How good is fungal infection really in control. I understand it in a saproling deck for sure but the only use I see for fungal infection is combat tricking creatures with 2 toughness and offing 1 toughness creatures and leaving a blocker behind. I'd rather just run another essense scatter so I can keep them from playing the creature in the first place. I play grixis Control and am wondering if I should put fungal infection in my deck.
Fungal Infection has been popular in Bo1 Arena due to the amount of Mono Blue and Red all over that format. I wouldn't play it in traditional Standard though.
The card is pretty sweet, but right now I believe moment of craving is much better. I am definitely an advocate for fungal infection though. 1 mana answer to elves, vanguard and a whole slew of other somewhat important one drops is great. It kills that pesky turn 1 stormtamer too!
fungal infection is only being used atm due to Mono-U being such an impossible matchup
You need to be able to reliably stop their T1 creature before they untap. Fungal Infection and Dead Weight are only played for that reason.
If your meta doesn't have the Mono-U deck running around, Moment of Craving is just better vs Sultai and Red. But those matchups are a lil easier in general, so they sacrifice that removal to hedge a lil against blue.
