So Sarkhan is for sure my favorite planeswalker (I mean what's more rad than a dude that turns into a dragon???), and Sarkhan The Masterless is one of his coolest cards yet, though I'm not exactly sure what sort of shell to build around him. Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner is a no brainer 3-4 of. She lets you drop 5-drop Sarkhan a turn early, and turns his dragons into cantrips. Sarkhan, Fireblood seems pretty perfect as well, he digs and lets us drop dragons really fast. If we go U/R, 3 drop Sarkhan lets us play Niv-Mizzet, Parun as early as turn four, which is really strong. I'm not really sure what else though....
I think we'd probably want some kind of board wipe. Maybe go Jeskai for Deafening Clarion? Or we can go R/U/G and play Llanowar Elves for extra ramp? Going into an extra color might not be worth it though, so maybe just stay Izzet colors? What do you guys think?

I'm just getting back into Magic after about 5 years out - Sad to see this forum is nowhere near as active as it used to be - no idea where everyone went, I guess discord and reddit or something.
Anyway, this card is also something I wanna build around.
Not yet caught up with all the cards in the format my input in limited at this point.
But a Big Red Walkers deck could be something. We have a curve of walkers Sahelli/Tibalt/Chandra/Jaya/Sarkhan - We have a mini sweeper in Canonade and I'd think splashing black for Widespread brutality as another sweeper.
Splashing black can also allow us to play eldest reborn to get our walkers back and cards like duress for the control matchup.
Lilliana Dreadhorde General Looks broken as all hell, Could probably sneak this in with the use of a few black mana sources and treasure map.
I don't know much about standard (more of a commander player) but I was trying to build with sarkhan. I went Gruul because I feel going llanowar elves, into Domri, anarch of bolas, into Sarkhan is really powerful. as that would let you Domri be a 5/4 dragon on turn 3.
Here is a decklist I kind of threw together. It focuses more on making it impossible to attack into a Sarkhan since you'll probably be dealing 5+ damage with his passive to each creature.
Basic idea of the deck is to get out an Arcane Adaptation on Dragons. Each creature you get will then trigger Spit Flame, Dragon's Hoard, and Sarkhan the Masterless. In addition there are other cool interactions, such as:
Will this deck end up being good? Don't know. But it has a lot of cool interactions and can be very explosive, even though it is kind of removal light/relying on getting synergistic draws.
So many things you can do with Sarkhan, most people I see are looking to use him aggresively in Gruul Shells or Utilizing the Dragon Synergy of this passive to the max like the above decklist which looks amazing btw.
This is my take - A slower R/B Walkers deck that looks to possibly have game against control and aggro.
It users a toolbox with Mastermind's Acquistion to get one of walkers for the situation as well as goodies from the board.
Almost every walker say's Draw a card so they will all generate card advantage against control decks.
We are not using Sarkhan Fireblood's mana ability but loots and has synergy with big Sarkhan so has to be answered - Jaya is probs not needed but I like Jaya.
Dreadhorde Invasion another card that puts a blocker on the board and requires an answer from control
Treasure Map is amazing.
The sideboard looks to bring in extra control answers and tutors for aggro and mid-range issues.
I think grixis dragons is the best place for new Sarkhan due to the overall power level of the cards. Here's my version, doing pretty well on arena right now
I've played a bit with a bunch of Sarkhan decks... Ultimately I feel like Fireblood and the Masterless wants to be in different decks.
Masterless main dragon synergy is it's static ability. That ability is back breaking in some match ups and useless in others... It's the kind of thing you pull out of SB sometimes. His still pretty good in any case, it's just that ability in particular is strong but narrow.
Contrast with the +1 which is really back breaking if you have another PW around. For this reason I lean towards Sarkhan Super-Friends / Control Deck.
I'm planning on trying the new sarkhan in a mardu shell. I dont have a list yet. With Gideon in play u can turn him into an indestructible dragon and then plus 1 to also give sarkhan indestructible. I think he will also play well with sorin giving all your creatures lifelink. I'm split between a midrange deck with other flyers like Phoenix and angels or a more controlling deck with the sweepers available in those colors.

Between those there's plenty of CA and ways to finish the game. Cards that work well with those:
BGU Control
R Aggro
Standard - For Fun
