Standard constructed night report (2-1) Won vs RG Energy (2-1) - Close game. He played too safe, expecting I have removal in hand and Aetherworks Marvel was late and missed Eldrazi hit on first activation. Luckily I had 4 energy left, I took another Aetherworks Marvel to gain extra 2 energy and activate again, and hit. Won vs GW Tokens (2-0) - He had a slow hand for both games and I curved well. Lost vs GW Tokens (0-2) - Karma. I had a bad hand in both games and he curved well and fast.
The deck really feels unstable. Lacking of interaction and combo off too slow could happen. Hitting Ulamog or Emrakul does not ensure an auto win, like normal combo deck does. White decks have been playing Stasis Snare for this.
Some dilemma I have in cards that at times, it provides synergy but also could end up making things worst to you.
Contingency Plan - Best card that smooths your draws and throw away the unnecessary, but in late games, you might wished that you could draw the cards off your top deck especially when you are one turn away to win. Cathartic Reunion - It is nice when you can discard Kozilek's Return or Eldrazi that you can't cast to draw Aetherworks Marvel, but drawing more Eldrazis after discarding them just reduced the hitting percentage later.
I'm still thinking that the u/g version is betters than others.
I love that kind of argument Maybe you can say something more about it?
I'm playing RUG version with 3 Aether Meltdowns main - this card is great! It can be found from Vessel, played on instant on everything we want, unlike Harnessed Lightning it will be removal and will get us 2 egergies no matter what. Later in game it can get us 1 energy counter from Marvel's trigger. I strongly reccomend it
FNM report (2-1) Lost vs UW Control (0-2) - Game 1 got hit by 3 Spell Queller 3 turns consecutively. I think it's a bad match up plus my poor sideboarding choices. Won vs GW Tokens (2-0) - It was a slower version and the match up was favourable. Won vs Mardu Aggro (2-1) - Game 1 curved perfectly. Game 2 lost literally do nothing. Game 3 was lucky, I curved well and had 2 Aetherworks Marvel when he Transgress the Mind.
Most of my hit tonight was the 6th card of the top six Marvel's activation.
Underperformed card Harnessed Lightning - As mentioned above, Aether Meltdown can be the better card because of Vessel of Nascency. The deck hardly wants a spot removal. Reduce damage and stall the game would suffice.
Sideboard cards were actually just throw anything I feel suitable. I feel that the deck might shift towards creature-based energy provider, maybe, towards midrange-combo type instead of pure combo to make it less explosive but more consistent. Maybe emerge as an alternative, but the list is too tight and doing so may just transform it into a whole different deck.
I'm going to do a bold prediction: Ux Control will make a serious come back to battle Marvel decks (counter spells on the early energy producers, but not Crane ; and when you play the Marvel, they'll either counter it if you have enough energy, or play Confiscation Coup on their turn to take it away from you).
Oh... and Lost Legacy is now probably better than it was before...
I know, but it can exile Eldrazis, and make Marvel a suddenly much worse card (odds of revealing an Eldrazi move from 60% to 30%).
Oliver Liu's Temur Marvel won vs Grixis Colossus. But Yuuya Watanabe's Bant and Ari Lax's Temur both lost to Jeskai Control and Grixis Emerge respectively with their Aetherworks decks.
I'm eager for final results. The deck seems fun (and good, if Pro Tour players' choice of deck is any indication), but requires a lot of luck. CoCo looked at 6 cards to play two for free, while Aetherworks Marvel does the same for only one card. CoCo played 25 cards to successfully hit with it, and it failed sometimes. Aetherworks seems happy with only 8 Eldrazis and a lot more variance. When it hit, it's a instant win however...
I analyzed the results deeper, to see the Standard results of the Pro Players that are playing Aetherworks Marvel. Oliver Tiu, Ari Lax and Yuuya Watanabe all had an amazing 9 points at the end of round 3 (3-0 in draft). And after round 8 (and 5 rounds of Standard), they respectively are at 15, 12 and 18 points. So they did 2-3, 1-4 and 3-2 with their Constructed deck. Good, but not great. We'll have to wait and see the end results tomorrow, but I won't be impressed by Standard decks who made top 8 on the back of flawless draft results (like it was the case last Pro Tour where a Lukas Blohon's WB Control did 7-2-1 in Standard, while a Temurge deck did 9-0-1 and an Izzet Machinegun deck did 9-1-0 but none qualified for top 8 due to bad draft results). It looks to me like some good players gambled their Pro Tour with their deck, instead of reliable Midrange or Control strategies. Will it pay off?
I think they lost to Ux Midrange or Control... could these be the best contenders for top 8? Shota Yasooka was undefeated in both draft and Standard with a Grixis Control deck...
I'm considering selling my 3 Aetherworks Marvel at the currently hyped price (and ready to be totally wrong at the end of the day!).
My version with Panharmonicon are very consistent. I only play Red splash for Kozilek's return. If Panharmonicon is in play, with Glint-Nest Crane you can search 2 times the Marvel. Or with the green puzzleknot gain 6 life and get 6 energy's counters.
What are your thoughts on 2-of Desolation Twin in Marvel? Since it's a 10cmc Eldrazi, it will still trigger Kozilek's Return. This neat trick clears the board and leaves two 10/10 creatures on the field.
Any card to help us when our eldrazis are in hands?
I don't think if there's any. The Eldrazis are dead cards in hand and percentage of hitting it reduces significantly. I think might worth trying is by having Cathartic Reunion, a couple of Traverse the Ulvenwald or Sylvan Scrying and a single Mortuary Mire. That's the only way I could think of to have value by discarding the Eldrazis and a sure hit from Marvel's activation. The deck suffers without Marvel, and the only way was done so far is by counter spells, and it can be backed up by another counter spells (Dispel / Negate / Ceremonious Rejection) but no back up so far for Eldrazi count.
PTKLD so far, even by having the most metagame in both Day 1 and Day 2, only 1 Temur Aetherworks Marvel managed to be in the top 8 in the Pro Tour. 5 of them were less than 10 decks of the same in Day 2. That is not good at all. The deck loses badly to control decks and majority saw it coming. The deck really needs an alternative wincon if things go south. Or perhaps even a main deck Dispel. This could work as I'm expecting control decks will rise.

Nass' Temur Aetherworks deck did 6-3-1 in the 10 rounds of Standard. But he did 6-0-0 in Limited. He probably qualified for Top8 because of that (Yuuya Watanabe's Bant Aetherworks did the same 6-3-1 in Standard, but failed to qualify for Top8 because Limited). Other decks scored better than that in Standard. I will sell today 2 of my 3 Aetherworks Marvel. The price will not stay this high for long. No deck can enter a big tournament with the main strategy being rolling dice and dead draws : Hero if it works, Zero if not... I'm surprised some pros even tried that at this level.
Edit: Speaking of alternate win condition, Yuuya Watanabe's Bant deck had a transformational side deck. He would use the 15 to completely change the deck to an aggressive energy deck. It probably helped him in some matchups, as Aggro performed well vs Ux Control (3 and 4 did the Top8).

Yes, helped by his draft result. The constructed result wasn't so impressive. Here are constructed results of top finishers of Aetherworks's pilot.
No. 4 Matt Nass 6-3-1, lost to Temur Aetherworks, Grixis Control and UR Spells (from top 8).
No. 9 Matteo Moure 7-3-0, lost to BG Delirium, Nass's Aetherworks, Romao's Jeskai Control.
No. 16 Rich Hoaen 6-4-0, lost to RW Tokens, Grixis Control and Mardu Vehicles (from top 8), another one unsure.
No. 17 Yuuya Watanabe 7-2-1, lost to WR Vehicles (from top 8), another one unsure.
Judging from those, Moure's had the better constructed result. I'm still analyzing of what and how to tweak the whole list and sideboarding options. I might main deck Dispel with sideboard transform towards aggro energy deck. Still, looking forward for Matt Nass's stage 2 of quarter finals against either Jeskai Control or UW Flash.
As you can see I didn't run Green, Why? Because the Temur build is very inconsistent and more likely a luck based deck and relies heavily on Aetherworks Marvel poping the Titans. After a lot of playtesting with the Temur build I found my self loosing every time after drawing 2 or 3 eldrazi and discard it on the graveyard with Cathartic Reunion, and by the time I got my Aetherworks Marvel online I only have 5 eldrazi on the deck which is very bad. It's either you pop 1 Big Daddy Ulamog or Big Mama Emrakul or waste your Energy.
As you can see this deck doesn't only relies heavily on being lucky on popping Big Daddy Ulamog or Big Mama Emrakul on Aetherworks Marvel.
Card Break down: Thriving Turtle, Aether Meltdown, Aethertorch Renegade
- helps you build 6 energy until turn 4 and builds up great defense against agressive deck such as RW Vehicle, Mardu Vehicle, RB Madness on Early game.
Elder Deep-Fiend, Distended MindBender:
- Helps you a lot on mid game. Elder Deep fiend is good against aggressive/mid range deck, while Distended Mindbender is good against Mid range/control decks.
- Both of them also triggers Kozilek's return.
Ever After:
- 1 scenario that happened to me: turn 1 Thriving Turtle, turn 2 cathartic reunion discarding an Ulamog and Emrakul, turn 3 Aethertorch renegade, turn 4 Aetherworks Marvel and when I pop it I missed the Eldrazi but hit EverAfter and poof say Hello to my Titans.
- Ever After brings diversity on the deck, yes on the Temur build when you got early Eldrazi on your hand it just screw with the deck leaving you with lesser chance of popping an Eldrazi on Aetherworks Marvel.
- EverAfter Also re-fuel you with energy by revivng the Turtle or Renegade after early game or after feeding them to the Emerge costs. You will find your self with a lot of energy counters.
Desolation Twin:
- This card is very nice! Sometimes much better than Ulamog or Emrakul. Can win you the game easily by after triggering Kozilek's Return on the graveyard and swinging for 20 next turn.
Madcap Experiment:
- This card is a gamble, loosing 5 to 7 life average. But this card definitely acts as additional copy of Aetherworks Marvel and on my experience helps me a lot! Just be reminded that it is a double edged sword. You can change it with Gilt-Nest Crane.
Hijack
- This card is hilarious against Mirror match! Either grab their Aetherworks or their Titan. You be the judge! 1 time my opponent got his Aetherworks Marvel out first and pop it and whiff, on my turn I cast Hijack and saw the face and reaction of my opponent! Grab his Aetherworks and pop it hitting Emrakul, and winning the game with his Aetherworks Marvel.
You can win with Aetherworks Marvel poping a Titan
You can win by Mid range Emerge creatures + Alternate win con with Aethertorch renegade dealing 6 - 12 damage.
game 1: RB Madness - (2-0 win)
game 2: Grixis Control - (2-1 win)
game 3: RW vehicle - (2-1 win)
game 4: Temur Aetherworks (2 - 0 win)

Well, we do have Cathartic to get the Eldrazi's out of our hand. So, once they are in the GY, let's use Dread Defiler to 'throw' them at our opponent's head. They are also 7cc, so they trigger Return. I've been testing two copies and have gone back to 4 Cathartic and 4 Vessel to get some Eldrazis in my GY. Swapped a few Forests for Blooming Marsh and added a Mire. I've won a number of normally unwinnable games by hitting A Dread with enough mana up to Exile a couple Eldrazis. This card will be the key to give this deck an instant win!
I've been playing 4 fevered visions on the sideboard to bring in against control with decent results. IMHO 'though if your meta is full of control this deck is a terrible choice.
Fevered Visions might provide some damage, but not enough against control. I feel like Yuuya Watanabe's is a go to kind of deck. It does not too focuses on Aetherworks Marvel, loses early board sweeper but replaces with a bigger and better ones, Descend upon the Sinful.
Went on Stomping with my Grixis Marvel Emerge deck last week. I drop green and get black instead.
I love what you did with your deck. Removing the Puzzleknot for other energy producers that are more useful in the game, Catathartic Reunion to get rid of dead cards, and Ever After to get them back. This is better than Temur, and removes a lot of randomness to the deck.
I sincerely wish you the best for your deck. Your brew is elegant, and better thought out that what the pro tried to do at Pro Tour. In my opinion, they failed miserably. With more than 21% of all decks playing Aetherworks Marvel, only one deck made it in top 24 (4%), and 8 in the top 69 (12%). I don't remember the last time so many pro players were wrong at the same time. Glad I sold my cards this morning, the price is already falling...

They didn't fail in brewing the deck, they fail in predicting that control would show up in full force.

His deck still tuned to beat aggressive decks, spell queller and tamiyo won't help against aggro. I like the longtusk cub and probably will main deck them to replace servant of the conduit if you expect a lot of control. I would also play Nissa, Vastwood Seer instead of Tamiyo since it can't be quelled. Kozilek return will probably be in the sideboard with harnessed lightning in main instead to interact with spell queller.

You mean Nissa, Vital Force ? Well it is true that majority did not expect that control will shine that great. Less than 10% of control decks since Day 1, and since week 1 of rotation, people were saying that control is dead, lots of aggressive decks.

And it's here to stay (7 of the Standard Top 24 were Control). And Aggro, which was a known enemy, did better (13 of the Standard Top 24 were Aggro). On the clock, Combo (Aetherworks Marvel) is supposed to beat Aggro (and Aggro defeat Control, and Control defeat Combo). That this Combo deck failed to defeat Aggro is quite telling. Either Aggro is amazingly good right now, or this particular Combo deck relies too much on luck even when the combo is assembled. Even Emrakul on turn 4 is not an instant win if you're down to 10 life or less, and facing still more attackers after controlling their turn. Aggro has two more turns to attack and win, and maybe more, as Emrakul herself is probably needed on defense to avoid losing next turn.
I won't argue with you that Ulamog or Emrakul are terrifying on turn 4. They are! And this deck can win games! You guys have tested it out at your store. But the results at the competitive level are there. The deck was hyped by the Pro Tour, and it just didn't performed well. We'll see this week, but I'm pretty we'll see a lot of articles on Starcity Games or Channel Fireball talking about the general failure of this Combo deck, or at least how it performed under expectations.
Not doing the post-mortem on what went right and what went wrong will not help the deck get any better. And blaming the other decks for this one's failure will not help either.
I don't have much suggestions to make, other than what I believed since the beginning (at the beginning of this thread) : remove both Ulamog and Emrakul from the deck, play the Emerge Eldrazis instead, and other energy producing creatures instead of the Puzzleknots to have board presence and food for Emerge. That way, if Aetherworks fails to show up, you're not stuck with dead cards, and still have a reasonable win condition (the deck will not rely on a prayer to draw Marvel, and another prayer to reveal a Titan once you mange to activate it). I brewed a Naya Marvel deck that played only one Aetherworks, but it could be fetched with Thalia's Lancers (with Eldritch Evolution). Even without it, the rest of the deck (Gearhulks, Angels, and smaller creatures that produced energy, served as Evolution sacrifice and still attack or defend) could win by itself without too much difficulties casting the threats.
Won vs RG Energy (2-1) - Close game. He played too safe, expecting I have removal in hand and Aetherworks Marvel was late and missed Eldrazi hit on first activation. Luckily I had 4 energy left, I took another Aetherworks Marvel to gain extra 2 energy and activate again, and hit.

The card I wanted to try now is Glint-Nest Crane along with Vessel of Nascency. The bird draws Aetherworks Marvel and blocks as well but unable to mill Kozilek's Return.

Aether Marvel is a busted card. Wow
Lost vs UW Control (0-2) - Game 1 got hit by 3 Spell Queller 3 turns consecutively. I think it's a bad match up plus my poor sideboarding choices.

Card Break down:
Thriving Turtle, Aether Meltdown, Aethertorch Renegade

On Temur Aetherworks note, I'm thinking of replacing Kozilek's Return with Radiant Flames instead and main deck Dispel. Maybe make a room for Bristling Hydra as well.
