Why is everyone running so few lands? I see a lot of 20-21 land decks on this thread, but then when you look online at all of the decks doing well, they're running 23. Why so land light everyone?
If you scroll through it, you'll see mention of a 7-1 deck. They provide a deck tech at the bottom that has only 20 lands. I think 20-21 is about the right number, but I'm not a pro. I run 21 in mine and have flooded more than once.
I think the decklist they have is pretty gosh-darn spicy. I really like the synergy of Bontu and everything else in this deck. You would essentially have four indestructible creatures in the deck with 8 other bodies that can come back (not to mention the vehicles). I like the idea that the deck has game against Tokens (the only match I hate playing).
Seems like Bone Picker is part of the core. I played with it last night and it came down in ridiculous fashion as a turn two play. Fatal Push into Picker feels pretty good.
Round 1 U/B Control
Game 1: I get him to 8 life using fatal pushes to "counter" varaska's contempt. I spend the next dozen turns recurring dread wanderer before he kills me with gearhulks.
I boarded out 4 bone picker, and 4 fatal push for 4 gifted aetherborn, 1 walk the plank, 1 supernatural stamina, and 2 lost legacy
Game 2: Fast start 1 drop into 2 drop into ruin raider.
Game 3: He got stuck on 3 lands and couldn't stabalize.
Round 2: Construct aggro.
Really didn't get this deck, it was grixis colored.
Game 1: He goes bomat courier into metallic mimic into walking ballista for 0 to slow my board down. But bone picker and heart of kiran managed to get there.
I really didn't know how to board for this deck, so I swapped glint-sleeve for gifted aetherborn.
Game 2: He had 4 metallic mimics and I didn't have 4 fatal push.
Game 3: I was on the draw. Opening hand was 2 swamps and all 2 drops. Next hand was swamp 3 dread wanderer, walk the plank, and scrapheap scrounger. I kept it and scryed a fatal push to the bottom. Didn't draw land on my first turn but did so on the second so triple dread wanderer got there.
Round 3: Temur energy
Game 1: On the draw. We trade guys for a while specifically all 4 of my ruin raiders, but I can't kill him before he gets a glory bringer down. I have 2 one drops and a ruin raider which dies instantly. I think I'm dead, but he stops playing spells. I manage to kill the glory bringer with 2 deadlands over 2 turns and close out the game.
Boarded out 4 glint-sleeve 2 vicious conquistadors 4 scrapheap scroungers for 4 gifted aetherborn, 3 harsh scrutiny, 1 key to the city, 1 walk the plank, and 2 supernatural stamina
Game 2: Fast start with both key to the city and ruin raider out. Eventually get him to 5 with 2 night market lookouts and a ruin raider.
Double draw into top 8 go in as the number 1 seed.
Quarter finals: Up against tokens. Both games he doesn't get anointer priest and I manage to push through with bone pickers.
Semi-finals: Monowhite vampires. I did not like this matchup going in. I only had some knowledge of the deck from the pro tour so my sideboarding plan wasn't that good.
Game 1: I get the fast start of dread wanderer into scrapheap scrounger into scrounger one drop. He can't keep pace
I board out the glint-sleeves and 3 scroungers for gifted aetherborn, walk the plank, supernatural stamina, and key to the city. I agonized over harsh scrutiny but I felt that if I slowed the deck down too much I would lose to random 2/2s.
Game 2: I get dread wander and heart of kiran down with a bone picker to crew it. But he gets oketra's momument and mavren fein down and has settle the wreckage to stop my attacks. Eventually he gets an angel of invention down and I lose.
Game 3: I get a dread wanderer down and he has a andanto vanguard. I make a mistake and fatal push in response to the indestructible ability when he blocks. My thought was that the 8 life was too much. I had a bone picker in my hand so I thought at him at 10 bone picker would get there. But he manages to get both metallic mimic and mavren fein down and the small amount of life gain stalls me out and I can't push through.
Final record 4-1-2. I really liked the deck. The explosive draws are great and with both glint sleeve and ruin raider it can generate card advantage really well. The changes I would make are cutting 1 ruin raider for a 3rd yahenni. I only saw him once but when he showed up it was game warping. I would also swap the gifted aetherborn and glint-sleeve siphoners. I think this is a meta call. I was expecting more control so having another card draw engine was useful.
Hey everyone! So I just built B/r Aggro and I took it out for a spin for the first time yesterday at my LGS FNM. The results were pretty bad. I went 1-3 only beating a U/R control deck. I went against Sultai energy, UW God pharaohs gifts and mono red Aggro. I wanted to ask what are some cards to switch out with these matchups. I felt like I was oversideboarding when I was taking out my looks out and conquistadors to put in sideboard cards but lowering my creature count in the process. I found god pharaohs gifts to be a really tough match up. Here my deck list with sideboard for reference. Thanks!
Played against two UB Midrange and 1 Sultai Energy. I really like this deck.
One game I had one Fatal Push and 3 Bone Picker in hand on turn 4 with 4 swamp on play. Fatal push his creature, play 3 Bone Picker. This deck is really fast. Sometine they scoop by turn 4.
There nothing more depressing than wasting a removal on Kitesail Freebooter to then have it save by Supernatural Stamina and steal a better card that he draw later.

That is actually really great, I like that idea quite a bit. In my time with this deck I have found that it has a major weakness in that our dudes are so weak to the opponent's cards, but being able to take their best cards and force removal is actually really strong. I have found that I side the Freebooters in quite a lot in my own list and can't believe I didn't think to just include them in the main. I'll definitely try that out.
What happen if someone Magma Spray one of my creature and I answer with a Supernatural Stamina?
your creature will exile. magma spray is a replacement effect, supernatural stamina is a death trigger. since it exiles and there is no death trigger, stamina does not bring it back
Played this at FNM. Beat BR aggro (mostly ramunap with some black thrown in), GW cats (did a lot of nothing both games), and a janky BR artifacts build. Lost to UB flying pirate aggro. Felt like I had a lot of answers, but was really unsure how to run the sideboard. Most wins were with minimal sideboard cards.
I'd like to point out that, I think this thread is talking about two different decks. The pure black aggro is a different deck and feel from the BR aggro that is in the primer. I don't that I've seen much in the way of the BR from the primer at all in high level events. Am I just missing it?
