Jeskai Approach just made the top 8 at the Pro Tour!!!!
No Gideon in his list and 2 Commit main. Pretty sweet looking sideboard. Hope he gets plenty of Twitch coverage tomorrow. Will be interesting to see him play and sideboard.
They use Revolutionary Rebuff in place of Censor which is sure to catch opponents expecting to pay 1
The list also relies less on Approach and more on Gideon and Gearhulk.
@kpal - Running The Locust God mainboard just doesn't' seem like it would help in most of our Game 1 match ups. Against aggro, he is going to be too slow. Drop him on turn 6, get your first token on turn 7 isn't going to help much. Against Temur/Sultai, I feel like we already are pretty heavy favorites game 1 so it would just be a win-more card. It would help in control/mirror match ups but right now that is only about 10% of the meta. And game one, everyone still have a ton of spot removal, so I almost feel like you would spend more time casting him than you would activating him. Game 2 and 3, I think he can take over some games. I am going to start testing him and may add him in my list for GP Atlanta.
The list looks pretty solid. Revolutionary Rebuff seems good, just comes down to if you would rather have the cycle ability of Censor or the Pay 2 or counter of Rebuff. Rebuff would be more relevant longer, playing around it would push your opponent back even more turns, I think it comes down to preference. I mainly use Censor as a cycling card but still try to hold one until turn 4-5 just to punish them if they try to jam something. But I will try it out and let you know.
We are an Established deck again!!! Congrats to us! I haven't had a chance to play in the last 2 weeks due to work, the last tourney I went 3-0 and won it, I hope to have free time again to play next week or the week after that!

Baral, Chief of Compliance can really be brought in against anything. For aggro, he is a 1/3 that does a decent job of blocking, not great but not bad. For everything else, all your stuff cost one less is very nice and the counter draw gets a little silly sometimes.
The Harness Lightning has made a big improvement to the list. 2 mana spot removal does so much work. Makes the aggro match up pretty even game 1. The card I have been testing the last few days that is stupid is The Locust God. He makes a great finisher, something that so far almost no one can deal with. And it is kinda hard not to laugh when you main phase a Pull From Tomorrow for x=6-8 and swing in with lethal.
Headed to the Atl GP this weekend and going to run Jeskai there. Will spend Friday doing side events to work out the numbers and with any luck get a few byes for Saturday. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Currently Playing UW UW Control/Miracles R Skred Red
Good luck at the GP - I'll be looking out for any Approach decks in the standings.
I played a local standard tournament using UW Approach and won it last Saturday. The best bit was beating a pretty angry player running a Dinosaur deck.
He usually plays Modern and is by all accounts pretty good at it, and probably expected a free win against me (I'm reasonably new to Magic compared to most at my LGS and don't really play "real" formats like Modern). Unfortunately for him I basically drew exactly what I needed, when I needed it, in both games - completely shutting him down until I could Approach. He scooped up game 2 when he had about 15 lands in play from multiple Settle the Wreckages, no creatures and was topdecking. I had so many cards in hand that if he drew something I didn't like I could Glimmer/Supreme Will to find the answer and just say 'No'. Perfect!
He was pretty keen to point out that this isn't a REAL strategy and PROPER players wouldn't use this deck and he couldn't wait for the next round to PLAY SOME MAGIC instead of what I was doing.
So that was fun It's one of the first times I've had such a strong reaction to me playing a control deck - is this the norm in anyone else's local meta?
Needless to say, I'm going back this week and hoping to play him again, with a few small tweaks to the deck and particularly the sideboard.
Moneky, where can we find your current list? Aether Meltdown might be useful in UWR to help build energy for Harnessed lightning. Meltdown has been useful to me so far in UW.
What I do not like about the PT UWR list is NO Gideon.
I tried Baral in just UW approach. It didnt really live up to expectations. i think you want that card with harnessed lightning as a must. Not convinced yet by the red splash tbh. The UWR approach deck didnt have the best standard record something like 6-4 so i would read too much into his list. Also no fumigates seems wrong. Multiple times he got punished by that choice. Good players will play around the card then it just becomes a 4 mana path whereby you need to draw it multiple times
Basically the uwr list adds 2 things to this deck: harness lightnings and locust god.
Harness lightnings are legit, as I have found the 2 drop removal spot to be the weak point of the deck. I don't feel like locust God is that big of an inclusion.
However I don't feel like harness lightnings add enough to the deck to justify messing with the mana base.
Which direction should Approach go? Here are the four options:
Azorius (UW) aka the vanilla list:
2 x Torrential Gearhulk
1 x Gideon of the Trials
4 x Censor
4 x Supreme Will
4 x Glimmer of Genius
4 x Settle the Wreckage
3 x Fumigate
3 x Approach of the Second Sun
1 x Authority of the Consuls
3 x Aether Meltdown
2 x Search for Azcanta
4 x Cast Out
2 x Field of Ruin
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Irrigated Farmland
8 x Island
7 x Plains
Jeskai (UWR) aka the Pro Tour list:
2 x Torrential Gearhulk

2 x Commit // Memory
2 x Search for Azcanta
4 x Aether Hub
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Inspiring Vantage
4 x Irrigated Farmland
6 x Island
4 x Spirebluff Canal
Pros:
1. Harnessed Lightning
2. Locust God
3. Pirateclasm
Cons:
1. Less-reliable mana
2. Energy reliant to a degree
Bant (UGW) aka the Ramp list:
4 x Approach of the Second Sun
4 x Fumigate
4 x Hour of Promise
4 x Spring // Mind
1 x Pull from Tomorrow
1 x Settle the Wreckage
4 x Supreme Will
3 x Thaumatic Compass // Spires of Orazca

2 x Desert of the Indomitable
1 x Hashep Oasis
4 x Ipnu Rivulet

3 x Sunpetal Grove
Pros:
1. One of your ramp spells provides a small amount of life gain
2. Can play more expensive cards
Cons:
1. Less-reliable mana
2. Little interaction
Esper (UBW) aka the Scarab God list:
1 x The Scarab God
4 x Censor
1 x Disallow
2 x Essence Scatter
4 x Fatal Push
4 x Glimmer of Genius
3 x Opt
2 x Settle the Wreckage
3 x Supreme Will
3 x Approach of the Second Sun
2 x Fumigate
4 x Cast Out
2 x Search for Azcanta
4 x Drowned Catacomb
2 x Fetid Pools
2 x Field of Ruin
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Irrigated Farmland
4 x Island
4 x Plains
1 x Swamp
Well, by virtue of consistency, probably just blue-white. The mana is excellent.
Esper probably brings the most 'potential' to the table, however the mana can be really slow.
We know that the deck sorely needs a good 1-2 mana removal spell to slow down opposing decks. Aether Meltdown can slow them down, but doesn't do a whole lot against, say, a Winding Constrictor. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I found Esper's mana to be an issue when I was doing testing. The only fast land is Concealed Courtyard and it doesn't tap for U.
I don't mean to be the Internet superhero but I really don't like Matignon's list. I feel like he was running that because he is a Draw-Go player and it was something that most of the pro's there were not excepting. Just my 2 cents.
@devtin - I agree with you about Baral, I tried him and when he worked it was great but after a lot of testing, he did not make my 75. But I do disagree with you about Harness. My list is mainly a U/W with 4 harness mainboard. It makes all the difference. I have tried almost turning it into a U/R with a splash of white for approach and everything in between. All the standard list really needs is some spot removal. Harness can hit early and is still very relevant late game also. The mana base is very smooth. Yes, it is a 3 color deck and sometimes that does bite me in the butt, but not very often.
Mainboard I am pretty set. Just float between the 4th Glimmer, the 4th Disallow or the 6th board wipe. Still trying to decide what I want to do with my sideboard. I can go a pretty standard U/W but add in some Abrade or Magma Spray. Or I can go all in on switching to almost a midrange deck with really impactful creatures. Going to take both to the GP and try them out tomorrow. Will decide which one I play Saturday after I am there.
Ugh, I sell my search and gearhulk thinking this deck is dead in standard, then it top 8s the pro tour...at least I already have the manabase for jeskai.
I'll need another week to buy back in and start grinding standard.
@Meecht I'm not entirely sure if he is or not. I'm a fan of having an additional wincon game 1 aside from Approach. Is Gideon better in the 3-color version game 1 or would Gearhulk be better?
I still like Gideon. He does not win very many G1 but he does keep me from losing them. He prevents a ton of damage and gives them someone to swing at for a few turns instead of me. Kinda funny fighting over him when I really don't care about it him. Force them into over committing to kill him. Then Fumigate or drop Approach. I like him G1 a lot better than gearhulk because G1 everyone has some sort of creature hate, Gideon ignore it but hulk eats it.
As far as mana, usually I can cast harness on 2 and Gideon on 3 without much problem. But most times I wait to drop him until later, just depends on the board and what I have in my hand. Only time I drop him on 3 is if I have nothing else in my hand that I can cast or if I am trying to bait out a counter.

I'm feeling pretty good about the desert/lifegain UW list that was written up here, and will be taking it to a PPTQ or two this weekend.
Question: has anyone tested out Angel of Sanctions in the SB with a UW list? With all the lifegain that we can get through Desert's Hold, Renewed Faith, Fumigate, and Ritual of Rejuvenation, I don't know that Regal Caracal or Sunscourge Champion are needed vs. Aggro, and the disruption and evasion that the Angel provides (not to mention the 6-mana buyback) seems like legit tech against many of the top creature-based and tokens-based decks. Just wondering if anyone has tried it out and found it worse/better than the standard sideboard options.
I managed to get Top 8 at a recent PPTQ but didnt bother to write it up. I have been having great success with the following list online. I manage to have chained consistent 4-1 with this list. A lot of the numbers i feel fairly certain on such as the number of searches and the sweeper package but others such as farm//market are meta numbers and can be adjusted accordingly. Will be playing this in the PPTQ this weekend

Has anyone tested Perilous Voyage, possible over Meltdown? More universal removal is always good, and tempo seems better against RR to make it harder for them to swing with Hazoret.
Tried a league last night went 3-2, beating Temur 2-0, Sultai Energy 2-1, and Ramunap Red 2-0, I lost to Temur Enigma Drake and Temur 1-2 (drew pretty poorly in G3).
I want to test out the Jeskai version, and start dropping the deserts since UB is on the decline, I still like Desert's Hold but maybe the ETB tapped lands aren't where I'd want to be with the updated versions of this deck. The only loss in the league that I felt really unfavored in was against Enignma drake (was the PT version, a la miracle grow). 11/4 flyers were decent follow up to my wraths, and meltdown looked hilariously bad here.
Vs Ram Red I mulled to 5 and still got there, I do htink my version is very good against aggro. The last time I played this deck was my Top 8 PPTQ finish 2 weeks ago, Since then I've been on a bunch of different decks with my team.
Maybe the non desert version is fine now, but I like the holding pattern effect this has on the board state. Shutting down Glint Sleeves, forcing opponents to over extended into my wraths is how I like playing approach. It's not the only way, and I will modify the PT list to include Fumigate, like seriously, the deck needs this sweeper in main.
