This is a deck I started working on this week with a pretty goofy finisher that has caught a lot of people off guard. Adanto Vanguard + Axis of Mortality
How it works is that you use Adanto Vanguard's "pay 4 life ability" repeatedly to lower your life down to 4 or less on opponents end step while you have Axis of Mortality in play. On your up keep you switch life totals with them and either attack, or a direct damage spell. I am currently running a WUG list to access stronger creatures and card draw. Cards like Nissa, Steward of Elements and Rogue Refiner help me scry and draw to hit the combo pieces.
There is another strategy in this deck that uses Dusk // Dawn as a way to wipe the board while using smaller 2 power creatures with explore to keep pressure while continuously cycling through my deck. Dawn also allows me to get any of may 2 power creatures back if the were hit by removal.
This is a very rough version but combo has worked pretty well. since the main combo is to white cards it makes it easy to play with other color variants.
would love to know what you guys think.
This is such a cool combo. How about a W/B version using some black spells that pay life for card card draw, etc. The only drawback I see is Axis of Mortality being a 6 drop. How has playing testing gone?
So far the WUG version has done the best, having creatures that explore allows me you not miss land drops and Nissa let's my scry 2 each turn. I started with a b/w version, but tapping into my own life just became an unneeded mechanic. I can just activate Vanguard as many times as I want when I get the combo. And if I have Just Axis out it can potentially force a reset. Plan B is try to win through creature beats. I may try a control version, but I need to buy fumigates.
I did a mono white version of this deck with Wall of forgotten Pharos as my instant damage i win combo with axis and adanto. It works, but was a bit slow. I like your take, as getting constant land drops really helps. I would side it out and then all 15 cards in into a monument deck to screw their sideboard, it was a blast.
I love it! It could also fit quite well into a tokens strategy. Just stonewall them, not attacking and then zap them to 4, then swing with a few tokens.
This deck for example, has a Marionette Master combo, could be rebuilt to put vanguards main, and squeeze in some Mortals instead. Possibly even a sideboard switchup. It'd be great againsta Ramunap Red deck.
