Seems odd there isn’t a gate deck on here. I’ve been playing a lot of arena so some card choices might seem odd but this deck is extremely fun and powerful! Still looking for a good creature to help vs control other than Ravager Wurm if anyone has suggestions.
Gate decks actually look fun. Wish they put Maze's End was reprinted. I like this deck list a lot, since I rather not pay $40-$60 for a card that isn't Vintage/Legacy staple/useful.
I'm not very familiar with the meta atm, but the above decks look painfully slow, imo. Though, with 7 sweepers at 3CMC and the possibility of recovering through lifegain (Clarion, angel), thesedaiv's second deck looks intriguing.
Big fan of these lists! I've been brewing about something on Arena which I hope to develop into a more competitive build as time goes on. I'm so far just playing best of one's, but for a side board I am considering Knight of Autumn, Negate, and possibly Ixalan's Binding. The two Banefires have won me games on their own, especially against control. Multani fits this deck much better than initially assumed, as you can on the whole bring her back from the grave with relative easy and once given haste she's a great finisher. She also answers drakes.
In the development stage, I am contemplating running a number of Thud in the side. Will it work? No idea. Might it catch someone out when you throw an 8 damage colossus at them only to play a gate, have it return from the grave to the top of the deck ready to be hasted in next turn? Maybe...
So far I'm struggling most with Wildgrowth-Golgari. It's easy for their walkers to out-stretch Gates Ablaze and Vivian counters the majority of the deck single handedly. It's this match that's pushing me towards the binding. Thoughts?
Idk why I forgot about clarion that will definitely swap spots for me with fiery sadly if you’re trying to climb in arena you have to have hydroid or red will eventually get you, luckily it’s the same cost as any other card on there.
What about using March of the Multitudes as a finisher backed up by The Immortal Sun to buff the tokens and draw cards (and shut down opposing PW's) ?
As ramp deck casting a big March isn't a problem and subsequent copies can convoke even more lifelinking tokens into play which will first stabilize the game and then take it over.
I'd also consider a copy or two of Search for Azcanta for this deck for filtering and then card selection.
I've list with Shimmer of Possibility which is pretty good but Azcanta is probably better for this.
Btw, Rhythm of the Wild doesn't fit this deck at all as it isn't a creature-aggro deck.
Trying to get the haste value for a big creature isn't really worth it and you might as well play Maximize Velocity for this purpose though I'd suggest against this either as it isn't really a combo deck.
Rhythm is amazing in this deck. It makes your huge guys uncounterable and have haste. I get when you look at the card you think aggro but I see uncounterable haste huge guys and when dropping lands gets your colossus back every turn with haste that’s a big deal. 2 drops tend to be in a rough spot in gates as the first two turns you tend to take off of playing anything then t3 you hope to have an untapped land come down or growth spiral.
Some great ideas in this thread. I like the Multani... I almost wish we had a way to put stuff in the gy. But I can definitely see it as another recurring threat. The Rythm addition is spicy. I think that would be a great sideboard card to bring in against anything with counterspells or where you're racing. From what I've seen this deck always wants to be sweeping on t3 or t4 against creature decks but against the combo control Wilderness Recl. decks I think we can get a lot out of the uncounterable+haste. Also in case folks haven't thought hard about it, Shimmer of Possibility is legit awesome. This deck needs it's payoffs and runs a lot of lands to sift through to find them. I don't see myself running less than three until I'm seeing real success with other lists.

Agree with all that and again my build is currently for mtga Bo1 but that said it’s also set up to win a lot of game 1’s the way it is. Have played shimmer and it is very good.

Scapeshift has been superstar it’s basically a draw spell and a life gain spell all in one and it’s got great synergy with Multani which has added synergy with guild summit when it dies.
I don't really like the Circuitous Route builds, I think its completely unnecessary when there's better cards you can be playing instead that are much better in a variety of matchups.
Love the versatility of maindeck Knights of Autumn and Depose // Deploy.
The singleton Blink of an Eye is a concession to Planeswalkers as they can be hard to answer due to how slow we can be.
Huatli seems rather odd here though it can gain a lot of life with a big Ram or Colossus though it isn't exactly a winning play a gainst most non-Red decks.
I'd probably even prefer Chandra, Bold Pyromancer over Huatli as a ramp deck finisher (the Ult' ability is really good).
Personally I prefer to rely less on creatures as the finishers of the deck (besides ram which is very efficient and plays defense as well with vigilance) so I'd go with Banefire/Fight with Fire or March of the Multitudes + The Immortal Sun as my finishers.
I was going to ask how people are fending against aggro, but that Jim list seems to main 12 removal and 2 life gain cards so that's a pretty clear answer. Will do some testing with it, but have so far found white weenie and any combination of burn are favored quite heavily. Their average draw is something we need to luck out on and have specific answers for on curve - which can be quite frustrating. Interesting to see no Rhythm of the Wild though? This feels like such a key card in the deck.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I've been playing a version of this online, and am amazed how real this deck is. The version I play online has Niv-Mizzet, Parun instead of Hydroid Krasis. Niv-Mizzet is pretty strong, though can be hard to cast sometimes.

Idk it still doesn’t get around most of their removal in wrath effects but you’re probably correct.

What was your choice of sideboard with his deck?
1.) What's the Jim Davis build?
2.) Isn't that guy who created Garfield the Cat?

More often than not I have found the Circuits to be absolutely useless, have never needed ONCE to cast those.
Blood Sun? Comes into play a full turn earlier and, thanks to the new rulings, turns off ETBT. Effectively turns the Gates into Standard ABUR duals.
Also turns off Plaza of Harmony, which can hurt.
"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
