Watanabe plays both.

I think he was trending towards a RG Energy + Aetherworks deck which would be able to respond OK to aggro and OK to control especially post-sideboard and could sometimes combo off with early Marvel.

Well Nissa, Vital Force does cost 1 mana less than Chandra, Flamecaller. There are pros and cons to this. Nissa provides single attacker while Chandra two. Chandra deals 1 more damage than Nissa. Nissa's +1 made our land vulnerable to creature removal, and I don't think I would want that. Chandra able to wipe the board. Nissa able to retrieve puzzleknots to gain more energy.

Longtusk Cub is a great early beater, energy producer and able to grow bigger but I think I want to test out using Voltaic Brawler instead. We have so many energy producer, so dealing 4 damage each turn is a threat to control. Tireless Tracker is also a good card as a beater and card advantage, but I think I also want to test out with Bristling Hydra instead, see how it goes. The only time spot removal able to kill it is to bait one turn and kill it the next turn, or when our energy runs out to protect it. Otherwise, they need board wipe or forced us to sac it.

Ultimately, this is the deck list I've settled for this weekend. I really like the idea of Ever After with Cathartic Reunion. I've added Collective Brutality as an additional discard outlet. I made sure to keep the main energy producers without sacrificing on scry and dig abilities.

Emrakul or Ulamog didn't get cast trigger upon Eldritch Evolution, and too vulnerable to Spell Queller, sacrifice for nothing. I faced this with Cathartic Reunion and it was just painful.

My GPKL report, 4-5. Very poor and did a lot of mistakes.

R1 and R2 : Bye
R3 vs Esper Midrange (0-2) : Made 2 mistakes here. 1) Had 3 card types in graveyard, should have cast Kozilek's Return first and activate Marvel, got an Ishkanah but I did the other way round. 2) His 4 attackers vs my 4 blockers from Ishkanah and tokens, I cast Kozilek's Return, killing only 1 of his board and that cost me the game.
R4 vs RB Aggro (1-2) : Game 2 pulled off T4 Ulamog despite Lost Legacy named Emrakul in the previous turn. Super lucky, but my luck ran out in game 3. Both stuck with 2 lands for a while, continuously got hit by Bomat and burn spells, played 3 Woodweaver's Puzzleknot to stall but not enough. I got my 4th land a fast land and I was one turn away.
R5 vs Temur Colossus (1-2) : It just the matter of who assembled the combo pieces first and I failed to do so. My mistake in game 3 was that, I know he had Ceremonious Rejection when I milled his deck in game 1, but in game 2, I still cast Marvel with him having one open mana from Cultivator's Caravan.
R6 vs WR Vehicle (1-2) : Game 3 he curved so well, nothing much I can do.
R7 vs Grixis Control (2-1) : Lost game 1 due to tardiness. Both game 2 pulled off Ulamog in T4. Game 3 pulled off Emrakul with Dispel and Negate as protection.
R8 vs GW Midrange (2-1) : Mistake in game 1 was to allow Blossoming Defense to resolve after she asked me how many energy to spend from Harnessed Lightning. It happened again in game 3, so the Blossoming Defense did not happen. Game 2 mistake was +1 Gideon and thought Fairgrounds Warden able to exile it.
R9 vs Mardu Vehicle (0-2) : He played well and wide. Game 1 Marvel did not hit and game 2 Kozilek's Return was countered by Ceremonious Rejection.

I think some pro should combine RG energy with Aetherworks.

Those control decks let you resolve Marvel and its Hit?

Here's the version I've been playing for the last couple weeks with good success. FNM was a 4-0 and gameday was 4-1 finishing first. The main thing I wanted to do was play Engulf the Shores with Aetherworks Marvel because I feel like its the best "sweeper" in the format now. With all of the graveyard synergies and aggressive strategies, a 4 mana instant speed bounce is better than trying to one for one creatures or cast a 5 mana sorcery speed board wipe. It also works well with the creature base in that if you whiff on one of your finishers, it will bounce your own creatures and you can replay them to get your energy again. So here's the list.

The crane is the card I'm thinking of switching out right now because bottoming your finishers feels horrible, may just add the meltdowns or glimmers in.

Why don't these decks play and splash white?

So last FNM I ended up playing Bant Aetherworks and 2-0'd all my matches until the top 4, where we eventually split (top 8 didn't want to split). I never sideboarded too, I never felt like I needed to. However, I never played against a control deck, so there's that. I think I'm going to continue playing the deck at my LGS since there is a lot of GB Delirium decks, and every game playing against that deck it felt like it was utterly hopeless for them. Here's the list I played:



As I said, I never sideboarded and I'm going to change it (the sideboard) now that I know what to expect in the future so I don't think there's a point to posting it. Virtually every card in the deck overperformed except for Confiscation Coup, which was just okay. I'm definitely going to replace it with another copy of Drowner of Hope. Other than that, the only thing I thought about changing in the maindeck was possibly the Port Town for another Prairie Stream, but it sometimes was better than Prairie Stream. Not sure. So I'm going to keep the manabase like this for now. The matchups were as followed:

2-0 GB Delirium. Game one he had like no pressure except for a t3 Grim Flayer (his first two lands came in tapped) and I resolved a Tamiyo, Field Researcher on t4, drew some cards, then played Aetherworks Marvel on t6-7 and after that he had absolutely no chance of winning the game. Game two I resolved a t4 Aetherworks Marvel with six energy into an Emrakul, the Promised End. Game over.

2-0 Five Color Panharmonicon Gearhulks. Yeah. This deck was REALLY sweet, I almost felt like I should just concede out of respect for the sweet brew. There was a distinct possibility he could've "combo'd" me before I got the Aetherworks Marvel running both games, but he got stuck on lands and I Cataclysmic Gearhulk'd away all his stuff during my Emrakul, the Promised End turn. Don't know what else to say about this matchup. Oh yeah, I also saw him resolve a Bring to Light into Cloudblazer against another person. Goddamn I want that list.

2-0 Temur Emerge. Really scary matchup. Game one I didn't find Aetherworks Marvel in time, but I kept the tempo with Spell Quellers and Tamiyo, Field Researcher drawing me cards and tapping his stuff down. Drowner of Hope helped me beat an Ishkanah, Grafwidow for a while until he eventually drew and cast his own Emrakul, the Promised End, taking my turn and essentially destroying me. He also activated a Kozilek's Return upon her cast, wiping the board. Once it got back to my turn again, I topdecked a Descend Upon the Sinful, wiped his Eldrazi titan, his next turn was anemic (his Smuggler's Copters couldn't attack into my 4/4 angel token), then topdecked my own Emrakul and won the game. Tight stuff. Game two I got a turn 4 Aetherworks Marvel and crushed him. That's pretty much how it goes sometimes.

2-0 UW Flash/Midrange.I was afraid this matchup would be hard, but game one I was on the play with a t3 Aetherworks Marvel thanks to Servant of the Conduit (I wanted to prevent him from leaving up Spell Queller mana on t4 in preparation for my Marvel) and that's all she wrote. Game two I was kept on the backfoot thanks to Spell Quellers and Smuggler's Copter beats until I drew a Descend Upon the Sinful and wiped his board t6, getting back my two Quell'd cards and eventually closing the game out with midrange beats and a hardcast Emrakul, the Promised End.

2-0 GB Delirium. This matchup is so disgustingly good for an Aetherworks Marvel deck it's not even really worth talking about to be honest. Hold them off until you find Marvel or cast Emrakul several times in a row. I ult'd Tamiyo, Field Researcher in one of these matches too, real disgusting stuff.

Top 8 was another GB Delirium. Read above.

So yeah, I'm definitely playing this deck moving forward considering there is so little control at my LGS. Sidenote: Lumbering Falls beats was one of the funnier experiences I've had in a while.

Yes, the matchup isn't as good as it is with the Temur version (Kozilek's Return is very good against them and that deck gets very consistent t4-5 Aetherworks Marvel activations), but it gets significantly better post board if you're expecting it. I was expecting control and vehicle decks at my LGS and that wasn't the case at all (thankfully), so my entire sideboard was dedicated to those matchups. Bant has access to some really good sideboard cards.

Unfortunately my previous list did not perform well 2 weeks ago so I reverted back to the ProTour Kaladesh's Top8 Temur Aetherworks. I took first place at my local LGS last Friday. My mainboard still includes a copy of Ever After, Desolation Twin and a few black sources for lands. I performed miraculously well against Mardu Vehicles, GB Delirium, and UW Flash. I had my sideboard ready for them.

My LGS has plenty of aggro and midrange decks. I've tweaked my sideboard to deal with the heavy aggro meta: Harnessed Lightning, Tears of Valakut, and Radiant Flames. I also included a Plains and a 1-of Refurbish. I admit that Control are the hardest MUs.

Keep playing UW Flash if you want to get an edge over people IMO. Just change your sideboard with Ishkanah, Grafwidow in mind, because that's your only real enemy in this format besides the RB deck (that deck can run game on you hard). If your local meta has a lot more GB Delirium, then Aetherworks Marvel can crush them pretty hard, but the UW Flash matchup or blue-based control is difficult for the deck. It's definitely winnable, but you need to dedicate a lot of sideboard slots for it.

I play Bant Aetherworks, which gives me a much better matchup versus the aforementioned bad ones at the cost of not immediately crushing the GB decks on sight.

Sweet sideboard tech for your UW Flash deck if you run 4 Gideon, Ally of Zendikars: Descend Upon the Sinful. Clears Ishkanah, Grafwidows and Emrakul, the Promised Ends for days. It's been overperforming hard in my Bant Aetherworks deck like crazy, I'm thinking of trying to squeeze in a third copy.

Red Green version seems promising. Plus, BG delirium arising so I guess Aetherworks in good position against it.



I personally don't quite prefer Cathartic Reunion from bad experience. I always thought World Breaker would fit in somehow to stabilize the curve. Less explosive than Ulamog, but at least can be cast.

I really love the aetherworks marvel deck but with U/W flash and U/x control deck taking a large portion of competitive standard meta is this deck really still a good choice? I've been brewing every day to no success trying to find the right composition against U/W and control. Has anyone have any success yet?

Why Chandra is good in this deck:
1. She helps the deck to have a chance to win game 1 against control.
2. She helps to achieve delirium.
3. She helps with ramp and sometimes as removal.

I play the same list but with a split of 2 Emrakul/2 Ulamog with also 2 World Breaker and Chandra does a lot of work.

BTW, Brad playing R/G aetherworks (jaberwocki's list) just demolished Todd Anderson playing U/W flash in the VS video, 5-0.

So far it seems to work well but Summary Dismissal is just so powerful against this deck. That has been my one stumbling block so far.

Shrines wont help you cast Em faster because you need 7 lands. Just get Delirium and make Em cost 7 or 6.

So Aetherworks Marvel is a thing again. Now it's time to figure out the mirror match sideboard.

Need to see your sideboard but one of the best card against control is Chandra and you need to play at least 2. Tireless tracker is also excellent against control.
