I finally found a brew that's not terrible in todays meta, it seems. I have done testing against pre-Amonkhet Mardu Ballista and so far I have over 60% winrate. The deck folds to Mardus nut draws, but given a few more turns, this deck can turn the game to it's favor.
The deck plays similar to the old GW tokens deck, but with a few exceptions.
Besides swinging in with tokens powered by anthem effects, the deck has alternative wincons in the new artifact Throne of the God-Pharaoh.
The deck also utilize the new white God: Oketra The True.
We also run mana acceleration in Cryptolith Rite and Harvest Season. The Rite fuels the Throne as well. Digging 5-6 lands with Harvest Season is not uncommon. The card is however lackluster before you have established a board state.
Another alternative win-con is Westvale Abbey
The deck can be explosive in establishing a board state at turn 4, when Sram's Expertise comes online, which follows up with an Oath of Gideon or a Nissa, Voice of Zendikar. If you had a Rite on board from a previous turn, you now have a bunch of more mana to spend. You can basically empty your hand on turn 4.
Once the hand is empty, you can always use the white God as a mana sink.
This list is far from perfectly tuned, yet it has high winrate in testing.
If copy cat gets ban I could see GW tokens making a come back. It was a good deck a few month back. The deck hasn't lost anything but has gained some new tools . I would be surprised if it does well going forward.
You'd have an explosive Token generating list that places +1/+1 counters much faster than a typical GW Tokens list. Then since you plenty of planeswalkers, you can add Heart of Kiran. You can also take advantage of great removal in black lik Fatal Push.
And since you're in white, you'll have access to necessary sideboard cards that regular BG Constrictor doesn't have access to, like Authority of the Consuls.
I would prefer to play a 3 color version but sadly the mana base would be a hot mess. The deck has to many double Green and double White cards, sadly wizards gave us janky manabase this standard.
The constrictor/ballista version would shift the deck's focus into a pure "swing for the win" type of deck: 4-5 creatures with a couple of +1/+1 tokens overwhelming the opponent in combat.
Such a deck would be less focused on generating tokens and lose the alternative win-cons. Ballista would be the mana sink rather than Oketra (and thus replacing her). Rishkar would take Cryptolite Rite's spot in the deck. Constrictor would take the Throne's deck slot.
We would basically lose the interesting win-cons this GW deck allows.
Without Rite, I don't see the manabase allowing for both Constrictor (BG) and Gideon (WW), Sram's Expertise (WW) and Nissa (GG).
I don't think the mana base is as impossible as it seems. Gideon and Nissa are both planeswalkers, so Oath of Nissa covers them pretty well. Not only that, we're playing green and the trio of Servant of the Conduit, Attune with Aether and Aether Hub can handle a lot of the fixing.
I really don't see the issue of trading in interesting win conditions in favor of stronger win conditions. I also don't see how those cards will take away from the token generation. You're still going to want to make tokens with Nissa, Gideon is going to get his normal single ally on his first turn out. The big difference is going to be that when you -2 Nissa, your army is going to grow twice as fast.
This deck is about building the team and growing the team. It builds a presence quickly, grows quickly and then wins the game. It has the option of finishing opponent's quickly or grinding them out before overwhelming them. It's flexible and resilient. I think this is the start of a deck that can be competitive.
I think you guys should really look at running Regal Caracal in this deck as a high-end card. It's 3 bodies, two of which have lifelink, and it stacks with itself incredibly well - 2 of them on the battlefield is 20 points of lifelink power.
The list I posted in the OP has weakness in that it stacks legendary cards and cards that are dead in hand in multiples: Throne, Oketra, Rites. I'm testing another version now. -1 Manglehorn, -1 Oketra, -1 Throne, -1 Harvest Season. +2 Anointed Procession, +2 Dusk.
Anointed Procession feels gimmicky and clunky. On turn 4 I'd rather drop a Gideon or Sram's. If I have both Procession and Sram's in hand, I would probably be greedy and drop the Procession first and Sram's on turn 5, delaying the explosion. That said, I'm testing 2 of them in the deck now.
I did consider Regal Caracal and Angel of Invention. I'm not rejecting them definetly, but compared to Sram's Expertise they are much more mana intesive (5 mana for 3 bodies compared to 1 effective mana for 3 bodies). Since both are anthem creatures, they are good targets for Unlicensed Desintegration and Ballista. They could have a spot in deck focused on swinging with a team.

I would run Anthem Cat or Angel of Invention, but they're both 5 drops. In my Abzan Tokens list, the only 4 cmc spells are Gideon and Sram's Expertise. Everything else can be cast for free with Sram's. As with Stormyorky's Turn 6 "swing with the team" win, I love Sram's into Nissa -2. It also works with Sram into Collective Effort (which can also be escalated with a Sram token to kill a big creature, destroy an enchantment or both).
Hi Guys, noob question of the day... I love this deck and have been trying to come up with more ideas for it since the spoiler released a couple weeks back. Printed out Throne of the God-Pharaoh as a proxy and have been play testing different builds. TBH, my best results came with dropping a few slots from my GB Constrictor list and slamming 2 copies of it in there as an alt wincon with Rishkar. I've gotten lots of different answers with Cryptolith Rite though, which brings me to my question, can I tap tokens or creatures for mana with Rite that have summoning sickness, because if yes all of my playtesting with it is null and void. It just sounded for a second in a post or two up there that you could tap for mana immediately. Thanks.
Ps- forgot my suggestion for the deck lol, I'd use/try 2 of mouth/feed if you use an anthem of sorts, Angel, Cat, Trinketer, Etc. If your emptying your hand by turn 4 as stated above, and opponents yahenni's or rags or the new red BS whatever, oops. Top decking in a format of mardu is no bueno.
can I tap tokens or creatures for mana with Rite that have summoning sickness
No, because Cryptolith Rite gives the creature itself the ability 't: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool' the creature needs to be able to use tap abilities, which they cannot with summoning sickness.
If Rite was worded simply 'Tap an untapped creature you control: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.' then it would be possible, as the summoning sick creature is not using a tap ability (it is being tapped to pay the cost of an ability, which is similar but still distinct, the 'Tap this permanent' symbol t is the key difference).
Perfect. I'll stick with 3 Rishkar,PeemaRenegade and maybe 1 CryptolithRite then if I want to use ThroneoftheGod-Pharaoh to do end step damage. I see crazy potential with that combination of cards. Thanks a lot for the quick reply

Have a list? I'd love to see one. It seems nuts to me that people aren't putting tokens + Nissa + Constrictor together. It's incredibly effective.

Then add those to:
You'd have an explosive Token generating list that places +1/+1 counters much faster than a typical GW Tokens list. Then since you plenty of planeswalkers, you can add Heart of Kiran. You can also take advantage of great removal in black lik Fatal Push.
And since you're in white, you'll have access to necessary sideboard cards that regular BG Constrictor doesn't have access to, like Authority of the Consuls.
Here's where I would start with this deck:
2 Rishkar, Peema Renegade
4 Servant of the Conduit
4 Walking Ballista
4 Winding Constrictor
Planeswalkers 5
2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
3 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
Enchantment 7
4 Oath of Nissa
3 Stasis Snare
2 Heart of Kiran
Sorceries 9
4 Attune with Aether
2 Collective Effort
3 Sram's Expertise
Lands 23
4 Aether Hub
4 Blooming Marsh
4 Canopy Vista
4 Concealed Courtyard
2 Forest
1 Hissing Quagmire
2 Plains
1 Shambling Vents
1 Swamp
This deck is about building the team and growing the team. It builds a presence quickly, grows quickly and then wins the game. It has the option of finishing opponent's quickly or grinding them out before overwhelming them. It's flexible and resilient. I think this is the start of a deck that can be competitive.
Example game vs Mardu :

Ps- forgot my suggestion for the deck lol, I'd use/try 2 of mouth/feed if you use an anthem of sorts, Angel, Cat, Trinketer, Etc. If your emptying your hand by turn 4 as stated above, and opponents yahenni's or rags or the new red BS whatever, oops. Top decking in a format of mardu is no bueno.
