and wipe his board. I drop 2 Malakirs and a hemorrhage for baneslayer and he concedes.
3) I stick a black knight and keep him at bay with kill spells until I draw a Malakir. He drops 2 slayers but I top deck terminate 2 turns in a row.
Total: 3-0
Round 4: Crypt Control
1) I win the roll. He doesn't see a Crypt and I stomp with 2 Blightnings and 2 Nighthawks.
2) +3 Thought Hemorrhage -3 Earthquake. He boards in the convincing mirage spreading seas package and I get 6 of them. Not much else to say.
3) Again he get 4 of the enchantments but I manage to top deck enough land that I stick a Bloodwitch and a Nighthawk. I top deck a Thought Hemorrhage for Extractor Demon. He swings for 26 with the rest of his unearthers but im at 30 curtsy of nighthawk and kill him on the back swing.
Total: 4-0
Round 5: Vampires
1) He wins the roll. I duress him and take his Tendrils. We get into a stale mate of Nighthawks and Bloodghasts. I topdeck the removal and crush his throat.
2) +3 Thought Hemorrhage +1 Duress -4 Hells Thunder. I mull to 5 and he gets 3 Nocturnus. Not much else to say.
3) I get 2 Hemorrhages and 3 Blightnings. He concedes after the third blighting.
Total: 5-0
I am really happy with the way the deck is working, although as usual I made a last minute decision for my SB. I had 4 Ruinblaster but allys had been springing up so I switched to Fallout at the last minute. Ill probably switch back to 4 Ruinblasters since it hits a wider range of decks.
"Well, it's sort of orangey-yellow and dimpled on the outside, wet and squidgy in the middle. It's got pips inside, too. Oh, and some people have half a one for breakfast."
Yeah I was running 4 magma spray for vamps/rdw in my side and I decided to switch to black knights for mono white, since our match up against vamps is already pretty good, I'd like ruin blaster as well but I'm concerned about getting double red in my deck. Grats to the first place
first game i open with 2 bloodghast and a zendikon. he bolts the ghast i play another, he intimidating bolts one i play a land bring it back and make a land a 3/3. im a bit to quick and he cant come up with anything
2nd game hes able to hold me off for a bit drops ajani and follows with a DoJ. i draw into a couple ghasts and start swinging away. each of us are at 4 and he has the board wiped. i play a land bring back 3 ghasts and swing for the win.
match 2 vs Mr America 2-0
game 1 i play a ghast then on turn 3 a zendikon and swing for 5 he bolts the land and we are slowly getting there. he plays Jace2.0 way to early and i kill it. he DoJ at this point i have 2 ghasts in grave yard and play a land to bring them back. i swing he activates his land and blocks. i play a fleshbag after making him sac the land. persecutor gets there and he concedes.
game2 he gets mana screwed and zendikon hits for 12 nighthawk for 2 and 2 blightning for 6
match 3 vs Standard Dredge 0-2
game 1 i honestly thought about playing this deck instead because no one would have sb for it. the dude floors me and goes off on turn 6
game 2 i sb in hemorrhages and kezul but dont have the mana for the kazul and my hemorrhages get milled he floors me again.
match 4 vs jund 2-1
game 1 i outrace him thats all there is to it. im fortunate enough to have a couple ghasts and nighthawks.
game 2 zendikons are not doing well in this match because of the removal i get put behind on land due to bad plays and he ramps into a broodmate on turn 5
game 3 we are racing i drop a persecutor and it gets slammed with a terminate. down to the wire im at 3 hes at 4 i swing get in for 2 and blightning for the games.
top 8
game 1 vs standard dredge 2-0
i get to get a little revenge same guy that beat me. he gets a good early start i terminate his crab then kick a gatekeeper to kill his other crab on turns 2 and 3. he never sees a black source or crypt and i slame him 5 a turn with zendikon and gatekeeper. game ends on 7
game 2 he gets a decent start dumps a extractor in his yard but on turn 4 i play a hemorrhage and basically cripple his deck. he doesnt recover and get floored.
....iam playing quite similar build, with the same manabase, so far quite successfull, but still learning and testing variants....
I love the inclusion of Chandra...so versatile persey/creature/player killer...
...i played 2 splinters (was afraid of counterspells, but it was never needed) instead of her and 2 goblin assaults (love to kill with them, but was often siding them out), swamp, and 4th persey, instread of 4x duress...
I like your build, mostly MB Dueses, i often sideded in...
but Iam afraid of one thing... to cast spells with doubleR like ruinblaster and chain reaction (ruinblaster best on turn 4)... manabase is build to cast Gatekeeper, is deck stabile enought with RRspells ?...if yes, then awesome!
I like spamming with one persey after another... but playing 4 without splinters is probably too much... is the number 3 because of this?
what do you side out/in against Jund/Vampires/WW.... etc.
P.S: and its Malakir, not Malikar
Manabase is pretty solid, and RR isn't that hard to get T4 with 13 red sources.
Hay guys, I went to FNM last night with my old build which I posted before on page 4? Anyways Game 1 - I win against WR (not boros but still pretty hurty with Baneslayer, lots of burn and some other stuff) I went 2-0 there then lost to vamps 1-2 (mind sludge hurts once again) then I lost to esper cascade 0-2 control, he o-rings my nighthawks -.- mind controls my bloodwitch -.- and uses meddling mage 2x first persecutor, then terminate.
I've been testing a few builds without Persecutor and they seem to perform better against Jund and Vamps, seeing as those are the two most played in my meta + WW I think next FNM I will try one of those builds out or start messing with Mono-Green again or the new "Boss Zoo"

duress MB helps out a bit since racing against a turn 5 mind sludge hurts most especially when thought hemo costs 4 mana.
did a bit of testing with my pals at the local shop, went 3-1 against vamps, jund (almost lost here), WW allies, and lost to white weenie.

top4 we all split
What did you call with TH against Standard Dredge? I'm considering grim discovery... i know extractor is a good choice, but with ruinblaster, you could just let them mill themselves...
What are your thoughts on Corrupted Zendikon
If my relatively low knowledge on magic rules is accurate then this is possible.
T1:Land
T2:Bloodghast
T3:Corrupted Zendikon on a Land, Zendikon+Bloodghast swing for 5?
It can further justify running Grim Discovery in the deck (for Gatekeeper).
Seems kind of janky but might require testing?

corrupted zendikon as a card in itself is not that bad; it's a 3/3 for 1b. problem is playing a zendikon turn 2, only to have it killed end of turn basically means you wasted your resources and an entire turn just to miss a land drop.
Alright with the PT done for now I have some concerns. Mainly this new Stoneforge Mystic package everyone seems to be running, so im thinking about replacing ruinblaster with Demolish. It adds utility from the SB and is easier to cast. However, the lack of a body is painful. Then there is a third option, Pithing Needle. Right now im just kind of torn.
Anyone else have an opinion?
"Well, it's sort of orangey-yellow and dimpled on the outside, wet and squidgy in the middle. It's got pips inside, too. Oh, and some people have half a one for breakfast."
Just going off theory, but it seems like we would have a favorable match up against that deck, earthquake seems to hit them pretty significantly, along with side boarded deathmarks.
Edit: Speaking of boss naya of course.

Ill probably switch back to 4 Ruinblasters since it hits a wider range of decks.
i really like this build but i hate the fact people just call it vamps. but whatever play what i like

3x abyssal persecutor
2x ob nixilis, the fallen

3x grim discovery
3x thought hemorrhage
3x kazuul, tyrant of the cliffs

match 1 vs quellar stax 2-0
first game i open with 2 bloodghast and a zendikon. he bolts the ghast i play another, he intimidating bolts one i play a land bring it back and make a land a 3/3. im a bit to quick and he cant come up with anything
2nd game hes able to hold me off for a bit drops ajani and follows with a DoJ. i draw into a couple ghasts and start swinging away. each of us are at 4 and he has the board wiped. i play a land bring back 3 ghasts and swing for the win.
match 2 vs Mr America 2-0
game 1 i play a ghast then on turn 3 a zendikon and swing for 5 he bolts the land and we are slowly getting there. he plays Jace2.0 way to early and i kill it. he DoJ at this point i have 2 ghasts in grave yard and play a land to bring them back. i swing he activates his land and blocks. i play a fleshbag after making him sac the land. persecutor gets there and he concedes.
game2 he gets mana screwed and zendikon hits for 12 nighthawk for 2 and 2 blightning for 6
match 3 vs Standard Dredge 0-2
game 1 i honestly thought about playing this deck instead because no one would have sb for it. the dude floors me and goes off on turn 6
game 2 i sb in hemorrhages and kezul but dont have the mana for the kazul and my hemorrhages get milled he floors me again.
match 4 vs jund 2-1
game 1 i outrace him thats all there is to it. im fortunate enough to have a couple ghasts and nighthawks.
game 2 zendikons are not doing well in this match because of the removal i get put behind on land due to bad plays and he ramps into a broodmate on turn 5
game 3 we are racing i drop a persecutor and it gets slammed with a terminate. down to the wire im at 3 hes at 4 i swing get in for 2 and blightning for the games.
top 8
game 1 vs standard dredge 2-0
i get to get a little revenge same guy that beat me. he gets a good early start i terminate his crab then kick a gatekeeper to kill his other crab on turns 2 and 3. he never sees a black source or crypt and i slame him 5 a turn with zendikon and gatekeeper. game ends on 7
game 2 he gets a decent start dumps a extractor in his yard but on turn 4 i play a hemorrhage and basically cripple his deck. he doesnt recover and get floored.
top4 we all split
Tooth & Nail........Grishoalbrand....Living Dominance....Tezzerator.........Vannifar Pod
My Decks that have been BANNED
DRS Jund | Kiki-Pod | Bloom Titan | Splinter Twin | KCI
I have been doing a lot of online testing though, and this is what I've come to consider the ideal build:
3x Abyssal Persecutor
4x Gatekeeper of Malikar
4x Bloodghast
4x Vampire Nighthawk
Other Spells
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Duress
4x Terminate
2x Chandra Nalaar
4x Earthquake
4x Blightning
4x Dragonskull Summit
4x Lavaclaw Reaches
10x Swamps
5x Mountains
3x Thought Hemorrhage
2x Malikar Bloodwitch
2x Chain Reaction
3x Goblin Ruinblaster
3x Smother
2x Bonesplinters
This version doesn't really have bad matchups. As long as you play / mulligan / Sideboard appropriately, it's smooth sailing almost all the time.
Manabase is pretty solid, and RR isn't that hard to get T4 with 13 red sources.

3 Vampire Nighthawk
3 Malakir Bloodwitch
4 Bloodghast
4 Hell's Thunder
3 Bone Splinters
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Blightning
4 Terminate
2 Chain Reaction
2 Earthquake
4 Dragonskull Summit
2 Akoum Refuge
9 Swamp
5 Mountain
4 Black Knight
3 Smother
1 Malakir Bloodwitch
3 Deathmark
4 Goblin Ruinblaster

What did you call with TH against Standard Dredge? I'm considering grim discovery... i know extractor is a good choice, but with ruinblaster, you could just let them mill themselves...

Anyone else have an opinion?
Edit: Speaking of boss naya of course.
