So I have been working on a storm list and it has been very successful in the early stages of the format. It's consistent and uninteractive which are generally the best things to have at the beginning of a new format. This is the list I have so far. Tell me what you think.
Explanation
The game plan is pretty straight forward. Draw cards, get out resevoir, cast a bunch of spells and then win. The one subtlety is that game 1 you often win with Ornithopter. Some decks just cannot deal with it once it has several Stitcher's Graft plus a Cathar's Shield. other times you can use it to make your opponent tap down only to let you combo off. Battle at the Bridge is in the maindeck for 2 reasons 1 is that it gives more interaction with aggro and 2 is that it can often be cast for 1 black for x=5+ which gets you that much closer to 51 life for the combo kill. Out of the sb you either bring in counters and go for the combo kill again or against control bring in Bastion Inventor who can come down on turn 1-2 and bypass opponents counters. Once suited up with equipment he is pretty unstoppable with Gideon being the only real barrier.
Possible Changes
I'm not quite sure about the numbers that optimize play, but right now i have 25 "land" when counting Attune with Aether. I also am not 100% sure about Unbridled Growth. It can be a cantrip in a pinch fixes colors and still triggers Sram, Senior Edificer. The downside is that it is not an artifact. This means it cannot count towards improvise and does not trigger Contraband Kingpin which may be a good solution to aggro, nor Efficient Construction which might be a good alternate win condition to resevoir. It also does not contribute to the sb strategies.
2 Tezzeret the Schemer is my current alternate win condition, it allows a little more interaction out of the sb, and he can ultimate relatively quickly. His minus can also occationally be used to speed up the clock on combat damage kills. Overall though, I'm not super impressed with his ability to take over the game. His plus is really only useful when you have paradoxical outcome so it really comes down to his minus. He might just be better as more battle at the bridge. Pendulum is pretty much a free slot. It is currently there for a little life gain and to be another artifact for artifact synergies, but I don't really think it's worth the slot.
Other Directions Sigarda's Aid can also be used for more explosive plays by allowing you to respond to reservoir triggers with more spells so that each trigger gives life equal to the number of spells cast, reducing the minimum number needed to win to 6 from 8, however Sigarda's Aid itself takes up a slot that might be better served as something else. The other advantage is it makes it easier to guarentee value out of Sram, Senior Edificer as you can cast all of your equpment/aura's without passing priority so that you can't be disrupted in between with removal.
Whir of Invention is another option as it lets you get resevoir at instant speed, however this requires you to play out your artifacts first, so it is not particularly useful without Paradoxical Outcome. The upside is that it lets you resolve resevour at instant speed, and it oppens up possibilities for singleton sb cards.
I thought about writing my own thread, but you have one here and there seem to be 2 others on the deck creation forums. I suspect people may get tired of a bunch of different storm threads. So I hope you don't mind me posting some slightly different ideas. I'm with you on Sram, Paradoxical Outcome, Reservoir, and Cheerios, but I have some alternate choices than some of the green cards like Attune and Unbridled Growth (although I do like that they let you cut lands and increase density).
You absolutely need 4 Sram, Senior Edificers. IMO he's literally the reason to play the deck and raises the win percentage immensely. You don't care that he's legendary or if you draw 2; if they can't deal with him you'll draw too many cards and win. I don't like being dependent on him but playing only 3 copies without counterspells in the maindeck.
The other card I've been extremely impressed with is Baral's Expertise. I tried to make this deck work in the last Standard and was a big advocate for Crush of Tentacles. It seemed like it was often a time walk + board wipe + threat. So you have to understand how high I am on Expertise when I say I like it better than Crush. Expertise gets rid of 3 threats while deploying an Aetherflux Reservoir or Gisela, the Broken Blade without knocking your other Reservoirs back to hand (my biggest problem with Crush). The other big thing to note is that when you aren't bouncing threats it's an advantage generator or storm piece. Sometimes I find myself slowing down with Sram when I draw multiple lands, but you can bounce your own cheerios with Expertise and replay them to draw more cards and cast more spells. Overall in a deck with so much card advantage I think Expertise is a fantastic inclusion.
I also feel that Metallic Rebuke is a fantastic card for almost any match up but in particular will give you a fighting chance in a meta that I expect will include a significant amount of control (thanks Fatal Push, Disallow). It's usually Mana Leak or better in this deck.
Some optional, less sure inclusions from my brainstorming and testing are Sigarda's Aid and Gisela, the Broken Blade. As you mentioned, Aid lets you storm more efficiently with equipment and auras. It also lets you save creatures from toughness or damage based spells with Cathar's Shield. Gisela's inclusion is a nod to the occasional need for alternate game plans and a good card to snipe planeswalkers or defend against aggro. The only thing Gisela ever needed to make her good IMO was to not die to Harnessed Lightning and Grasp of Darkness, which Shield conveniently fixes and also gives her vigilance.
Also a note on what I haven't included: While Ornithopter is great with a lot of the deck, I ultimately cut it for cards that serve a more essential purpose because it doesn't draw a card with Sram and can be targeted with removal. It hurt me though, as the new art is lovely.
Other things: I always liked Contraband Kingpin in previous versions of the deck for his ability to scry into lands, but the mana constraints were too difficult for me in this version. I also really like Tezzeret's Touch with Ornithopter (and it draws a card with Sram!) and Tezzeret the Schemer himself. Whir of Invention was in a previous version of the deck but UUU was really difficult to get. If you do include it throw in one copy of Torrential Gearhulk so late game you can tutor it and flashback Whir for a 0 mana artifact. Reverse Engineer similarly was cut from 4 copies because it took down Metallic Rebuke and paying UU or 1UU mana almost always felt like taking a turn off.
Edit: Accidentally repeated what OP had already said, deleted that part.
I have found that reverse engeneer is actually better than sram and have upped it to 4 copies in the main. Sram often only gets 1 draw without sigarda's aid. Your point about it interfereing with metalic rebuke is spot on though. I run rebuke in the side. I don't think I like gisela in the deck. I understand the reasoning of wanting her, but she seems like she would be clunky, and she gets hit by most removal. She might be okay as a sb card but I think game 1 we should be all in on the combo. If you are playing strait uw i think whir is actually fine. You have to run aether hub and probably glimmer of genius, but that is doable. I like Baral's expertise, but 5 mana is quite a bit. Game 1 it is fine because you can just grind out opponents, but after side I think its a bit too slow.
