Couldnt find a dedicated GW thread so I guess I'll have to post this here. After a disappointing FNM finish with mono green, I decided to give GW a try at a local store tourney. Went 4-0-1 in swiss (id Rd5) with an 8-1 game record.
R1 v RDW (2-1):
G1: Soul-Scar + Chainwhirler shrinks my team, Glorybringer over the top for the win
G2: I manage to exile 2 Chainwhirler, 2 Phoenix, 1 Hazoret, and Canopy a Glorybringer. I take the skies to victory
G3: Slower start for him, I put out Brontodon to slow down Chainwhirler, well timed Cast Out halts Crasher, pump team with Shalai a few times and my creatures are too much for him to handle.
R2 v RDW (2-0):
G1: Very close game. He gets me down to 3. I have Shalai + Angel of Sanctions, each with a -1/-1 counter. He draws a land, I draw Rishkar to get in the last 6.
G2: Plays 3 Bomats in the first 2 turns. First one eats a Seal Away. The other 2 never get more than 1 card because I clog up the ground. He plays Chainwhirler, I play Shalai. He thinks he has the answer in Glorybringer but I have the Cast Out for it. He ends up finding another one but Rishkar makes Shalai an x/5 the turn prior. Angel of Sanctions + Lyra on subsequent turns seals the deal
R3 v BW Marionette/Improvise? (2-0)
G1: He plays Chief of the Foundry, Servo Exhibition, Hidden Stockpile, & Marionette Master. I exile 1, 3, & 4 and he's left with 1/1's that are severely overmatched.
G2: More explosive for him. Foundry Inspector, Benalish Marshall, Double Sram's Expertise. But my Settle the Wreckage was not amused. Ride the 5 for 1 to victory.
R4 v BW Knights (2-0)
G1: He plays 2x Knight of Grace, 1 Knight of Malice and Benalia. I play Branchwalker, Khenra, Brontodon. Seal on KoM, Bronto pops Benalia with 2 counters. Knights swing in. Tokens trade with Khenra & Branchwalker. I play Ajani, +2, hit 2 creatures and a cast out and 3 creatures the following turn and he cant keep up.
G2: Fast start for me. T1 Elf, T2 Khenra T3 Shalai, T4 Lyra, T5 Eternalize.
Top 8
UW Control (1-2)
G1: Chip in 1 creature at a time. He Settles once, Approaches once, but I slog through a Seal Away and have answers for his 2x Teferi. 8/8 Lyra ends the game
G2: One of "THOSE" games. I have all the answers when I need them...Cast Out for Teferi, Scavenger for Azcanta. I get him to 5. He plays Lyra. I take it with Angel of Sanctions. He plays Approach and goes back to 12. So I have Angel + a 4/3 JLR. Swing in with both cuz he's tapped out. Back down to 5 he goes. He cycles Farmland, plays Memorial leaving him with 1 card in hand and Settle mana open. I only swing in with Ranger taking him to 1. He draws.......Approach #2.
G3: 9 of the first 11 cards I see are lands
Very happy with the deck. Felt much better than Mono Green
There is actually a G/x/x thread where your deck might fit as well. However, I would leave it up to the people running this thread whether the deck should be here or not.
Would you consider Ixalan's Binding over Cast Out. Or is the cycling and Flash too much to give up?
Can we get this thread moved to "Proven"? not a huge deal but more prestige.
Also how are you all dealing with this new Nexus deck, I find it REAL annoying and am sad I dont have have black lands to use duress.
If we arent splashing colors to rip or counter fogs then we're toast?
This part of the forum looks really inactive these months, did ppl move to another platform like discord or something?
I agree!
No clue, but I subscribe to these threads and get emails about respones, I always like this site although the merging with twitch thing was annoying, as change always is.
has anyone see any good mono green matchups on video from the protour? if so provide link or tell me what round and ill at least try and look for it.

MTGS as a whole has died out compared to what it was 10+ years ago, but part of the current issue is the "stagnant" state of Standard in general (Modern & Commander forums see far more traffic).
That said, Im taking Steel Leaf Stompy to GP Orlando this weekend. Still doing some tweaking but the deck feels alot better with some number of Vine Mare in the main. Having a hell of a time with the sideboard atm.

well where did everyone go? What platform is being used?
On an unrelated note, with U/W/x & Turbo Fog running amok, im dropping the black splash for blue
Was sorcerer's spyglass on Teferi not enough, duress?
I dont run Spyglass in the board. But Teferi isnt the problem specifically. Negate + Spell Pierce feels better vs control shells than Spyglass + Duress
Hey, I'm curious: Why is Greenbelt Rampager considered good for this list? It's a 3 mana 3/4 usually, or else it eats your energy, and it just seems like there are better options. I am asking legitimately here, sell me on this card, since it seems subpar by my rating.

1) gives you something to do with mana turn 1 if you dont see an elf
2) a turn 2 3/4 is good
3) eats chainwhirler
4) can crew vehicles before being returned to hand and then can be played untapped
5) constant source of energy for Harvester lifelink
6) constant source of card draw with Bestiary

Also if you play servant as some due it makes Rampager a 1 mana 3/4, you cant use the servant for mana but -1 for +3 for ghalta might be the difference between casting it or not; 3 mana -5 on ghaltas cost.
I know spoiler season has barely begun and we're not allowed to discuss new cards in this part of the forum yet, but I'm thinking about how to keep the Steel Leaf Stompy deck going strong post rotation.
I think keeping the black splash will be very good, but I'm also thinking swapping the black out for blue and running with 3 Hadana's Climb because I'm thinking about adding Jadelight Rangers and Merfolk Branchwalkers in the deck. Also Negates in the sideboard and Dive Down in the main to replace Blossoming Defense to keep Ghalta alive.
It's going to lose access to some good stuff like Vraska though. Also, Golgari being one of the main guilds in the new set will probably give some good black/green cards (including the shockland) so I'm thinking going black/green may be better?... I guess we'll see once more cards get revealed.
I think this deck is going to lose a lot of it's range from not having access to Heart of Kiran and Skysovereign. I still want to play this deck though. The look on people's faces when you drop a Steel Leaf Champion on turn 2 is awesome Very fun deck to play.
Blue feels like it will be the best complimentary piece once we have access to Breeding Pool. Dive down for spot removal, negate/pierce for settle/nova. For now im going to try straight mono green and replace flying dmg with trample dmg

no access to that card, future will be G/w or G/bk

i was talking long term, not just for the next 3 months. In the meantime, yes, black probably gives us the best sb option in Duress
Oh boy, we can't talk about the specific cards here yet, but the spoilers they showed yesterday. I think Steel Leaf Stompy with a black splash is going to be absolutely brutal post rotation.
Also, I think hexproof creatures are going to be very important, so better get those Carnage Tyrants and Vine Mares ready.
I'm still very worried about losing Blossoming Defense and having to splash blue for Dive Down... but I'm running 4 Blossoming Defense in my stompy deck, so I guess that's why I'd feel weird not having protection spells like that to save Ghalta.
Could the mana base support a turn 2 Steel Leaf Champion in a Sultai setting? Some of the lands would end up being black/blue since Breeding Pool isn't out until next set. But the added flexibility would be sick.

You would have to splash to get the other colors. I don't like that idea though. It's easier just to splash one color.
If your going to splash blue there is Aether Tunnel and Dive Down and those 2 should fill in the gap till the next block.
or you can splash black and get Duress / Assassin's Trophy

So this deck has a higher win than loss ratio... its one of those decks I enjoy playing... I have tweaked the snot out of it with almost everything I can think of... including trying it as a red green fling deck... That being said, it would be awesome if the community could help me improve this deck win ratio

Welcome! Per "Standard Main Forum- What Belongs Here," decklists belong in the subforums. I will move this into the G Stompy thread, which hopefully will give you the feedback you are asking for. Decktags make it easier for people to understand your deck and are super-easy, expected and described here. - hoser2
It's basically Mono Green Stompy with some subpar cards thrown in. One thing I can comment also is that you're running 26 lands, which is WAY too much.
Recently started playing magic again. Bought most of the pieces for this deck for mtgo. I was wondering which pieces are rotating out that I'm going to have to replace.
