Hey there, this was my first magic deck, has served me well in completing daily quests and doing Bo1 constructed event to earn more gold and cards.
I think I've finally grinded enough cards/wild cards to make another deck.
Any recommendations on a logical next deck to progress to from mono blue tempo? I don't necessarily mean, using some of the same cards, although, that would be nice. I just mean, something that is also viable, maybe a bit more advanced/powerful, that is also fun/skillful like this deck.
I guess what I like about this deck is, you can get by sometimes with a relatively low amount of lands, so, getting mana screwed feels like it happens just a bit less with this deck. I've started with 1 land hands before and won, due to the make up of the rest of my hand.
I also like the counter play here, so, holding back a turn to set up minion so I'll have the extra mana to protect my minion and just holding back a bit of mana each time for my opponent's turn to protect my minions. That back and forth has been fun.
Having said that, I like that this deck, when things go well, can go pretty fast and isn't a super long, drawn out chore either.
Thanks for any suggestions, I'll probably keep playing this deck as well, but would like to explore/learn a little more since I'm still brand new to Magic.
I love the new Essence Capture and the Salamander Drake cards for Mono-Blue Tempo. They both fit in very nicely for what the deck wants to do. The Salamander's Adapt cost might be too high though. We'll see.
I think there are some good upgrades in the new set already for this deck, yeah. Incubation for the tutor alone is probably worth it (although if you add a couple dual lands, the pongify is a nice option to give you just a hair more flexibility). I think this deck will see a boost, but it'll depend on how the meta evolves as well.

Requires 2 Islands, a one drop, a curious obsession, and hopefully a Dive Down or Spell Pierce.
2) Get a Tempest Djinn, and do beats.
Requires 3 Islands and a Tempest Djinn
Sure, it can spam together a swarm, or counterspell the critical opponent spells, but it's hard.
The deck lacks Beef.
Sphinx is SO GOOD because it supports both win conditions, AND it's a 3rd win condition.
Sphinx finds missing cards to support the turn 1 Dude, turn 2 Curious & Protect
Sphinx finds the extra land, and Djinns to support the flying beats
Sphinx is the missing 4 power Beef, especially when the Djinn die.

About the spoilers:
Incubation looks fine for the deck but opting at the end of opponent's turn is valuable too. For the other half I don't know if splashing a color worth it because it make our biggest threat weaker.
What do you think about eyes everywhere ? Seems to be a little expensive but handle a permanent and prevent flooding/ screwing..does it worth a sideboard slot?
Splashing is just not a great idea when playing Tempest Djinn
eyes everywhere is an interesting card, but just not strong enough.
There have been similar cards before, in particular Search for Azcanta. Very similar effect, and cheaper.
Yet, Search for A is just not quite what this deck wants.
Compare Eyes Everywhere with the card I have been frothing about, Sphinx of Foresight
The sphinx has the same "scry 1" ability as an afterthought, but also has a way strong Pregame ability, and a 4/4 flyer body for an extra U.

The main Kick of EE costs 6, and while that can happen, only playing 20 land makes that really unlikely in most situations.

Reduce sentinel totem to 2. Essence Capture Not sure if that's gonna be a full 4 of in the deck, I could see 2, but Wizard's Retort will bin everything. Have you tried 2 Chart A Course instead of the Opt?

I'm not sure about running 4x Sphinx, 4 mana is a lot for this deck, however it merits testing. What I definitely don't agree with is 4x Essence Capture over Wizard's Retort, 4x creature-only counters are a huge liability, there's a reason why nobody runs 4x Essence Scatter in this deck. My suggestion would be running 2 of those and 4xWizard's Retort, and make sure you test Quench, it's not Mana Leak but the versatility is a huge strong point. Another card I'd suggest trying is everyone's favorite Simic aberration, depending on how the meta shifts it may be able to fight Mist-Cloaked Herald for its spot, 90% of the time it does the same thing, and the Adapt ability can shine in long games where it may end up costing 3U or something manageable like that.
Pteramander probably takes mist cloak herald, yeah. Unless you draw curious obsession basically from the get go (so you get that card draw going) and they have flyers, it's definitely better. And as a mid game draw, a 5/5 flyer is a threat that can't be lava coiled.
I'd probably test out a straight swap, unless you go against crazy amounts of flyers.
I think that now we can really think about a white splash for Sky Tether, even more if we want to go Herald->Pteramander (and i agree too): it's the perfect removal for this deck against almost everything except Trostani and -obv- Niv-Mizzet.
